Unleashed: Mind Over Matter

Rate this book
A group of special teenagers, each with an incredible power. They live together and learn how to use their abilities, protected from those who wish to harm them. Now, for one short week they are let out into the world, with strict instructions that they must not use their powers. But good intentions are easy ...following them through is a different matter. Gideon and Luke are spending some quality family time, playing at being normal teenagers for once. They have no real reason to use their telekinetic powers in the small seaside town, and there are enough bodyguards around to keep them safe, right? Wrong. Someone is stalking them. A man with the cool, calm air of a brutal killer and Gideon and Luke are in his sights.

Much better than the first Unleashed book, this combines strong characterisation with a well-paced, satisfying plot. The climatic scenes are gripping and centre around clever and unexpected uses of the protagonists' paranormal powers. As with Unleashed 1:A Life and Death Job the characters are infectiously likable and the obligatory bodyguard murder scene genuinely shocking without pushing this into mature YA territory.

Pacey, well characterised, and extremely enjoyable. The second book in the Unleashed series follows twins Luke and Gideon on a rare holiday to visit Luke's adoptive mother when they're caught up in the lies and secrets of those around them. Compelling new characters, a mysterious warning from Lisa, and a nicely building sense of dread and doom.

Like the first Unleashed book, I missed all the characters being together, but I really enjoyed that there was a darker side to this book. The details about Gideon and Luke were really interesting and I enjoyed the focus on Luke’s feelings in particular. I’m glad that . I am enjoying the new characters (like Lydia) being introduced in this series! I'm excited to see how Luke's character is developed more, especially with .
