- This book represents Africa on my list “Seven Continents of Books 2022” -
An enjoyable read with lots of great information. I went to Mauritius as a kid for about a week, as a stopover my family made between South Africa and Australia. It has fascinated me ever since, and it was fun to learn more about this little, not-well-known island and its remarkably multicultural society.
This book (and, I’m guessing, others in the Culture
Smart! series) is like reading the informational chapters at the front of a nice travel guidebook, but without all of the hotel and restaurant listings. The writing style can feel a bit dry at times, a little bit like reading an encyclopedia article, but on the other hand, the information itself is really interesting. I learned a lot about Mauritius and it also makes a nice reference book.
