Very brief synopsis - Jay Roberts, ex-FBI agent, currently employed by the Osbourne Group, is tracking down her "boyfriend", Linc Dawson, after he unceremoniously dumps her. Thing is, Jay and Linc have never actually met face-to-face. Jay's psychic talent makes in-person contact problematic. Her talent allows her to pick up echoes of emotions and events when she touches things. Or people. But Jay and Linc got close during their months of communicating via electronic means. And when they meet in person, Jay discovers that Linc is a psychic null.
Anyway, Jay is convinced there is more to the story than "This isn't working out", and heads to Linc's hometown of Hell to confront him. She gets a lot more than she bargains for. Linc's town harbors a wealth of dangerous secrets, and it seems Linc's missing daughter may have gotten caught up in the evil that permeates the town.
What worked for me - Jay is a badass in pink and blue streaked hair. She didn't have the easiest upbringing, but she has taken her talents and made something of herself, with some help from her current boss. She is direct when it's possible for her to be, but she still feels vulnerable when forced to deal with Linc's distrust/disbelief of her abilities. Jay knows Linc thinks psychics are charlatans, and she is oh, so reluctant to share her truth with him. Loved Jay's mental musing concerning what her online dating profile would look like!
Linc is Hell's ex-sheriff, having quit over allegations of evidence tampering in connection with his missing daughter. He is TORMENTED by his daughter's disappearance 2 months ago. He is angry at the townsfolk for not helping solve the mystery, and I loved his revenge tactics. Don't just get mad, make sure you get even. Linc is stoic, honest and determined. He is conflicted as he wants Jay, but doesn't trust her abilities. He is terrified Jay and Taige's appearance in his town means he is too late to save his daughter.
No one writes anguished males as well as Ms. Walker. Linc's despair over his inability to find his daughter is heartbreaking.
Taige and Cullen show up in the nick of time, and stay through the story. Since they are two of my favorite characters from this series, I count this fact as a total win.
In true Shiloh Walker fashion, the bad guys are creepy, awful, rotten-to-the-core malicious.
The pace of the story is very fast. There is only one love scene, but the quality of that one scene is stellar. Most of the story is focused on solving the rash of disappearances plaguing Hell, and on Linc's reaction to Jay's abilities. There is also the loss of a major character, which was surprising and sad.
What didn't work as well - Not one thing.
Bottom line - Time very well spent. If you are already committed to this series, you will definitely enjoy this entry. Even though this is entry 4.5 in the FBI Psychics series, it can be read as a standalone. The worst that will happen is you will want to devour the rest of the series. Your pocketbook may not thank you, but your romance loving heart will appreciate it!
I am an admitted Shiloh Walker fan. I love her style. If you are at all intrigued by psychics and the possibilities therein, you owe it to yourself to give this series a read. Honestly, even if you never considered yourself interested in psychic phenomenon and just like a well-written romantic suspense, I would recommend the FBI Psychics series, or the Ash Trilogy. Or any of her titles, really. Ms. Walker writes across a lot of genres, and I have loved almost everything I have read by her.

Wow this was crazy
I wish these novellas were real books. There is so much going on, it feels like clues/explanations are missing. I really liked this one though. The h comes to town to see the hero who had ghosted her and broke up over text. They were on line dating for a year before that. She shows up in a town called Hell in the South and honestly that was a good name for the town. It was filled with evil and prejudice. Some rednecks try and touch her and she defends herself. The H shows up and tries to help too. He used to be the sheriff but the evil man that runs the town basically set him up, accusing him of crimes and he just resigned. His teenage daughter had been missing for two months. He knew that the son of the bad guy had raped girls before and He thought that he was responsible. But the evidence he found just disappeared. Now here is Jay, the h here to find out why he broke up with her. But she feels the evil in the town. There is a lot going on and I don't want to spoil it but there is so much pain that ensues, it was hard to follow at times. Two more powerful psychic women from other books in this series come to help but they are faced with a terrible force and tragedy ensues. My heart broke at the end for several reasons. I just was stunned at what happened. It was so sad. I loved the story though and while the romance in this book was lame, and if so mean lame, the mystery of it enthralled me. The chemistry just wasn't there for me with the mc's. I didn't buy the love. so the romance was just a footnote to me in the story. The real story was the women who came and fought the evil. They were incredible. I am going to continue on but I think there is just one book left. I really hope it's about Del. That would be awesome!

