Maybe I'm just not in a good place but this was... not what I needed. Smart pretty "not like other girls and I'll tell boys that outloud" who is in over her head but magically picks up on everything she's supposed to be doing in the space of 24 hours, quiet staid cowboy vet nursing a 'secret pain'. Girl interferes in his personal life after knowing him for 2.5 seconds. sex muddies the waters.

I just couldn't fall into this one. too much was unbelievable and I never was able to give in to the fan

Fourteenth in the Sons of Chance romance series revolving around the Chance family and their friends in Shoshone, Wyoming. The couple focus is on Lily King and Regan O’Connelli.

I couldn't wait to dive into Thompson's new installment in the Sons of Chance saga, and was particularly grateful to receive this eARC. No, I'm still gonna do an honest review...*grin*!

My Take
This is typically Thompson with a sweet romance filled with decent people with whom you’d love to be friends. Although there are so

I got this book in a box of books that I bought at a book sale. Reading the first page I realized that I had previously read this book. I remember liking the book the first time so I decided to keep reading. Glad I kept reading.

What do you do with an old horse no one wants? Does anyone think of that? I sure didn't until I read this story. Thank you for broaching that subject.

Fast forward 7 years and I’m trying to catch up.

Riding High is the 14th book of the Sons of Chance series by Vicki Lewis Thompson. I didn't discover this series until around book 10, so I can tell you for absolute confidence that any of these books can be read alone and you will never know the difference. For anyone that's read Vickie Lewis Thompson you already know that her characters and her stories are just sweet, easy reads. I swear every time I pick up one of her books it's like coming home.

This book has some issues, mainly that there’s a little too much back story on the Chance Family in the beginning to tie this into that series and a little too much focus on detailed sex for my tastes (even for a Harlequin Desire), but these two items aside, it’s a lovely look at coming to understand yourself and being willing to let yourself be vulnerable enough to take a chance on love.

The male main character, Regan, is broken for very good reason, bu

The very unconventional Lily King has left the insanity of Silicone Valley with the sale of a highly success video game to take up another insanity altogether in the form of a horse sanctuary near Shoshone, Wyoming. The odd, but animal loving woman has painted every single building on the property a different bright color which definitely reflects her personality. Lily has a serious problem with saying no to anyone wanting to drop off a creature at her doorstep, so in addition to the passel of h

I enjoyed this read and thought it was a lovely story about finding your way, rebuilding your life after you were betrayed, and starting over with a new love. I thought the author showed how easy it is to misunderstand each other, how men and women think differently.

Lily is a very smart woman but with most smart people they get bored easy until they find the one thing that makes their world tick. Lily built a game and made a ton of money, but got bored and moved on. She decides to buy a horse sa

I was excited about this book, it incorporates two different elements that I really enjoy, animals and the whole western/cowboy theme. I really enjoyed the book from beginning to end.

So Lily, on a whim, and a desire to give back, took over an animal sanctuary (well horse sanctuary), and was completely over her head. I myself, am a complete animal loved, and have been guilty of taken in a broken animal without having a clue as to how much work it was really going to be. But as Lily finds through

Regan may have been raised in a hippy type lifestyle complete with peace, love, and drifting, but as an adult he wanted roots. He wanted stability. He thought he’d found that until he caught his best friend in bed with his fiancée. Six months later he finds himself actually thinking about getting back in the saddle, but it’s not the game calling him back onto the field of play, it’s the gi

I'm been following this series for years. Read a bunch on vacation and liked them very much. I like when she wrote more stories with the 'extended' family of the Chance's. Knew that this one was going to be difficult after reading the end of last book's ending. On two counts it is difficult because one - when a friend is betrayed by a friend and two - betrayed by your fiancé with such friend. It is 6 months later after Regan found Drake in bed with his fiancé Jeanette on Christmas Eve. He's put ...more

RIDING HIGH is a fun, fast, sexy read. I always enjoy a Vicki Lewis Thompson novel. Lily King is way over her head with her horse sanctuary. She has taken in more than she can handle. When Regan O’Connelli points it out she knows he is right. When she meets him and he does not take off his sun glasses, she knows that is has been hurt and he is protecting himself. She knows that she does not want to be his rebound girl. When he mov

Riding High by Vicki Lewis Thompson

I learned a few tips on training horses with this book. For a city dweller it's useless information, but interesting nonetheless. That was fun.
Loved the couch analysis! Really, sitting three in a row on a couch is just not comfortable! We all know it.

