Alexa Costa has a life-altering secret…
only she doesn’t know it yet.

CONFINED BY LAW to the kingdom of Alvair until the age of eighteen, Alexa has lived a sheltered existence under the watchful eye of her sword-wielding guardian, Ivy. Her love interest, Caleb Whitman, is exactly the opposite. A merchant sailor and seeker of rare artifacts, Caleb has lived a life of adventur

Amulet of Elusion is more of a skeleton than an actual book. Reading it was.. not fun. This book had an interesting premise which was the only reason I could actually tolerate reading on. Had this been a first draft, I would have been impressed, as it is, it wasn’t.

The only thing working for this book is the concept. T

It's really a shame because this book seemed like something I'd enjoy for genre and type. But sadly, not for me. For multiple reasons.

Yes, I rated my own book. Tacky? Maybe. But I've seen authors with 300+ reviews rate their own books and no one chastises them about it. And, honestly, if any book deserves a five-star rating from the author, it's this one. It took 15 years to write! True story.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed the story very much, though it started slow for me. Once it got going though it was hard for me to put down. I love books that have sword play in them and if it's a woman doing the sword play you can bet I'm in.

The characters are very likable and easy to follow and believe. Just enough romance to keep my girly side interested and enough action to keep my tomboy side hooked.

I would definitely recommend (and have alre

I cannot tell you how in love I am with this story. It had it all, action, adventure, love, suspense. I really hated it when I had to put it down and do things like sleep and work. I truly enjoyed how Katie was able to create a world that was vivid and easily imaginable. And the connection between the main characters, Alexa and Caleb, was equally heartwarming and red hot without being too much. If you like a little bit of everythi

I didn't want to say that I didn't finish this book. Because it doesn't mean that the book was crap. It was good. But it didn't make me want to invest in another two hundred pages (I was over 400 pages in) because frankly, it was just way too long. I've read books that were 500+ pages long with ease. This is almost 700! And I felt it just didn't need to be that long.

I loved the concept. The amulets, the cities, the mag

Alexa is on the verge of turning eighteen. Her whole life up until then has been a series of lessons, from books to self defense, she's been trained. She loves learning, but the over-protectiveness of her guardian, is starting to get to her. Fate intervenes and suddenly she finds herself swept away in secrets and danger. When her past catches up with her, she learns a truth that changes everything, and leaves her future in question.

Amulet of Elusion is great ya fantasy novel. I was totally impressed with how Katie Lynn Johnson went about writing this. It was a fun read with a lot of action and enough romance. The world building was outstanding! I absolutely loved the world from start to finish. The character development was great too. Each character had their own personality that bought the story to life.

This is a story that I normally don’t read but as I started and could not put it down. It was filled with adventure, action, suspense, heartbreak and of course love. Alexa lost her family and was raised by Ivy, who was not family but a friend of the family. She taught her how to protect herself and also taught her what the future holds for her. Powerful people were after Alexa and the amulets because she could access the power it had. When Cal

At first, I was wondering when this book was going to pick up. There was so much description in the details and I was trying to wrap my mind around the time frame and the setting. However, after getting about one-third through the book, I really started to enjoy it. The development of the characters really helped me to relate and connect with them. I enjoyed how the relationship between Alexa and Caleb slowly developed, it seemed very realistic. I also appreciated the back story and the little d ...more

Two stars for "it was ok" (read: not bad, just not my cup of tea). I think I would have enjoyed it more if I were a little younger and more inclined toward romance. I enjoy YA fiction usually, but I think this one was a little too sweet for me. I would have liked to see more tension in the love story because it just felt a little too easy for the young lovers and thus, I was not really invested in their relationship. The idea of the amulets was pretty interesting, but it felt like it took a back ...more

My Review of Amulet of Elusion:

The description is a tad vague, so I’ll elaborate: Sheltered girl living with her guardian gets closer to a cute boy who works as a rare artifacts merchant sailor, finds out that the local myths about amulets of power and magic are real, and that she not only possesses the ability to work the amulets, but that her lineage is one of great power. Of course, bad

