Intrigued from the beginning. Engrossed all the way through. Engaging characters, feel like I know them as you brought them to life so well. Was like a film playing in my head. If number 2 was out now would buy tomorrow as can't wait to find out what happens next.

Hidden Magic is intended for children, so it does feel like everything is a bit too idealistic and perfect at time, especially the sections with Grace. The woodland world sections almost feel like they are intended for older folk (they might even be a bit too violent for younger readers, considering there's a scene where one of the talking animals gets ripped apart by Nomeds-demons), especially when the Halfses all read like they are in their twenties (and when they turn human, they're all being

I got this book from Netgalley. The story line is good, but there could have been more background done on Liberty and it's magical creatures. The characters are good, but again some more background especially on the Berthold and other magical creatures would have been nice. The ending was kind of abrupt, I know it is obviously the first book in a series that will not be able to be read as a stand-alone and maybe will learn more background in future books. I'm going to start with this statement: This book took me WAY too long to finish. Honestly, about 2 months. It was only 180 pages in epub format. Yes, I did read other books in between but honestly, The Hereos of Olympus took me three days, for three books. And those books are like 500 pages a piece. Why did this book take me so long? I think it's time for a list.
First, let me tell you what I didn't particularly like:

Hidden Magic is a rather gory and violent book. There are also some parts of the book that are weird. I don’t get the entire idea of human-like creatures turning into animals. The book is well written but the author could have provided more detail on Liberty, which is the setting of this story.

Nope. Nope. Nope. I'm sorry, but I really hope I didn't order this for the library. First of all, Grace is 8 which means kids older than that probably won't pick up this book. However, the scenes with the nomeds are just too gory for most children 8 and under. Not only that, but Grace acts like a five year old. Second of all, the writing is terrible. Who puts descriptive lists of the characters in the middle of a narrative? Literally, a list. So and so is blond with tanned skin and green eyes. S
