Being too powerful can become a weakness...

Scotlind Rumor is finally returning to Lux, except she’s not going home. She’s now a prisoner to the most lethal and powerful Advenians—the Luxian Royals. Scotlind knows she’ll never be free. They are keeping her for a reason—she’s a puppet in a dangerous game. One that’s only just starting to unfold. As Scotlind is forced to play along in order to survive, she prays that the person controlling her strings isn’t the Prince that haunts her nightmares.

Sie Noren must face the consequences of his actions. He betrayed the only girl he ever loved, and now she belongs to his enemy—the Fire Prince—and he only has himself to blame. But when Sie is forced to see Scotlind again after months apart, things won’t end well for anyone, and he plays right into the hands of fate.

Mallory Benjamin is the author of the new-adult fantasy romance series, Lake of Sapphire and Ocean of Silver. She graduated from Penn State with her bachelors in nursing and has worked as a nurse for eight years before becoming a full time author and mama. Wtf - I need book 3 right now!!!

I love it when I stumble across a gem like this.

Torture, blood, horrors, warmth, innocence, backstabbing, friendships, and even if you think you know, it turns out you don't know shit.

Absolutely recommend!!

I can't tell you how much I love it when the sequel is better than the first book in the series. Ocean of Silver did NOT disappoint! I was on the edge of my seat throughout this entire book with all of the tension and dread and anxiety in Scotlinds story.
And what Scotlind was going through?? It tore my soul apart. I cried several times.

The characters were so well written! I feel like I have made a personal connection with them and I miss being with them in this world!

If I had anything to complain about (which I don't because it makes sense) is that the spice was not where I thought it would be after ending Lake of Sapphire. But with the storyline, having the spice I expected would not have fit at all so I am not disappointed in the slightest.

Can't wait for book 3! ;)

This is becoming a super good series!

Scotlind gets shipped back to her childhood home of Lux, where she gets wrapped up with the Fire Prince and starts unraveling all of her mysteries as well as some others. All while trying to avoid the wrath and politics of the Lux King.

Her separation from Sie was a heartbreaking moment, but guy #2 is looking pretty good to me. Even better, in fact. I have no doubts they will all join forces to fight the Lux King, and probably fight over Scottie’s hand as well.

Its difficult to not give away some of the big secrets in this one. I recommend it for anyone looking for that powerful FMC who doesn’t know her own worth, and the prince who isn’t what everyone is led to believe but will do anything for the female he loves. Now that she has the bonding started with two different males, who will she choose?

*Potential Spoiler Alerts Ahead!*

I was HOOKED! I’ve been waiting for the second book’s release for months, and I finished this book in 4 days (while being a full time student and mother of a 1 year old). It was that good.

I spent half the book wanting Scotlind to go back to Tennebris and be with Sie, and the other half happy that she was in Lux with Tezya (new character alert!!).

And the end of Chapter 19 I literally gasped aloud and had to hold my face a la Home Alone.

I’m already eagerly awaiting Book 3 to see how this ends, and hopefully get a “happy” ending that everybody deserves!

This is the second book in the series and it's even better than the first. The storyline kept me on the edge of my seat the entire read. I couldn't put the book down.

The author has such a creative mindset it really captured my attention (especially for someone who isn't a fantasy reader).

I highly recommend this series, but be sure to start with Lake of Sapphire!!

I cannot wait until book 3 comes out!

I LOVE this book. Such a great series. While I hated when another book series pulled the rug out on the love interest, it works very well in this book. To be honest, I don't even want them to go back for Sie. But, I'm still desperate for the 3rd book.

Spoiler alert.

I was frustrated by this book. There was so much potential, but truthfully, it fell short of what it could have been. Here are my thoughts simplified:

What I liked/what Mallory Benjamin did well:

1. The bait and switch. Wow. I was surprised when Sarah J. Maas wrote an entire book with a romantic lead who turns out to not be the protagonist's real love interest, but then Mallory Benjamin did it even better. Almost the entire first book I was all for Sie, even rationalizing his weak moments and inadequacies. At the very end of the book, I found myself being disappointed in his character, but just thinking the author didn't create a great hero. Then I started to read 'Ocean of Silver' and it all made sense. It isn't Sie at all. Mallory is brilliant.

