These are fun to read once in a while. Although I can always tell when details aren't correct, which does annoy me. Research and factual correctness is important.

The more I read the Bathroom Reader books, the less satisfied I become with them. There is very little verification of the stories that are presented and I've been finding bits and pieces of so-called "facts" that I know are incorrect. I still enjoy reading them, but I would never quote anything from them unless I verified it from a more reliable source.

It's a pretty average Uncle John's. Packed to the brim with fun trivia from just about anywhere and everywhere. Good to read on the toilet, or anywhere, really.

Another Bathroom Reader, really no better or worse than the previous editions. I've been reading them in order for years now. The current year is 2024 but this book was published in 2005. I read these the way God and Nature intended, on the toilet. There is always a BR next to my toilet at home and I don't flip through it randomly, I read it front to back with a bookmark. I enjoy how this book is a product of its time; I learned about a new junk mail term called SPAM and a couple of the stories to this edition were submitted via "e-mail" which is short for "electronic mail." My 14-year-old asked me about Woodstock yesterday and I just happened to read about it in this book, so I was able to give him way too much info. Time to start the 19th (2006) edition.

Another great book from the Bathroom Readers' Institute!
Among the many pages of this fine book:

The Little Rascals: The birth of the Little Rascals & the dark fates of some of the actors in the years following.

Earth's Greatest Hits: A list of some known giant meteor strikes on our planet.

A Tale of a Whale: A true story of a whale attacking a whaling ship & how hearing the story of it inspires a young man to write what would become a world famous novel.

Forgotten History: The Shays' Rebellion

Also, more of BRI's standard topics such as Nudes & Prudes, Word Origins & Strange Lawsuits!

The usual collection of fun facts, did you knows and anecdotes from Uncle John. I really like this series and its always amazing that they are able to come up with new material every year. Each "article" runs from one to four pages and it is easy to become engrossed as one reads these tidbits.

If you love interesting and funny trivia presented in short and engaging little chapters, these are the books for you. Plus you'll always win at Trivial Pursuit.

The entire Uncle John series is addicting and has single-handedly lead to many incidents of me "holding up the line" to the bathroom.