Jay Roberts is only in Hell, Georgia for one reason, to track Linc Dawson down and demand a reason for his cutting things off between them. But once she's there, there's a lot more going on than she may have bargained for. There's a corrupt police department and missing people, one of whom is Linc's daughter. Jay's psychic abilities make touching very difficult but she has access to the kind of help that no one wants to cross so she's staying in town to solve all the mysteries and hopefully have a chance at a relationship with Linc.

In The Innocent by Shiloh Walker, Jay literally goes to Hell to meet Linc, a man she met and connected with online. Out of the blue Linc pushed her away, and Jay wants to find out why.
Jay is a psychometric, unable to touch people without experiencing what they are, their emotions, their memories. Good and bad. When Jay gets to Hell she finds there is a lot of trouble there, and Linc seems to be in the midst of it. Surprisingly, Linc is a psychic null and Jay can touch him freely, and be touched by him. Linc has not time for anything or anyone else besides what is happening in Hell. But once Jay is there and connects to Linc, she can't leave. Not only is there a job to be done there, but she has no intention of giving up on Linc. Not after what she feels for him, what he makes her feel.
When the worst happens though, how can they possibly move on and have a future? Jay just might have to let Linc go after all.
Wow, The Innocent drew me in from the first page and kept me immersed! Shiloh gives us a fast paced, pulse pounding romantic paranormal suspense in the Innocent. Anything can happen, and Shiloh manages to surprise the reader with the unexpected. The Innocent is flawlessly written with strong characters who will really make you feel. There is a lot of story in The Innocent, but the novella is easy to read and follow, very well paced.
I would highly recommend The Innocent to any romantic suspense reader who likes a paranormal aspect mixed in. You won't be disappointed!!

Jay has made the journey to Hell, Georgia to find Lincoln. She's been Skyping, texting, and talking to him on the phone for almost two years. Up until two months ago, she had considered the possibility that they might have a real relationship, but then he told her to stay out of his life. She couldn't accept that, so when she runs into him at a gas station on the outskirts of town, she finds out that he is no longer sheriff and that his daughter has been missing for that same two months. When they are thrown in jail for defending themselves, she calls in help which comes in the form of Taige Morgan, famous psychic and friend of Jay's boss Elise Oswald - known as Oz. Jay must help Linc not only come to terms with the fact that she is also psychic, but that his daughter might not be dead.
The Innocent suffers as the other books in The FBI Psychics Series have by being too short. Jay is a very likable character, but there are many characters in this book and emotions run high. Unfortunately, it left this reader confused as to who said what, when. Which he is she thinking of when he is standing there but hasn't even entered the room yet.... huh?
Not reading more by this author. It feels like it didn't even make it to beta readers. Definitely no editor. Not a professional, high-quality one, anyway. No proofreader, either.
I cannot recommend this book. 0.5 stars for the promising premise. - 4.5 stars for the poor execution.

I had no idea what was going on for most of this, which makes sense as it is book 4.5 in a series I haven't read. There are psychics who are FBI or work for the FBI or for the Oswald Corporation - unclear - but they obviously know nothing of actual investigation, procedure, or generally how the world works. I may have liked this better had I read the earlier books in the series for a little (or any) world building, but even then I'm not sure given how the romance (more like what romance?) plays out. Definitely not a stand alone.

Really liked this one - but note that the kindle version ends at page 150, going immediately to a peek at another title in the series. I wish they would format these with a page in between! It makes the end seem more abrupt than it probably is.
This is a novella in the series, and I wished it was longer. Except then, I don't know if I could have taken the trauma of it all. I liked the couple, and the suspense is intense. I would like more of the couple as a couple though.

