Make-believe, pretending to be someone you are not, is a dangerous thing. And not only for the people who are being "conned", but also for the person doing the pretending. As this story shows, the truth will eventually come out. 'It's Only Make Believe' is a short story that packs quite a punch. Dryer goes from just wanting an acting job, to desperate measures so he can "pretend to be gay", to finding out what has been buried under years of self-denial. A truth he hasn’t been ready to accept – u

When we are little, we are encouraged to pretend, often “it’s only make believe” is the explanation we hear about movies and stories when we are still too young to process. But, when you are an adult, that make-believe has consequences: your entire life can be turned upside down because of one moment of fancy.

This book ended up being better than I expected it to after the first few pages. At first, Dyer seemed like a douche. He was overly critical of gay men and kept making stupid, ignorant comments about gay men in general. I was very close to giving up, but once his background was revealed (view spoiler) I started to understand him and like him a little more. I do wish that the "make believe" would have lasted a little longer, bu

Oh my, where to start? I love these men! Sexy and seductive. I'm scared half the time that Dyer is lying... And Derrick is simply delicious. This is a fun, feel good and satisfying read. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a sequel!

Fun short story where Dyer has to act as if he's gay (which he is but no-one knows that!), and his co-actor turns out to be Derrick, his best friend's younger brother (who is). Great read!
