William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863) began as a journalist and produced his first critique in 1837, and his first novel in 1841. Born in India, he moved to England at the age of six. This is an interesting study into the obscure, little-known life and work of a writer whose works have become classics of English literature.

Born into a Jewish family in London, England, he was educated privately in England and Germany. From 1896 to 1901 he was known as an actor, after which he devoted his time to writing antedating the letters of famous persons.