Quickly becoming a favorite
This series is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Fair warning, the subject matter is dark and for some may cause triggers. The writing is good and the character development is excellent. It is part of a series but you don't have to read them in order to enjoy this story. You don't have to but I bet you'll want to.

So Freakin...
So I got sucked into this book. And there were a few times it is very good I don’t have psychic powers. Because Shiloh Walker would be at my home while I ranted about the Protagonists. Or chained to a seat writing note. Really enjoyed. Need Del’s story soon.

Confusing
I don't see how a parent wouldn't seek help from outside sources if you have the power/resources? You also need a new proofreader! The ending wasn't too great either; did the psychic have to died?

This book is still a strong stand alone read and has some returning and favorite characters; it was a bit briefer than most of the stories and felt like there was more to tell, but I enjoyed it.

Wonderful Story
I really enjoyed this story, I love books about physics. I sometimes wish I had this ability but clearer thinking says don't dog there.....

The F.B.I. Psychics series was the first time I ever read Ms. Walker. I frequently reread the first book in this series-The Missing. A robust romantic suspense, fraught with peril, darkness, suspense, and the paranormal. The series is built around two agencies that work independent of each other but often intermingle depending on the case. Two agencies (one private and one government sanctioned) made up of psychics whose gifts cover a wide range of abilities and strengths. The cases they take are often ones the normal police channels cannot solve. And often, these cases are so steeped in evil, they leave a mark on everyone they touch.
The Innocent is a dark novella that takes readers down a tangled path of secrets, lies, and murder that leads to the small town of Hell, Georgia. Well plotted with a robust storyline that belays this novella’s page length. Fully developed characters provide the stimulus while an action packed conflict keeps the reader fully engaged. Though this novella introduces two new characters to the series and has a resolved ending; events occur in here that may spoil for those who have not read the previous books. That being said, it can be read alone and out of order.

Having “dated” each other on line and built a romance of sorts, their actual meeting brings conflicting emotions that are exasperated by the events happening in town and in their own lives. Each have their reasons for not being completely honest and I think Walker does a fabulous job of showing us the sexual tension and rough jagged feelings that surrounds them. As if they are both right on the edge of something explosive and are unsure if this is what they want or need in their lives. The love isn’t instant and the emotions that run through this are hot and heavy.
The secondary characters are bold, viable additions to the story as they add layers to the suspense and mystery. I loved how pervious heroes and heroines are brought in to help bridge the story to the series and provide back up for Jay and Linc. As always in this series, each one holds a piece of the puzzle. They help to make up a solid foundation for our storyline to build upon. Small bites of humor are injected to alleve the darkness that permeates the storyline. As with any good thriller, there are multiple sub plots running through the main storyline and each one is a key to the final outcome. Ms. Walker does a fabulous job of maintaining these separate entities without overburdening us with unnecessary information or complicated scenarios. When it all comes together in the end, we are treated to an astounding finale that ties it all together and opens some new pathways for the series to go down.
The Innocent is a worthy addition to this series and a must read for those readers who love their paranormal romances to be wrapped in dark and emotional with a suspenseful storyline and intriguing characters.I am looking forward to the release of her next full length novel-title and release to be announced.

