Can one bet change everything?

Kalli Perkins doesn’t think so. She’s a nineteen-year-old college student, sometimes mother to her little twin brothers when theirs is indisposed, sex-addict (she’d never admit this) and live-for-the-moment go-getter.

At such a short age she’s witnessed the ugly that this world hides—hides in girls like her.

So what does one kiss with her close

I received a free eARC copy of this book in exchange for a review.

So what the hell. This is not my normal reading fare. But...

I met the author some time back on GoodReads and saw a blog post where she was looking for some feedback on a project she wasn't sure about. The early chapters of "Being Kalli" were posted on her website. Curious as the premise seemed...interesting...I checked it out. I only read a little, but found the story and character interesting. I didn't finish it as I really don't

This book was so different from other books that I have read so far. And this book is my first book by Rebecca Berto. I am so glad I got this book by author to review . It was fun reading this fast paced book which i have always liked. Fast, no unnecessary drama and characters and story so addictive .

First of all, The cover is awesome. I loved it :D Second- The characters so well developed that you will fell in love with them.
The plot is great. There are secrets which Kalli have but

Oh sweet Jesus, Nate you sexy thing I love you, "he works his jaw and it's so damn distracting I can't tell which part of my body he's staring at, until he takes my gaze. Then I know. Me, just me. "well if you want to have sex with me just say the word." Don't worry Kalli if Nate said that to me I'd be all over him like a fat kid on cake (winks). He tries to be a gentlemen he really does but with sparks flying between him and Kalli it's really hard, "as I'm about to ask why he's ignoring me, he ...more

But I tried! And that counts for something right?

Kalli was a bit much for me.
The story and things taking place were not fun for me.
It's not my cup of tea but kudos to anyone who likes it.

Book provided by author in exchange for an honest review.

From reading the book's description, I had an inkling about this story, and even though the unfortunate reality is that children are abused, I was still uncomfortable reading about what Kalli endured; but I managed to finish the book, so there's that. Kalli was a difficult character to like; you might feel sympathetic towards her because of her past, but overall I just wasn't drawn to her. Nate on the other hand is the one you feel empathy

Kalli suffers from horrifying traumatic experiences from her childhood. In an effort to cover up her dysfunctional emotions, she specializes in sexual acts with one condition: it has to take place in public and never alone with a man in a room with closed doors and windows.

She makes a bet with a childhood friend involving a blow job and gets sucked in deeper than she anticipated. Unable to deal with her fear, she determines to ruin herself further, which obviously leads to more conflict.

Can I just say HOLY WOWZER!!!!!!!!!!!! Rebecca you never cease to amaze me with your writing. I swear when ever I read your books I know I need some tissues and I need some me time because I get emotional and start yelling at my Kindle like a loony person and yes folks I did just that. This story is so amazing and so emotional that I was not sure whether to laugh, cry, or scream in some parts.

Kalli is our main character and she has a shit life. I mean she is raising her twin brothers because her

I never mean to be harsh, but seriously.. what fuckery did I just read? My reading pet peeve? First person POV's. There are few authors who can hook me with this writing style, while others fall short of intriguing. Being Kalli by Rebecca Berto looks like it would be a sexy read, and it sounds like it will be emotional and gripping. All I saw was a slut's excuse for doing what she did. I'm no prude by any means, but I also don't agree with deliberately doing something to hurt another's feelings.

1. How much can a 19 year old go through just to feel? and 2. How can an author put a reader through such a myriad of emotions and expect us to come out unscathed on the other side? I cried, giggled, wanted to strangle at least 2 of the characters (Kalli and Nate) on more than 1 occasion and in the end I fell in love with who they were together and how song they were. Kalli's mum has never been a mum to her, leaving her at age 10 with one of her boyfriends who thought Kalli was 'cute'. Then ...more

You know that feeling you get when you read a book that just resonates with you and you then spend two weeks attempting to write a review because all you feel you can do is just obscenely ramble about your adoration for it?

Well, Being Kalli is one of those books.

I always adore Rebecca Berto’s writing style as it has a brilliant mix of both prose and factual statements which makes reading it almost like experiencing

I got this book for free on Amazon. For a free book, it’s not a bad one, but for some reason I couldn’t fully get into this story even though some scenes are truly heartbreaking.

Kalli is an interesting character with enough of a fucked up life to make the story interesting. I love flawed characters, the broken ones, but for them to win me over, I need to understand them fully and feel for them. I didn’t here.