A very confident and fun loving heroine. A hot romantic veterinarian cowboy. A sexy couple.

This was a fun, yet HOT and steamy book. Lily bought Peaceful kingdom. She now owned lots of horses, chickens, and two pot belly pigs. Lily was a fun heroine. She painted her barn pink, with turquoise doors. When Regan who was a large animal vet went to Lily's for the first time, I couldn't help but smile. He saw the animals roaming at will, and he noticed none of the animals were in the bright colored barn. The attraction was instant when he met Lily. Some of the book was a little cheesy, but i ...more

Regan O'Connelli came to Last Chance Ranch after his fiance and best friend betrayed him to start his life over. He didn't expect to meet someone, let alone someone like Lily.
Lily King is running a horse sanctuary, which is a big challenge for her because she is the queen of anti-structure. With Regan's help, it is all coming together.
As Regan and Lily work together to bring her sanctuary to a stable structure to run it, they become closer then friends, more then really. The sparks are flying

I received a free copy of this book through Netgalley for an honest review, all opinions are my own. Lily made her money creating a video game but decides to give back by buying a Horse Sanctuary. Regan is a local vet who goes to check on the animals and decides to help the feisty redhead get the horses under control and come up with an adoption plan to keep the ...more

Meh, that's the only feeling I have after reading this book. It didn't excite me. It did nothing for me. It's a "sweet" romance that lacks any sexy action or interest that would keep me reading. For real, it was boring. I had to force myself to turn the pages.

Woman has horse rescuse, no clue how to run it. I found her character to be dull, naive and airheaded. Reagan was a little better of a character, but really? To deal with her mistakes and what not?

I felt that even though the story was slo

I love these Sons of Chance books. They're so quick to read and without a doubt when you pick one up you're sure to have a good read. This book was no different. The characters are loveable, the location is perfect and the trouble/drama that they get themselves caught up in is at times funny, other times tense. 3 1/2 stars. Would have given it 4 1/2 if it wasn't for the ultimatum Lily gave Regan towards the end of the story. Did not think that was fair of her at all.
As a side note, I find it a bit difficult keeping the O'Connelli family's names straight. With them all having gender neutral names, it takes me a bit to figure out, "Okay, was that a boy or a girl?" I understand the author's idea behind doing this, but it still makes it a bit difficult at times when the other siblings weave in and out of t

I have not read any of the other "Last Chance" series books. I'm jumping in pretty far in the series, but this is the start to a set of 3 books within the series.

The book was an okay read for me. I didn't find myself invested in the characters or the story so much. In fact, I found myself putting the book down and not going back to it for a couple of days. While Regan and Lily are fine characters, they are a bit bland. Nothing special to drawn me into them.

I will read more of the series, but no

This is a DNF for me. I got to about 52% and just couldn't continue. I didn't particularly like the heroine, Lily. I think she was supposed to be somewhat free-spirited, but she seemed flighty and very impulsive to me. I didn't really care for her. The hero, Regan, was okay, but I found I just didn't care about them. The dialogue was really cheesy. And I have not read any of the other books in this series, so I didn't know any of the cast of thousand Chance characters that were name dropped. I r ...more

Love Endures a Rough Ride
Another great book in the Sons of Chance series! Riding High is a fantastic read. The characters are real and encourage you to cheer for them. Conflicts arise and the sizzle starts. Well written (of course – it’s from Vicky Lewis Thompson’s) and fast paced. Sometimes second chances are the best kind of romances. NetGalley and Harlequin provided an advanced review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Riding High may be #14 in a series but it holds up well as a stand alone. Both Regan O’Connelli and Lily King are interesting characters. They met, are attracted, see a problem, ignore the problem and then have a problem again. All in all a cute sweet story with great characters. While Regan and Lily seem to be opposites they really compliment each other. Their journey to a HEA is interesting and fun.

This book is AMAZING!

I literally didn't want to put it down! The language is fantastic (minus the profanity) the characters are great, I just couldn't get enough it's touching, cute, funny and whitty. One of the sweetest love stories I've read and I loved it, I will definitely recommend it to anyone who love's a great romance story.

This was a fun, quick read. I enjoyed the characters, but the fast-paced nature of the romance was kind of hard to believe. (view spoiler) However, I did get the happily ever after that I wanted when I chose this book, so I guess I shouldn't complain.
