The Impersonal Life

Rate this book
In order to better to comprehend the deep and vital truths contained in the within Message, you are urged to approach each reading of it with quiet and open mind. Still the intellect and invite your Soul to do the teaching, Read but a sentence at a time, and do not pass to the next until Something within you responds to the truth therein, and points out clearly the meaning for you
More than all, try to realize that the "I" speaking thruout the Message is the Spirit within, your own Soul, the Impersonal Self, the Real You; the same Self that in other moments of quiet points out to you your mistakes, your follies, your weaknesses, and is ever chiding and aiding you yo live up to Its ideals, which It continually holds before your mental gaze.
It was to such a quiet mind as this that the within Message came during months filled with an intense yearning for the guidance of the Spirit and an opportunity to serve the Loving Father who had been found to be ever-present and always ready to bless those of His children who loved Him first in their hearts and lives.
The help and guidance thus received is passed on to you, for the wise and loving teaching is so Impersonal that it will apply equally well to everyone who is ready to receive it.
The great blessing of the Message is that, if you are ready, the "I" speaking herein will continue to speak direct to you from out your own heart, after you lay aside the book, and in so intimate and convincing a way that It will make clear all your problems, be to you a fount of Wisdom and Strength, and bring you Peace, Health, Happiness, Freedom, - an abundance of everything your heart desires.
This little book, therefore, is intended to serve as a channel or open door thru which you may enter into the Joy of your Lord, the Comforter promised by Jesus, the living expression of the Christ of God.

The worst book I've ever read. Not persuasive at all and super repetitive; it felt as if the author was trying to hypnotize you. I'd rather read Twilight than this book; only read it for a religion class. Skip if you want to read anything with literary or educational merit.

To be completely honest, I didn't finish the book. I understand the point being made. I tend to be a cosmic believer and that we have the ability to get in touch with our "higher self" our "divineness." But this book did not get me there. It's by Anonymous; I get that. But there is nothing to indicate anything about its origin. The language makes it sound like it's some ancient text...but not quite. The language makes it sound like a translation from a foreign language...but not quite. A poor translation? Faked Old World? And the "not quite" makes it stilted--drudgery to read---and oddly suspect rather than impersonal. There are other books on the subject that are far easier to comprehend.

Someone recommended this book to me about a year ago and I finally got around to purchasing it and reading it recently. Although it's just 84 pages, it's packed with common sense wisdom surrounding this age-old concept that God is indeed within each and everyone of us, and within everything else in creation as well. Although the back-cover refers to it as a "classic of Christian literature," I felt its message was truly non-denominational. I highly recommend this work as a spiritual growth resource.

This is a little book the size of your hand that is very good. It is the other side of Elvis. "This was his favorite book, next to the Bible. He gave out copies by the score to friends and acquaintances. He was constantly searching for God." That is the reason he always made sure there was at least one or two gospel songs in his concerts. It is said that he had this little book with him all the time.

Call it a handbook of Christian Zen. Read it with the Upanishads. Tell me that there is not a shared vision.
