I suppose that I'll start off with the blurb.
Per Amazon.com:
"A collection of short-stories: Amy was oblivious to the fires of desire that burned within her until she put on a mask; Cecily couldn't finish writing the Country-Western song she was working on until she acted out her lust for the drummer in her band; The cool but unassuming bass-man kept the jazz combo together by playing the sexual hang-ups of the musicians like an instrument; A young wife discovers her seductive powers and the loser in love learns from the outrageous aphorisms of an infamous historical expert on sex and love."
Maybe, I should start by saying that the blurb should have keyed me in to how mediocre this story was going to be.
But, even with that, I dove in as it was part of my assigned reads for The Review Board.
It's pretty hard for me to put into words how let down I was by this read. Especially, after having read the author's mission statement.
At first, I was going to write my review on each individual story, but then opted against it as that would drag out this review unnecessarily.
So, in order to save time and give a more substantial overall review I'm just going to express my thoughts on the work as a whole.
This book was littered with mishaps that ultimately ruined my reading experience. Following, I'll jot down (in bullets) the things that predominantly needed work.
° My biggest pet peeve was the fact that in 95% of the stories the characters had no names. The innumerable amount of "He's & She's", as well as "Hers & His" had my head spinning.
° I was annoyed at the fact that the nameless characters were referred to by their physical appearance. Like "The Italian Girl" and "The Irish Girl".
° Lots of the short stories had ridiculous premises. Like the one called "Taste of a Woman" was actually about breast milk. And "Asian Girl" was about a woman telling her lover that he needed an Asian woman. There were just some truly ridiculous notions.
° The aspect of passion and sensuality was nonexistent in this collection of short stories. The so called "erotic" part of these stories were bland at best.
°Apparently this author has a thing for women with big breasts and small hips, because time and time again he kept referring to women with that body type as "the perfect woman".
° Holy hell, did the syntax need work. There were a enormous amount of run on sentence, misused punctuation, misused and misspelled words. Too many sentences started with conjunctions, and many times sentences were cut off or incomplete.
° I was NOT a fan of the colored background of the pages. It's a book, not a magazine. There is no need for colored pages.
I believe that with a title such as the one it has, that this book should have been a splendid and superior example of erotica, yet it didn't even have the umph of a cheesy porn flick.
I scored each short story individually as I read them, and then at the end of the book I did a little math to come with the final score.
So, survey say...

On TRB site, I do a full play by play on how I ranked each story, but to save time and space, I will just do an overall assessment of how I feel about The Taste of a Woman and as it relates to his overall philosophy about erotica, which was stated on his own Amazon page (and is as follows):
Overall thoughts:
1. This author extended certain moments that were unimportant and sped up other moments in the stories that were crucial to their successes.
2. Most of the ideas were remixes of journal entries, a few renditions of erotic movies and situations, and leftover prose, which were not effectively portrayed in a way to keep the panties moist or the dreams vivid.
3. There were improper words, run-on sentences, incomplete sentences, and sprinkles of misspelled words. This author would benefit from utilizing someone who can provide further editing of this work–both syntax wise and material wise.
4. The author’s breast and hip fetish permeates its way to the majority of Taste of a Woman, along with his obsession with what he deems as the “perfect” woman. Nary a female character was spared from the blueprint–small hips, tiny waist and big breasts. For readers that don’t fit the author’s model of perfection or whose preference isn’t in alignment with the author, he could easily offend in areas (even if it is not his intent). For the most part, if it doesn’t add conflict or depth to the stories, these demonstrations of perfection are overkill. I think the author has to take into account how much he may limit his overall audience by incorporating so much of his personal preferences.
Verdict: 2 out of 5 Stars
There are not enough standouts in this collection for me to recommend as a whole–it doesn’t run equivalent to his own philosophy. This is indeed a shame because I agree with the majority of what this author has to say about what good erotica should represent.
“The idea is to take intelligence, great writing (insofar as I can muster), and the quirkiness of human behavior and combine all that with a strong erotic base. Then you’ve got a Madsong Book.”
“I want to raise the bar for romance writing and inspire readers to convert their companions into lovers.”
“The genre suffers at times from eroticism without credible representations of human behavior. A story MUST hold water as a first objective. Thereafter, one’s explorations into the quirky mysteries of human intimacy can lead to discovery, to wisdom and to a smart balance of intelligence and emotions.”

This is an awesome collection of stories. If you love words and love authors that really know how to use them, you'll get a lot out of this book. Yes, the sex scenes are hot but the stories are genuine and the emotions are raw. Well, worth the read!
