Barbara Kramer began writing biographies for children and young adults after following the advice of another author who said, “Write what you like to read.” She remembered how much she enjoyed biographies when she was a kid, especially stories about trailblazers such as David Crockett, Daniel Boone, and Elizabeth Blackwell. She decided that’s what she wanted to write. Her subjects have included historical figures and people in the news. She and her husband live in Iowa with their cat, Katie. They have two grown children and two granddaughters.

I read this book because it helped me to learn more vocabulary in English (as I know my English isn't good enough) so this book is worth it for the beginner to learn English like me.

I know his name but I never know his story or his life before, so I recommend this book to know more about him. He is the one who inspires us that we must be nice people for the other, spread peace and love to the World and teach us how to reach our hopes. I love his personal after I read this book but probably I need to read his book ”long walk to freedom” (that he wrote when he was in prison) to know more about his journey in prison.

We need more people like him who love peace and teach how to forgiveness each other. This book is very recommended for all genres💕

Nelson Mandela has always been someone I looked up to for insight and perseverance. So, for black history month, I wanted my son to learn about him and what he fought for. We are starting to learn about timelines and this book has one that tells about Nelson Mandela's life. My son said it was sad that Nelson had to be in prison for 27 years for wanting equal rights and peace. I agree.

I am always impressed with these National Geographic Kids picture book biographies. Each has interesting easy to follow text, lovely photographs, vocabulary builders, maps, a time-line, and a quiz about the covered material. This edition gives a glance into the life of Nobel Prize Winner and inspirational leader Nelson Mandela and his life before, during and after imprisonment.
