Dalton has spent the past year in prison, serving a sentence for burning down a toy store in a fit of anger after discovering his brother playing with a doll. During this time, and throughout his whole life, Dalton has struggled with guilt, responsibility, and his very worth. He needs guidance and compassion - two things he’s never experienced. He has no idea how his life is about to change when he meets his parole officer Hutch.
Hutch has always assumed that his fated mate would be a sweetheart to take his mind off of his work with the city’s convicts. He never imagined that he’d meet his beloved in one of his parolees, and is shocked when the gorgeous but troubled man enters his office. But Fate’s pairing and timing are always perfect, and Hutch soon understands just how much Dalton needs him - how much they need each other.
*Unlike the first 4 books in the series, the main characters in this book do not engage in age play, although it is a theme in the story. This book contains sweetness, healing, and steam, and a very happy HEA.
I live in rural Ohio with my husband and two sons who drive me nuts, but I love them with all my heart. I enjoy reading and writing romance of all types, but gay romance is my forte and favorite! Twice the sexy men? Yes, please! My books tend to be low angst because it hurts my heart, but they do contain lots of heartfelt moments, steamy scenes and a healthy dose of humor. Thank you to everyone for checking out my page and I hope you enjoy my books. Happy reading!
Jayda Marx is an expert at insta love!! I wanted more ageplay, but this is perfect and I’ll take whatever Jayda writes anyway. I’ve missed this series a lot and I really, really enjoyed this. There’s no bdsm and no ageplay between the MCs so please consider reading this sweet romance :)
Anyway, this was a really fast, easy and sweet read. It was marketed as insta, but more like insta-attraction bcs of the fated mates. They actually take their time and didn’t rush things so I think most of people will enjoy this. They also communicate really well and had not only special but mature bond which is such a surprise bcs you won’t find a lot of novella like this ;) Short, and definitely worth it!
Also, holy shit ??!! this 72 pages book manage to make me SOB??!! When Dalton plays with his brother Andy and got emotional, I cried so hard 😭😭😭 WHY WAS THAT SO EMOTIONAL HELPP 😭😭😭😭😭
“I couldn’t be more proud of who you are, and who I know you will become. I love you with all of my heart, Dalton.”
⭐️ 5/5 – A redemption arc that’ll gut you then kiss your forehead. 🌶 2/5 – Sweet pain, gentle hands, and hot lovin' that lingers.
"Absolution" by Jayda Marx is the kind of book that’ll have you sniffling one second, clenching your thighs the next, and then smiling like an idiot by the end. It’s the only one in the Love Bites series that doesn’t feature Daddy/little dynamics or age play—but it still aches with that caregiver/younger partner tension, and holy hell, it delivers. 🤌🏻✨️
Dalton, my poor misunderstood baby, had no one growing up. No love, no guidance, no kindness. Just trauma and guilt sinking into his bones like rot. He burned down a toy store after seeing his brother with a doll—not because he’s cruel, but because his past taught him to fear softness. This man is layered in shame, guilt, and self-loathing, and reading his pain cracked me wide open. 💔😭
But then enters Hutch—a fated mate parole officer. YES. The man thought he’d end up with some sweet, soft boy to spoil, but fate said nah bitch, here’s a broken soul with sad eyes and trust issues. And Hutch stepped the fuck up. He’s not some cold, stoic alpha—he’s firm, gentle, and playful in a way that makes Dalton feel safe. Like really safe. The kind of love that teaches you life isn’t always cruel. 🥹💖
And damn, the sexual tension? The flirty banter and cheeky innuendos had me giggling and kicking my feet like crazy. It balances out the heavy trauma and redemption arc beautifully. You’re healing… but you’re also blushing the whole damn time. 😍💘
And fuck, that line—he needs guidance and compassion – two things he’s never experienced—ripped me in half. Because Hutch gives it to him, slow and all-consuming. The first soft touches that make Dalton freeze—but stay. Fuck. My heart? Gone. 💥😫
With a brief trigger warning for child abuse, this book dives into the shadows but never leaves you there. It’s: ✨ Hurt/Comfort HEAVEN ✨ A slow melt of walls ✨ Protective Daddy energy without needing to be spelled out ✨ That delicious “I’m not good enough for you” angst ✨ Sweet pain, healing, and forever love
The series might be over, but damn if I’m not going back to binge every single one of Jayda’s books again. Because this one? This one wrecked me. In the best fucking way. ❤️🔥
I love you, Jayda. Thank you so much for writing and please keep on writing. I need your books to make me feel that everything is gonna be alright in this fucked up world. 🩷🫂
- Quotes:
“Today starts your new beginning, and I’ll be here with you every step of the way. Your past can shape you, but it doesn’t define you. I know you have a good heart, Dalton. I’m going to help you believe that, too. You can trust me. I’ll guide you and help you, but never hurt you. You have my word.” - But I thought of Andrew’s boyfriend Tage, whom I’d met from behind bars. He was gay, but there was nothing sissy about him. He was bold and strong, standing up for Andrew by standing up to me. He put me in my place and made demands, yet was caring and kind towards my brother. So, could a person be both?
