The Six Value Medals: The Essential Tool for Success in the 21st Century

Rate this book
Analysis and judgment are no longer enough to make important corporate choices; instead, key decisions must now take values into consideration. Conflicts in the business world often arise because of a clash of values, and it is therefore essential that companies, managers, and employees all have a full understanding of the values at play. This pioneering study provides a basis for values assessment and explains how values come into all areas of business thinking, behavior, and decision-making, whether human values, organizational values, cultural values, or perceptual values. A scoring system that rates different values as strong, sound, weak, or remote helps to prioritize topics and simplifies the process of making executive decisions that count.

I've been teaching some kids de Bono's structured thinking tools (Six Thinking Hats/CoRT) which often require the clear articulation of benefits or drawbacks of a proposed idea.

It soon became apparent how deficient we are in specifically stating benefits. Ask a kid why bicycling is good and they can't think of anything but that it's fun to ride and maybe healthy for you.

With a bit of practise we can do better than that, and in the book Six Value Medals Edward de Bono provides a framework to enable this.

In his usual succinct and pithy style, he has delivered a book in which every sentence has value and meaning. I do not agree with reviewer who complains about repetition - I can only suppose that she is quite young and easily bored.

Some people say that the modern world is lacking in values, in which case it behoves us all to concentrate on finding some.

I recommend Six Value Medals to anyone who wants to feel good about themselves by seeing more of the good in others.

Eh this book sucks. Primarily because it’s extremely surface level, there’s hardly any research in the book, this book reads as something the publisher pushed to make money. A lot of the examples are extremely basic, did I learn much from this book? Nope! Absolute waste of time.

Good guide book, descriptions of the six values medals made simple. Examples or illustrations of scenarios given makes the concept easier to associate in real working life. I can just imagine myself mind-map drawing the 6 values on paper... maybe will really get down to this at the office on the next working day. Which value do I prefer? Depends on situation. Which value do I find most possible to lose grasp? Brass medal.

Another good addition to the de Bono thinking series. The value scan concept for decision making and taking action. When things don't work out as expected, the value scan concept can help determine why.

The author has done his best to simplify an extremely complex topic - VALUES.

I have read articles on the topic, but none have been able to show meaning and application so clearly, particularly in a business context.

A must read for businessmen, leaders, HR folks, managers at all levels.

2.5 stars. Some good concepts but just feels like an attempt at prolonging his glory days of lateral thinking. Surface level and too much randomly invented nomenclature.

I really liked his book "the six thinking hats" and really engaged with the concept.

Although I could get what he was talking about in this book and I think the idea is really good I felt that it just went on and on and a lot of it was padding. I really didn't think that it was worth a full book.

I got bored to be honest, maybe it is because I am reading a lot of great and encouraging business books, but this one left me stupefied.

was able to read 3/4 book quiet easily but now unable to go on. was very curious to read something by De Bone as his books are seen everywhere. probably his other books on thinking must be good as he is without doubt very skillful, competent writer. the way he was able to present whole value system was impressive as he simplify matter very easily.

I like Edward Debono's pearl. His books and ideas can do what formal education couldn't do. Once again in this book he has offered a framework to look out for and consider values in our decision making process.

Another of Edward De bono's thinking tools. This writer is a tool maker. This read provides concepts that are useful for use with children and in the work plcae.

A new type od thinking for me...
Everything has its own values. It is more objective to think of a thing by looking into every value involved.

Good morsels in here but overall a rehash of Mr DeBono's other Six Stuffs (hats, Shoes). Think I've gone past my Use By Date for his panoply of creative transformation guides.