Wow Rebecca, what have you written girl! This was dark, deep and depressing in places, but the hope that shone through really made this book worthwhile. I remained dry eyed whilst reading it, but I'm not sure if that was more shock than anything, yet now, thinking back over the story I'm all watery eyed.

Kalli isn't just an abused child, she's a messed up abused child trying to play parent not only to her young stepbrothers but also play the role of parent to her drug addict mother. For too long

I have some mixed emotions about this book and they aren't all that great. I was given the chance to read this book for an honest review and that's what I am going to give.

This review will contain spoilers!

I had some problems from the start. You know sexual abuse is a part of this story from the beginning with the way some things are described and from the way Kalli talks about some situations. This is just my personal preference but when sexual abuse plays some what of an important role in the

**** I give this book four stars ****. Kalli is a nineteen year old girl who enjoys few things. Partying, her twin brothers, playing her violin, her best friends Scout and Nate, and sex. But Kalli doesn't have sex privately. She leaves it out there for the world to see, and enjoys it. Hooking up in the middle of packed rooms or outside in the open is nothing new for Kalli but when she takes it to another level with good friend Nate it gets messy. With her issues with her Mum at home and her ...more

Well after going through my bookshelf and determining I have way too many unread books I decided to start at the top of my list of authors and this was the first one. I had no idea what I was getting sucked into. I did read the synopsis and thought to myself that this is gonna be another book where the girl is a slut and then suddenly realizes she loves her best friend. Well, it kinda is but it delved deeper than that. Kalli has a lot of emotional baggage that stems from her childhood. Her ...more

I don’t know where to start with this book. I Loved it from start to finish. Having read another Rebecca Berto book i was excited and expected a good read, but this book blew that expectation out of the water. I loved the characters and storyline. I liked the new take on the hot love interest being shy and sweet, rather than the usual bad boy changing his ways. I also loved Kalli- with her background i was expecting timid and shy but she had a big (if not slightly bitchy!) personality and she ...more

The way this story went back in time was the highlight of this story and I felt those parts were described so well I was transported into that poor child's nightmares. I have never wanted to help a character more, as I did Kalli, this young girl luckily had her dear friends love, who I absolutely loved. Every time her mother was in a scene I instantly felt angry. The responsibilities she has because of an absent mother. I wanted to experience more of the happy Kalli. Nate was a gorgeous ...more

This book had me going through a rollercoaster of emotions, I cried, laughed, gasped and swooned! It was refreshing to have the Alpha male NOT be a bad boy!

I really enjoyed the 2 main characters development! their interactions with each other and the bond they had with their friends.

Kalli is feisty bordering on bitchy! with a traumatic past, that she deals with the only way she knows how! She is brave yet confined by her fear!

Nate is gentle, warm, patient and shy! He is courageous with his

I have mixed emotions after reading Being Kalli. At some points I didn't want to keep reading because it was so messed up and sometimes the way Rebecca writes, it feels as though we'll never get the character's inside jokes, that we'll always be on the outside looking in. But there are other times in the book where I understood Kalli so much, not from what happened to her to make her so fearing of males, but the relationship she has with Nate. That's what I love about Rebecca's books- you always ...more

Wow that was a rollercoaster of a ride, the story of Kali and her messed up childhood, at least the truth came out about how she acted, thank God for good friends.

I needed a palette cleanser from some of my own projects, and read this book in a day. In a lot of ways, it was just what I needed. I get burned out on Alpha males very quickly, so Nate was a good character to read about. Kalli, less so. There were a lot of elements to her character and psychology that I liked, but a lot more that just felt... tacked on.

It's very rare that I read books that I don't like because if I read the blurb and it doesn't interest me then I move along. I don't go out of my way to give bad reviews and bash authors because I can't imagine ever writing a full length novel so I won't hate on someone who tries. With that being said though, I still didn't like this novel and I am kicking myself and my OCD tendencies because it took me one full week to read a book that is 257 pages. I have read 500 page novels in a day.

This was one of the strongest and one of the most beautiful books I’ve read. I was instantly drawn into this book, it is definitely worth reading and you want wont to put it down. I loved the story line and how much of an impact it can make on the reader.

Kalli is such a wonderful girl. She has such a huge heart and is one of the strongest people I have ever had the pleasure of reading about. She has such a broken past that keeps her from being the wonderful girl that is deep within her. My heart

This book is definitely NOT a light hearted Romance. There are a lot of deep issues dealt with in this book. There is a love story, but the main focus of this book is overcoming your past and moving on to a better future. I really liked Kalli, the main character, faults and all. I really felt like the author did a great job of getting us to connect with all the characters and to become invested in their story. I was drawn in and had a hard time