And what of Hutch? Was the embrace just an act of kindness? I wouldn't know; I'd never been around kind men. Well, except for Andrew, but I'd never let him hug me. Partly because I was trying to be tough, and partly because I didn't deserve it. - Feeling bold and even a little naughty, I wrote down a name which I hoped sent a flirty message to Hutch. I slapped the sticker on my chest, and held my breath as he read: Just the Tip.
Hutch swallowed thickly, and his eyes were full of fire when they met mine. His voice was husky when he said, “Nice name. But you gotta be careful; just the tip will get you addicted.” He winked and I melted into a puddle. The man was too damn hot to handle. - He pointed out a wooden bin filled with axes of different shapes and sizes.
“Test them out,” he suggested, and his lips curled into a wicked smile when he added, “I bet the wood feels good in your hand.” - “Ah, so you like a long, thick shaft? I’m glad to hear it.” Fuck. My shaft was about to pop out of my pants if he kept that shit up. Which of course he did. “Want to watch me play with my wood?” My jaw dropped open and I nodded slowly. -

Well, this was cute and sweet, definitely the low angst read we’ve come to expect from Jayda Marx. Dalton really did deserve a second chance. Hutch seemed like a good match for him. He was nurturing and accepting, even when he least expected to find his mate in a parolee. I also really enjoyed the reconciliation between Dalton and Andy. It was long past due and well deserved.
I have major beef with Hutch outing Andy’s age play lifestyle to Dalton. He had no business telling Dalton those details of Andy’s life, especially when Hutch wasn’t into it himself. So it’s not like he was telling Dalton to explain why he wanted. There really was no point and that should have been left up to Andy or Tage to divulge.
Another quick read that worked as a palette cleanser between high angst/darker books.

2.5 I recently reread the ‘Arrested Hearts’ series. They are all consistently good and I think Mike is one of the best characters the author has written. He is hilarious! This final book of the ‘Love Bites’ series has not been as consistent with the quality of characters, plot lines, or depth of writing. The series started out strong with my favorite paranormals, vampires, lovely civilized ones. They and the sweet boys they love have been enjoyable to read about. This book perhaps ran out of steam? The insta love was too insta. Dalton has just been released from prison and doesn’t balk or react to a physical relationship with a man. That seemed a bit odd. That the man is his parole officer was uncomfortable for me. I am all for kicking over the traces and bending/breaking the rules for love, but Dalton seemed lost and vulnerable and again, Hutch was his parole officer. I know that he and Dalton were fated mates and needed to be together, so it was okay for this story. My eyebrows went up, though, that Hutch disclosed Andy and Tage’s age play relationship. This was not Hutch’s business to ‘out’ a couple. Andy and Dalton are brothers and it should have been something that Andy told Dalton, when he was ready. So, the consistency of writing was just not in this one, for me. But, the previous book to this got five stars and I have enjoyed the series. Looking forward to this author’s next book.

During this time, and throughout his whole life, Dalton has struggled with guilt, responsibility, and his very worth. He needs guidance and compassion - two things he’s never experienced. This was a story about healing past hurts and finding the one person who was made for you. I loved that Hutch was able to heal everything between the two brothers as part of confronting the past. There was no age play in this story but it was still a Daddy/boy relationship. Lots of emotions and feelings in this story. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MM story with mature content.
I enjoyed this book, as did all the others in the series. I have read several books by the author. I like your writing style and despite being low or zero anguish books, some have a certain action, suspense and comedy.
This book followed the same style as the previous ones. The stories revolve around vampires and their predestined companions and also the Papa/Little dynamic, which was not the case here, but was mentioned in the story, since one of the Littles in the series is the brother of one of the main characters. Dalton.