2. Creative, the story has great bones.

What I did not like/what could have been better:

1. Way too gritty. All throughout book one, I was happy that we never got too many gruesome details about torture etc. I really appreciated that while we knew torture happened at some points, there was never any need for detail. Unfortunately, this all changes in book two. It was too much. All of the torture in this book made reading it feel like torture. There was one scene in particular, about 2/3 of the way into the book that was horrific. In addition to that, there was non-stop shackles, weeks of torture, dirt, filth, starvation etc., all throughout the book. It never stopped.

2. You never get to come up for air. Readers need relief in this book, the characters need relief in this book. Please, please, give us all a little respite. If the protagonist isn't in a hopeless situation, you see that one is coming in the next page. It's non stop. Give us a little comic relief, maybe a few chapters where they are safe and not being tortured or shackeld or starved or in immenent danger. At end of the book, you think that they finally escape and can regroup. This lasts for approximately two pages and we're back to a dungeon of torture. Please no more torture. I can't take it.

3. Weak characters. Two of the main characters (Sie and the Fire Prince) are supposed to be two of the most elite and lethal fighters in their world, and yet they are almost always rendered completely powerless. They have these incredible powers and somehow, they never are actually able to do anything to save or protect Scotlind or themselves. Pretty much the only thing they are good at is withstanding all of the torture. Please, please, give them a few wins. Let them show off and be strong. Then there is Scotlind, who intitially has no powers (even though you know she does and they're going to be incredible), but by the end of book 2, they still haven't materialized much at all. You keep waiting for a scene where she is pushed and does something crazy, but nothing like that happens. Pretty much the only time she uses her powers is when the evil Lux King forces her to use them to amplify his power (oh and also multple times when she dries her self off after a bath by meticulously removing every water droplet instead of using a towel). Almost all of the book she is wearing shackles or a necklace made of a metal that voids her powers. For the love of everything, please unshackle this girl and let her do something!

The writing was alright. It's understandable since the author is not working on this full time. Despite this the plot was much better constructed this time around compared to the last book. For some reason I felt like the interactions and conversations with Tezya was far better constructed to really give them the chemistry that Sie didn't get. Maybe that was the intention.

I honestly don't know how I feel about the switcheroo. Because suddenly in the second book Sie was made to look like more of a villain than he already was? Like Scottie was suddenly mad at him and suddenly had revelations about him? Girl come on.

Tez is definitely a lot more communicative and open about his intentions and feeling than Sie ever was but he withheld information just as much as Sie did. As much as I hate to say this Tez is a better man in ways Sie wasn't. But character arc can develop right? I hope to see that and some closure. It felt a bit rushed, the ending and the communication bit between Sie and Scottie.

As everybody else I can just hope that in the next book, we get a lot more of Vallie, Sie and the rest of the Tennebresians. As much as I loved seeing Scottie vecone note mature and learn about the world around her and being happy with Tez. I definitely need a happy ending for Sie and the Tennebresians.

I'll always be team Sie I guess. Something about boys with dark hair and being misunderstood with 3 lettered names does it for me.

That being said, can't wait for the next book and I definitely hope for much more improvement in terms of the plot construction and interactions between characters just like the author has already managed to do since book 1:)

Lots of F bombs to follow cause I’m so passionate about this.

The fact that this series has consumed most of my thoughts for the last 4 days, say something. I am absolutely fucking feral for the next book.

I LOVED the first book, but I LOVED this one even more!! I need to know what happens next. I was stressed throughout this whole read, in a good way. Like on the edge of my fucking seat, stressed.

Spice? There’s none, and I didn’t even miss it to be honest because the story was that fucking good… But the tension, 😮‍💨 and the emotional fucking rollercoaster.

I don’t know how I’m going to function after this honestly, I’m worried 😅 I love these characters, I absolutely hate others and the fact that this writing is so on point to me actually wanting to jump into the book myself and fight for some of these people.