I think it was pretty interesting for my family- me reading this book. I spent the entire time speaking to it and myself. It was a pretty extensive monologue that ranged from 'oh my goshes' to frustrated exclamations. This novel had an amazing premise and it also starts off really strong, with a great array of characters. I was honestly pretty excited about reading this novel. However, I feel that the momentum did not last long. After the beginni

Katie Lynn Johnson’s Amulet Of Elusion is a coming of age tale set against the backdrop of war between two rival cities. Alexa is almost eighteen—the age of adulthood in Alvair—and is excited to finally get the chance to explore her oncoming freedom. This freedom, of course, means that she’ll be able to spend more time with Caleb, a merchant and a sailor whom she’s fallen in love with from the rival town of San Lucero.

At first, the story starts out with Alexa under the ever watchful eye of her

Alexa is confined by law and her guardian to live within the confines of the kingdom of Alvair until she turns eighteen. But she is more than ready to explore the world outside the kingdom. Ivy is the overprotective guardian who has done everything to prepare Alexa for her very uncertain future, but Alexa doesn't know it. She doesn't see the point in all the studies and the sword fighting. She just want's to be a young woman, hang with her friend and fall in love. Especially with the very handso ...more

I’m going to be honest here, I didn’t know what to expect from this book. I started reading it without any expectation and I can only say I’m ashamed for that. Amulet of Elusion is a book that while it started a tiny bit slow for me, it picked up his pace really fast after the first 4/5 chapters and managed to have me neglecting certain things I had to do * cough* study *cough*. I was amazed by how fast this book grew in me, I really am. It impressed me by its charact

Amulet of Elusion was a fun fantasy read that I ended up really getting into towards the end. The story was a bit slow for me in the beginning, with a lot of details about the days leading up to Alexa turning 18 and figuring out who she really is. The pace picked up a lot just after halfway, and despite the slow start I devoured the last quarter of the story in one sitting. Katie Lynn Johnson did a great job of creating a fantasy world that was easy to fall into without being overly complicated. ...more

If you like YA fantasy as much as I do, chances are, you'll love Amulet of Elusion. With good pacing, lots of action, lots of romance and even a historical feel - it truly has something for everyone.
The idea of the amulets in general was enchanting and I loved discovering more about the potential and the abilities of each unique gem. Having specific people, the Interpreters, be able to further unlock the power really added to the plot

I was on a train for five hours on Tuesday and five hours today so I read a lot. The prologue was excellent, very well done and full of menace. The two arsonists arguing over killing children, quite chilling. I sped through the prologue and stopped at the first line of chapter one 'It was a beautiful day' For a moment, I wondered what had happened, it was as though someone had jabbed an ice cube down my

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. I must say that it started out quite slow and I wasn't sure if I would like it but at around the 30% mark it became interesting. At the 40% mark it started to become exciting and half way through the book, I could not put it down. The characters were well defined and the author made you fall in love and/or hate each and every one of them. The plot was definitely original and not like anything I have read before.

‘Amulet of Elusion’ is the first book in The Lost Amulets series. It features Alexa Costa, a teenage girl with a secret past, which once uncovered will change her future forever. Before Alexa discovered the truth, she spent time with her best friend, trained with her guardian, and pined over a sailor named Caleb. Once Alexa learns not all myths are only myths, she’s determined to fight against those who would like to take her power for their own ruthless ends. The author’s skill in character and ...more

A darn shame too, the cover is really beautiful. :/

On another note: I actually misread it as "Amulet of Llusion" because of the colours. So I thought it was "illusion" without the i, my bad. Nice play on words though, but the colours shouldn't blend. and this is coming from someone hailed with 20/20 vision...

I love this book. If you are looking for a story that gives you adventure, fantasy, love, friendship and a lot should read this book.

I loved the characters and their relationships. Alexa, Caleb, Ivy, Novella and Eduardo are well written. I loved how any of them are not perfect and you can identify yourself with them.

Can't wait to read how this story goes!! :)

I wasn't sure what I was going to make of this book when I was first asked to read it by the author. I found myself enjoying it. Katie Lynn Johnson's writing is easy to read. The reason why I've given it three stars is because it took a while to get into. Once I had got through several chapters the plot really started to pick up. It's well worth checking out though.