Things she really needed to know before she set foot in Hell.
Linc Dawson never expected to see Jay in his hometown and does everything to convince her to leave before she winds up hurt or dead. Corruption has stained the town and Linc needs all his wits about him to find the cause and retrieve what was stolen from him. But Jay isn’t leaving. She was sent to Hell for a reason and she has the resources, the back up, and the gifts to help him.
As Jay and Linc work together to discover what is happening in this small town, Linc learns that he wasn’t the only hiding secrets. Secrets that can be his saving grace or destroy everything and everyone he’s come to love.
The F.B.I. Psychics series was the first time I ever read Ms. Walker. I frequently reread the first book in this series-The Missing. A robust romantic suspense, fraught with peril, darkness, suspense, and the paranormal. The series is built around two agencies that work independent of each other but often intermingle depending on the case. Two agencies (one private and one government sanctioned) made up of psychics whose gifts cover a wide range of abilities and strengths. The cases they take are often ones the normal police channels cannot solve. And often, these cases are so steeped in evil, they leave a mark on everyone they touch.
The Innocent is a dark novella that takes readers down a tangled path of secrets, lies, and murder that leads to the small town of Hell, Georgia. Well plotted with a robust storyline that belays this novella’s page length. Fully developed characters provide the stimulus while an action packed conflict keeps the reader fully engaged. Though this novella introduces two new characters to the series and has a resolved ending; events occur in here that may spoil for those who have not read the previous books. That being said, it can be read alone and out of order.

However, one does not need to have read any of the other books to enjoy The Innocent; it is completely stand alone. Although it is a shortened-length story, it is packed with riveting action and suspense. As Jay, Taige and Linc put the puzzle pieces together, I was glued to the pages, trying to figure out what was happening before the characters could uncover the truth.
The story is filled with fabulous, complex characters which add so much to the story. The bad guys are slimy and evil, just the way I like them, and even better, the heroes are jaded and rough. For example, Lincoln isn’t so innocent. He’s a real ass to anyone who turned a blind eye to his daughter’s disappearance. Using his family’s fortune, he has caused true hardship for many in the town. He’s not just a man in pain and turmoil; he is bent on bring down those around him, sinking to deep lows at times to do so.
The book does have a minor love-interest story, but I feel it plays second fiddle to the mystery and suspense. Jay and Linc have a chance to explore the feelings that developed long-distance over the internet and phone. There is one sex scene; it is quick and hot, which suits the tempo and mood of the novella. However, the couple carries a LOT of baggage, and they have a long way to go before any true romance can play out. So don’t pick up The Innocent expecting a love story - it’s not.
Overall I liked the story. It was engrossing, albeit a little tough at times. As I mentioned, The Innocent really isn't the romance I was expecting. I liked Jay and Linc together before the maelstrom hits, but they have a lot of issues to work through before they can have a real relationship. The overall mystery of what happened to Linc’s daughter, coupled with the well-developed characters, made this novella an exciting read and one I recommend to fans of suspense stories.