I could go on and on forever but, this is a hidden gem and I don’t know why more people aren’t talking about this series.

Boy can this author write a terrible past for this poor girl. You can't help but get all into your feelings with what Scotlind has gone through. You would think by now she would have had a bit of luck and love. This author knows how to keep readers reading. I feel for Scotlind, but on the other hand she is just so needy. It's like can't the author give her a bit of a back bone? Where are all the fighting skills she learned? There are times in the book that I just want to rip the pages out thinking about Kole, the ass hole. He's like a friggin cockroach. You just can't seem to kill the shit. You would think the author would have killed him off by now, but nooooo. I have so many questions 😭😭😭. I guess i'll just have to finish the series to figure out what Scotlind is going to do and how their going to get rid of the kings.

I reeeaaally wanted to love these books! But Sei got done dirty and it put a terrible taste in my mouth about it.

I can get on board with a love triangle, and can even understand jumping on the Tez bandwagon. He seems like a much better fit for her.
It was just glossed over that Sei is literally a 20 year old boy King with zero allies and 1 friend. I just don’t feel like his character was flushed out and the drama around him could have been written better. Maybe that’s what it comes down to, the writing around that was not good.

One more book. I have a feeling I’m going to start it because I want to complete the series, but never finish the book.

cliff hanger….

This author did such an amazing job with the story I wasn’t keeping track of where I was and then it ended. I can’t wait for the next book to see where the story leads. I was unprepared for the twists in this one. I think I like this one better than book one. I’m going to be sad to see this series end when the time comes. I’ve become so invested in the characters now.

4.5 stars easily. Loved it even more than the first book. So far, several of the big twists (at least twists for the main character) felt predictable. Still good plot points, but predictable. I did NOT however see one of the big twists towards the end. This book had me silently screaming so much, and I’m so excited for book three!! Would recommend for anyone who likes fantasy romance with more spicy tension than actual spice✨

Couldn't put down

I plowed through the first book, and this one was the same!

After so much world development in the first book, this one did a great job showing us the flip side of the Lucian's.

Love, love, love Vezya. I hope the 3rd book gives us a lot more of a deep dive into Scotland, Sie, Peter, and Vezya (and Vezya's crew), and their character/relationship development.

Dying for info on a 3rd book release!

Emotional Trauma!!!

This story captivated me from beginning to end. I went from pissed off, to crying, to hopefully, and happy, just to be thrown another emotion. I have never gasped, cried or thrown my kindle so much for a single book before! This book was amazing!! I can’t even say how much I recommend reading it. I am in love with the world and characters on the pages. I can’t wait to go through emotional trauma again with the next book.

It took me longer to get into this book the same way that I was into the first one. The writing was definitely not as good, but I liked the story. The first half of the book was a lot of conversation and build up, but the last half did not disappoint. The cliff hanger makes me want to read the third as soon as it comes out!

I just finished Book 2 and it was absolutely amazing and did not disappoint!

It was even more thrilling than Book 1, and I didn't think that was possible. I adore everything about this story...the characters (Team Tez!), the world-building, the twists and turns – it's all perfection! Now, I can't wait for Book 3... so excited!

This book surpassed the first one. I can't wait to read "River of Lavender"!
Some parts of the plot were expected, but some plot twists weren't. It was a wild ride! Filled with angst, slow burn, magic and new informations about the worldbuilding.
And please don't read, in you have problems with torture scenes ;)

I am so upset that the third book isn’t coming out until April. This series has me completely hooked! I wasn’t sure of it at first, but it keeps getting better and better. The plot is unique, and the characters are believable with understandable motivations. Depending on what happens in the next book, this may turn into a 5 star series!

If you read Lake Of Sapphire and enjoyed it, what are you waiting for?!
If you read Lake Of Sapphire and didn't love it, read this one anyways!
This is my favorite book in the series. Character development, and the introduction of new characters playing a large part in it.
Plus the slow burn in book is *magical*
