Does intolerance of people’s differences go beyond our planet? What of jealousy and the quest for power? Is it thicker than blood? Schism by Michael Phillip Cash is a fascinating and intense dark fantasy/Sci-fi filled with everything that makes for excellent, magnetic reading! Prejudice, love, greed, trust, the lust for power, deceit, cruelty and bloodshed, it’s all here in the first book of what looks to be an amazing journey to another planet somewhere in the heavens.

Schism opens with Prince V’Sair and his navigator Emmicus going over lessons. Like most teenagers, Prince V’Sair is not interested in what his teacher is trying to teach him. All he cares about is the Fireblade and trying to harness its power. His parents are different races and Prince V’Sair is a blend of them.

But there is unrest on the planet Darracia. The warrior-class, the Darracians, live amongst the clouds and are the upper-class. The Quyroos, meanwhile, are the labor-force and live in the

Although this may not be the usual genre that I would select to read, I found this to be a great read! The story is action-packed! It is a tad bit violent at moments but most science fiction with battles are. What I liked was that this was more than just a battle between good and evil! This story is an engaging one about a kingdom on another planet. The King marries a woman who is not in the same race. She is not Darracia and is Planta. Those who can't accept this, can't accept change and are se ...more

The Battle for DarraciaI definitely like how this author writes. I finished this book in a little over 2 hours. It is about a mythical world where there are three types of life forms. There are those who live up in the clouds who essentially rule, there are those who live in the tree tops and then there are the outcasts who live on the ground. But times are changing in the land and the King has married a different type of being and they have a child. The King has a brother--hum------Yes, this is ...more

I will start off with the fact that I did enjoy this book. Now this author has published quite a few "horror" based novels and this is the first time he has written and published a "fantasy" genre book and I have to say he did a really good job with this book. The characters were enjoyable and the plot line was really good. Though it was your typical heroic type storyline the author has a good writing style so you don't become bored as your reading through the book. There weren't really any

I have been a fan of Mr. Cash, having read BROOD X, STILLWELL, THE HANGING TREE, and now SCHISM. I'm now working on the second book of THE BATTLE FOR DARRACIA, COLLISION. I don't normally care for sci fi stories, but Mr. Cash writes with such passion and imagination in his stories that I have become a fan of his books.

SCHISM takes place on a fictional planet with fictional characters. I had a bit of trouble with the chracters' names. But that is what sci fi brings you. A different world wh

Science Fiction has long been a convenient way to thinly disguise social commentary in a way that allows them, sci-fi writers, to "get away with it." Sometimes it is subtle (the very quick, first interracial kiss on TV between Kirk and Uhura) or clobbers you over the head (3 hours of Avatar anyone? I get it, destroying the environment is bad). Either way it serves to get a message out that would otherwise be flat out ignored by many or in some cases denied or protested.

The planet Darracia has two classes of people with tension getting higher between the two groups and potential fighting just around the corner. The king, a Darracian, has married below his class to a Planta. Prince V’sair is a mixed breed and is always looked down on because of his size and skin color. But he wants to prove that he is a warrior and wants to go on the quest for a Fireblade, one that only works for a person with a warrior’s heart.

At the same time Staf Nuen, the kings brother, has

“Schism: The Battle For Darracia” by Michael Phillip Cash isn't in my usual reading genre. While I used to read a lot of science fiction and fantasy, I just don't read that much of it any more. But since Cash sent me some of his books to review, I thought I'd work it in, and I'm glad that I did. It was a quick fun read that I did enjoy.

It's a pretty simple story that takes place on the planet Darracia, and involves a power struggle between the king, his brother and their sons. The story plays ou

Difficult times are upon the royal family that rule Darracia. For years they have been separated into 3 lifestyles…ones that live in the clouds, the trees, and on the forest floor. Something evil is stirring that will change everything and at the helm of that change is V’sairs Uncle and cousin. Through all of this V’sair is struggling with where he is supposed to fit in life. Not full Darracian he feels like an outside and how are you eventually supposed to rule if they wont accept you?

Cash knows how to tell a story. I am a fan of his so I read this book. I am not normally a Sci Fi fan but this book wraps a great palace intrigue and coup story in a cloak of sci fi fantasy and it works. My son picked it up first. Read it one night. Told me I had to move it to the front of my stack of books. So I did. Boy am I glad I did.

Michael Philip Cash never disappoints.

Michael Phillip Cash's series The Battle for Darracia is a wonderful work of science fiction. It takes you to a new and exciting world of aliens with problems that are much like our own. In his first book of the series, Schism, we are introduced to the full cast of the people of Darracia. Although the characters are otherworldly, they are very relatable and one can understand the plight of all the different people involved in the story.

This book is well worth the 5 star rating that I am giving it because the cover art, the authors writing style and word building skills are second to none, and the combination of all of these things means that it is an amazing book that I will definitely read again as well as buy a copy of for my kindle.

Reading “Schism: The Battle For Darracia” is like watching a great 3-D science fiction movie through text. With Michael Phillip Cash’s remarkable skill at words, the characters seem to come to life and leap onto each page as the chapters awesomely unfold. The action of the warriors is superb as their fight for survival is tested. Brother against brother, fighting for control of the throne, and to see who will be heir. Through the fireblade will V’sair or Pacuto come out on top as the blood from ...more

I've been reading a lot of Cash lately. So, I decided I should read someone else and started Go Set a Watchtower. And then last night, unable to sleep, I opened Schism. And closed it this morning. Now I'm going to say that some things about it reminded me of other fantasy. In my mind's eye, the Darracians began to look a good deal like the characters in Avatar. OK, great fantasies both. But maybe you won't see that at all. Maybe you'll think that some things about this book remind you of Stephen ...more

This is the first in the series for The Battle of Darracia.

In the first book, on Darracia, there is a uprising brewing. You will be introduced to Prince V'sair. He's a young man struggling with his identity.

In this book the author does a great job catching your interest right away and then in his easy to read style, you will be able to stay hooked from the beginning to the end.

I highly recommend this book for readers who enjoy Sci fi fantasy books. If you enjoy books that are along the line of

Overview: The planet Darracia is preparing for a massive upheaval. It’s started when the current king, Drakko, married a Plantan woman Reminda. Now their son, V’sair, is set to be the next king of Darracia. Along with Drakko’s and Reminda’s plans for the next stage of Darracian life, V’sair’s birthright is a problem for some of the more traditional Darracians. Problem enough for a revolution to occur. Will V’sair learn to stand on his own, wi

The planet Darracia has a growing social unrest as the divide between the upper and lower classes are growing. We watch Prince V’sair branch out from his education and grow as an individual and as a leader. Battles with political motives, between family members, and internal struggles of the main characters made this a well-rounded tale that held my interest from beginning to end.

I read this series out of order and read the second book first. Although the second did well as a standalone, going b