Dalton, appears in book 2.5 or 3, that's kind of confusing, Playful Bite. He sets Ian's toy store on fire and is arrested. He is a deep character, with childhood traumas and a difficult life, full of pain, insecurity, loneliness, misconceptions and lack of love. I wish the author had given a little more in this book to address Dalton, he deserved it. But I understand that the book follows the same pace and structure as the others. Quick read.
Hutch, it was a sweetheart. I wanted more of him caring and loving Dalton. It was nice to see their brief love story.
Absolution was such a wonderful ending to the Love Bites series. I loved the fact that Dalton, brother gone bad, was the choice of finishing this series. I loved how Dalton and Hutch came together from the very start because Hutch is his parole officer after he’s spent time in jail for his crime. Their story was quick but just as beautiful as the first 4 books. You must read this final story to get the perfect ending to this storyline. I love Jayda Marx and all of the books I’ve read so far!!!
This last installment in the Love Bites series finishes up with Andy's brother, Dalton, as he's released from prison. His parole officer, Hutch, is amazed at finding out that his newest parolee is also his fated mate. There's no age play in this book, and it moves at a faster pace than the other ones, but it does bring the story arc full circle and to a satisfactory close. I would have liked to see a little more ... something, to add a bit more depth but it was okay. Not my favorite of the series but I'm glad that I finished them all.
I’ll be honest, the series was hard for me to get into initially. I struggled to get through the first book and then decided to not read the series. Then I saw this story was released and the summary was so intriguing! I couldn’t stop reading and it encouraged me to go give the other books a try. I love Jayda Marx’s works and I’m so glad I read this book!
I thought that I might not enjoy this quite as much without the age play, I couldn't have been more wrong. This was a beautiful story of redemption that had me tearing up at times but left me with a huge smile on my face. While I wish this series could continue this story rounded things up perfectly for me. I highly recommend this series and of course this final book.
This was s fantastic way to wrap up this series. I thought I would miss the age play but the way Jayda Marx represented it in the book was perfect. Dalton's childhood was rough and although his mistreatment of his younger brother Andy wasn't right, we do get to understand his reasoning. I liked Hutch's character a lot and how he helps his parolees. I liked how Dalton was able to reconnect with Andy and form friendships with the other vampires and their mates.
Awe, I love how Dalton got redeemed. He and Andy deserved to get a second chance to be brothers and I’m glad Dalton got the chance to apologize and move forward with everyone.
Hutch is so good for Dalton - he provides the guidance and structure Dalton needs to live his best life. Also the ax throwing scene was fun and sounds so interesting to try.
Okay I knew it would be good because I love this series and I’m a big fan of Jayda Marx’s work. What I wasn’t expecting was how emotional I would get with Dalton. I literally was crying at one point. The only bad thing is saying goodbye to a series I deeply loved.
When I first read about Andy's childhood and realized Dalton wad a victim of it too I had to ask if he could have a book and I guess I wasn't the only one. Dalton needed redemption and he got it and a mate. Jayda did an amazing job on this series and I am sad it's over but I just read the best ending ever.
I enjoyed Dalton and Hutch’s book. Dalton has had a troubling history and we witnessed some of his worst moments in earlier books. He experienced a quick, but thoughtful redemption arc including apologizing for his actions, and it was lovely seeing that he got his well deserved HEA with Hutch
A very worthy finale to the series. I really enjoyed these five books, they're not dark and gritty, they are insta-love, fluffy yumminess. Normally, that is not my cup of tea, but there is just something about these stories that warmed my heart. I would read them again and will seek out more of this author's work.
I loved this 5th book in the Love Bites series. I had wondered what happened to Dalton and was happy that he got his own HEA with the sexy older vampire Hutch. This book does highlight the trials and repercussions of being in jail and trying to cope when you get out. Wonderful read 4 1/2
This was a sweet ending to the series. I liked how the book showcased that no one is beyond redemption especially when they focus on improving themselves and have love and support.
The Love Bites Series is one of my favorite. It’s sappy and sad and sensitive. It makes me laugh and even shed a tear or two. Or three. I love the characters, their lives and their lives. And I’ll miss them.
I'm sad to see this is the final book in the series. I have really enjoyed them all as quick reads. I really loved how Dalton was redeemed here. I'm sure there are more vampires in that coven that need a story.
I loved this last book,,,,,the author did a wonderful job writing this cute series about this type of age play and all we’re consensual adults but in the end it was about not being afraid of change
Dalton and Hutch's book is the perfect end to the series. I love Dalton's story and how much he changed. I love how Hutch supported and guided him. If you read the rest of the series, you should definitely read this one now!