I received a copy of this novella in exchange for a fair and unbiased review. I have followed the FBI Physics series with vastly differences in my opnions about the books, veering between a rating of 5 stars for book 1 (The Missing) to a low of 2 stars for book 2 (The Departed). I originally gave this novella 3 stars, until I realized that much of my confusion about which of the multiple characters was nonverbally 'talking' at any given point during the big fight scene was due to formatting issues caused when I sent the original PDF to my Kindle and converted it to Mobi format. This conversion had scrambled the formatting and made the story very hard to follow. Once I ironed out that issue by looking at it as a PDF, I felt tons better about this novella.
The Innocent has a kick ass heroine, something Shiloh Walker's books do really well. Psychic Jay Robertson has the ability to feel (and be overwhelmed by) others' feeling when she touches them. Thus, she wears gloves and has very limited interactions with others, and is still a vrigna at age 25. Jay has been interacting with ex-Sheriff Linc Dawson online in chat rooms for a year and really hitting it off, when out of the blue he dumps her and cuts off contact. She thinks this feels really off for him, so he heads down to Hell, Georgia to confront him and find out what's really going on.
Linc used to be the sheriff, but his daughter was kidnapped 2 months ago. He knows that someone in town was responsible for it, but is thwarted in his attempts as sheriff to track down what is going on. He resigns in protest, but continues to try to find out what happened to his daughter. Linc feels it is dangerous in Hell, and wants to get Jay out before she is in danger too.
When Jay shows up in Hell, she is immediately aggressively hit on and threatened by 3 men in a convenience store, and then Linc unexpectedly shows up as she is defending herself and breaks the leg of one of the guys who is going after Jay. Jay and Linc are thrown in jail by the corrupt new Sheriff and his flunkie deputies. Jay is getting really bad vibes from the town of Hell (go figure!), and she can tell there is something really wrong with the town and its citizens. Jay's friends show up to help out get Jay and Linc out of jail.
The bad guys are revealed, but there is a surprise twist when we find out what happened to Linc's daughter, which is a pretty cool concept. Very X-Men in feel. I don't want to talk too much about the second half of the novella, because a good part of the enjoyment for me was figuring out what was going on (partly as I tried to figure out who was saying what in my mis-formatted Knidle book!)
One can read this as a stand-alone novella, but it's great as a series reader to see some old and familiar faces here. There is only one sex scene, but, as you'd expect for Shiloh Walker, it rocked. What do you get when you have a town called Hell, a sexy ex-sheriff, and a tattooed, bad-ass heroine? Why, you have The Innocent, which is book 4.5 in the FBI Psychic series. While this is a short story, there still is a STORY wrapped up within it's pages, which a lot of time you don't get in this format. It really packed a LOT of story into those pages, too.
We meet Jay while she is on the road to a town called Hell to give her sort-of boyfriend a visit because he stopped talking to her a few months ago. While they hadn't met in person yet, she thought they were closer than just cutting off contact. The moment she hits the outskirts of town her abilities start picking up how wrong things are in this town. She runs into Linc, her sort-of boyfriend, when he shows up at the gas station she'd stopped at on the edge of town. There are some fierce sparks flying between these two no matter what is going on around them.
We saw more of Jay's abilities in this book, spent some time with a favorite couple Taige and Cullen, and ran into a few of the other members of their team. We see a father, Linc, who's given up almost everything to search for his missing daughter in a town that's hiding some major secrets.
I really enjoyed this installment, and particularly connected with Jay as one of my favorite characters in the series. The only thing I'd have liked more was if it had been a full novel. If you're a fan of this series, you need to read this story. If you're not a fan of this series, well then you're totally missing out on a fantastic series, and should pick this book up! ~ Reviewed by Chris

My very first thought about this book was WOW! The Innocent by Shiloh Walker is one really intense story that kept me turning pages quickly. I could not put this book down! I have enjoyed each book I have had the chance to read by Ms. Walker. She never fails to amaze me with the wonderful story lines and unique characters she creates.
I really liked Jay Roberts, this girl has had so many things happen to her in her life. I liked that she is innocent but oh so tough and strong as well. She is one kick butt girl with a unique personality. She is determined to find out what is happening with her online boyfriend Linc Dawson.
When Jay arrives in Hell, GA she discovers there is way more going on then meets the eye and it sets her psychic abilities into an uproar. Things go wrong right away and she has to call in help. That is one thing I really like about this series is that friends from previous stories appear to help out. I love to catch up with old friends.
Linc Dawson can really only think of one thing, his missing daughter. His life has totally fallen apart and he just doesn't know how to handle Jay showing up in town. However when these two get the chance they ignite some pretty explosive fireworks. There are a few nice steamy scenes before things get even more intense.
I'm not going to tell you anymore about the intense action and dramatic scenes in this book. You must go grab a copy and read it for yourself. I will tell you that once I hit where things started to get really intense I could NOT put this book down.
If you are already a fan of Ms. Walker's FBI Psychics series then you must read this one. If you have not had the chance to read this series yet, never fear you will be able to read this book as a stand alone with no problem. Just go grab a copy, hurry! Captivating paranormal thriller!
This is a novella in the FBI Psychics series and can be read as a stand-alone.
Jay Roberts is psychometric; she can’t touch people for their emotions are overwhelming. She wears gloves to limit contact and has learned to put up psychic shields in her mind for protection. She’s sassy and tougher than she looks. She’s gone to Hell, Georgia to find the man that she had been seeing online until he went silent. Her senses told her that something was wrong with the way he stopped speaking to her and she wants to hear why face to face. She isn’t in town long before her psychic senses tell her that there is something seriously wrong in this town, the kind of trouble she is unfortunately familiar with. But can Linc accept her for what she is and take the help of Jay and her friends?
Linc Dawson, is the former Sheriff of a town appropriately named Hell. He’s a tough honorable man whose reputation has been ruined and whose daughter is missing. Finding out what happened to her is his sole focus. He stopped talking to Jay because he was in a bad place with nothing to offer her and didn’t want to drag her into the hell he is now living. This was an intense emotional thriller that I read in one sitting. The story line is captivating, the characters are so complex. They have both kept secrets from each other and have to deal with that amidst the suspense and drama of a missing child and a town riddled with evil. I really liked this couple, they are exactly what each other needs and you can feel their attraction. For a short work this novella had so much emotional depth and many interwoven threads that are all put together neatly at the end.

