I loved this book. I received it and thumbed through to get a feel for it and ended up reading instead of skimming through it... The directions are so easy to understand and the list of things you need to get started was perfect!! She includes tips and most common mistakes and I just love it. I also love the fact this book is for quilters of any level of experience or none at all, which it ME. I also love the fact the directions are for sewing machine quilting or hand quilting which is what I want to do. She doesn't simply tell you what tools you need but how to use them and the better ones to but and where you can buy them.... I love this book...

While holing up during the early part of the pandemic, I decided to forego hand-wringing and learn something new: quilting. I had been a garment sewer for most of my life, but never attempted a quilt. A quilting friend recommended this book as a primer, and I'm so glad she did. It's wonderful for new quilters, and gave me a head start on doing things the right way instead of learning the hard way. Granted, there are newer techniques (aren't there always?) that have occured since its publication, but it gives a new quilter some confidence and skills to go forth and just do it.

After enjoying looking at quilts at Pumpkin Show, I read this book to find out about how to make a quilt.

I had questions-

Why do you use a template the exact size of the quilt piece when you hand quilt, but use a template that includes the 1/4 inch seam allowance when you machine quilt?

Is there more I should be noticing when looking at quilts?

What is the purpose of a rotary cutter, how do you use it, and what about all those other little plastic pieces quilters use?

This book answered all my questions, including the unasked one: Would I like to quilt?

The answer is no- it is too exact and makes me feel like I can't breathe to think of doing it!

If you are brand new to the quilting world, this is an extremely basic "so you want to try your hand at quilting" text book. Helps you learn the language of quilting and gives great tips for planning a quilt, choosing the fabric and putting it all together. A handy reference to have.....

I've done a little basic quilting work before, but I decided to check this book out before embarking on larger projects. I found it to be extremely helpful, with easy to understand directions and useful diagrams. I will definitely be using it when I embark on more quilting!