Jay Roberts is psychometric; she can’t touch people for their emotions are overwhelming. She wears gloves to limit contact and has learned to put up psychic shields in her mind for protection. She’s sassy and tougher than she looks. She’s gone to Hell, Georgia to find the man that she had been seeing online until he went silent. Her senses told her that something was wrong with the way he stopped speaking to her and she wants to hear why face to face. She isn’t in town long before her psychic senses tell her that there is something seriously wrong in this town, the kind of trouble she is unfortunately familiar with. But can Linc accept her for what she is and take the help of Jay and her friends?
Linc Dawson, is the former Sheriff of a town appropriately named Hell. He’s a tough honorable man whose reputation has been ruined and whose daughter is missing. Finding out what happened to her is his sole focus. He stopped talking to Jay because he was in a bad place with nothing to offer her and didn’t want to drag her into the hell he is now living. “The Innocent” by Shiloh Walker is a novella which is part of the ‘FBI Psychics’ series and features psychometric Jay Roberts who is determined to find out why a promising and rare online friendship with Lincoln Dawson was abruptly terminated. The discovery that he has not only lost his position in law enforcement but has been dealing with the nightmare of a missing daughter turns out to be only the tip of the iceberg with respect to the swirling miasma of evil that seems to be focused on the aptly named town of Hell. Fortunately, Jay is not one to be intimidated by a little hostility and she has an unexpected wealth of resources to help her deal with Hell, both literally and figuratively speaking.
This is another delicious addition to a series about a group of people with very unusual mental talents who struggle to eliminate the evils which abound in life, especially those
which involve victimizing women and children. The strong and tormented characters which this author excels at creating are frequently honed by horrific experiences and this story is no exception. I especially enjoyed the clash between the unconventional Jay and the admittedly stereotyped bullies she eventually conquers with a little help from newly-met allies even as I mourn the developments which will cause a shake-up in the organization that she works for. The whirlwind of events that transpire make the exciting climax a little overwhelming and it would be nice to have had a little more detail but I understand that there are limitations imposed by the length of the novella. I certainly hope there are more stories involving these compelling characters as I think this is a fantastic theme and want it to continue!

Another chilling installment in the FBI Psychics series. This time, the supernatural element didn't come into play until the very end. Even though it was a underlying idea.
I actually loved that our hero and heroine had met online. They'd carried on a virtual relationship for over a year, even got up to some Skype and phone sexy time. The main reason why our heroine wasn't jumping on the physical bandwagon and running to meet him? Her psychic power. She can't touch others without risking hearing their thoughts and seeing other events unfold. Which in the end leaves her drained, and is the reason why at her age she's still a virgin.
But Jay makes the decision to visit Hell, Georgia and remedy this. Only she comes to find Linc, the Sheriff (or ex-Sheriff) she's been corresponding with in a ton of trouble that he won't be able to dig out of on his own. The town has had a series of mysterious disappearances, amongst which was his own teenage daughter. And he won't have time in his life for anything until he finds her.
Short but entertaining. THE INNOCENT grabbed my attention from the very beginning! I can't wait to see what Ms. Walker has in store for us next in this series.
