3.5 - "Who could resist a hero in distress." Stars.

Under the Hood is a really enjoyable novella that introduces us to mechanic Alice Starr and the all female garage that she is trying to get up and running with her friends, aptly named Under The Hood!

”Not all men are lying, cheating bastards.”

Alice has been hurt in the past and has a big thing for honesty in all of her relationships, so when she helps her sexy neighbour Mark Jameson out when he appears to be having car trouble, little does she k
If a quick, easy-read sweet romance is what you're after, this novella is just that. With the story centralising around Under the Hood, a garage run by ladies for ladies, Sally Clements has turned the H/h role on its head and it's our female lead Alice Starr that does the rescuing of the towns lawyer, Mark Jameson when his car encounters a problem.

With sweet moments balanced with flirting, humour and a little bit of angst, the story was lovely as were Alice and Mark and whilst nothing too unpred
Not all woman would think that being a mechanic would be a lucrative profession nor is it all that sexy, unless the mechanic is male, is hotter than the hottest of engines and ready to rev you up all night long.

But female mechanics, nope not something you see everyday! So I was shocked but also pleasantly surprised when discovering the heroine in the Sally Clements read is a female mechanic, not that I don't believe woman can't do anything just as well as men, it is just something that is not us

I have to start by saying that this is my favorite book from Sally so far. Under the Hood was a quick, fun, flirty read that I enjoyed from start to finish. I loved that the heroine Alice is the sexy mechanic that rescues the man. You usually see it the other way around so it was a nice change. Mark is a sexy divorce attorney that is not an egotistical jerk like many others. The attraction between Alice and Mark was instant hot. This is a fast read, but

Under the Hood by Sally Clements was a fun, sweet, and laugh out loud good read. What it lost in being short, it made up for with charm and wonderful characters, who pop from the page.

Alice is a crack mechanic and a car enthusiast and she is all woman. She and her fellow owners of Under the Hood (a garage for and by women) really are a fun bunch to get to know. She comes from a car-loving family but wants to forge her own path, not stay with the family business. A failed relationship in the past

I was in the mood for something a little light and the idea of an all-girls operating garage appeals to me so I gave this one a go. It's quick, light to the point you most likely will never think of it again, and just entertainment.

Though I still love the garage. I wish there was one in real life. The garage is the coolest aspect of this story. Three women start a garage for women clientele. With a garage such as this, ladies can take their cars in without fear of being patronized, having male m
I liked this book. For something that is short it truly is very memorable. A cute and sweet romance, we have two unlikely protagonists, a female mechanic and a divorce lawyer who is simply adored by his female clients for being fair. There is an almost real like feel to this tale, from the first time that Alice and Mark meet, the way their romance unfolds, the feelings that they start having until the moment that they acknowledge them. Simply refreshing, with no angst, no conspiracy to keep them ...more
This was a sweet, fun, light hearted read and I really enjoyed it. The characters had great chemistry and though their relationship started with a misunderstanding there were no major lies or big secrets. There were no evil plotters or crazy stalkers causing trouble for the couple; no one trying to kill either or both of them. This is just a sweet story about two people who meet and start a relationship and though they have bumps along the way it’s nothing that can’t be worked out. My only criti ...more
Sally Clements is a sparkling new voice in the already amazing Bliss line. This was a delightful read.

Curl up in a perfect spot, grab a drink and ignore the world for while to indulge in this novella.

My favourite thing about this story was it's setting. Not the small town, though I love those. It's the fact that it's set in an all female mechanic shop. I think this is a refreshingly brilliant idea. The three women who run it are amazing. I want all three as friends.

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

I've read Sally Clements before and thoroughly enjoyed Runaway Groom. I was excited to be given this novella and dove right in. It's about Alice, a sexy, lingerie-wearing car mechanic who helps Mark, an attorney, start up his car. Both have been burned in their relationships before and are wary of starting a new one, but the sparks between these two was evident, and I could definitely feel it. I've read another novella of the author before, which did

Under the Hood was such a fun read, I loved it :)
Both Mark and Alice are likeable characters and you can't help but fall in love with them and their story.

This was my first read by the author Sally Clements and it won't be the last. She give us believable characters and a love story that leaves the reader full of happy feels.

If you're looking for a fun, romantic read then I highly recommend Under the Hood :)

Alice is a strong able body mechanic which I LOVED as a character! I really enjoy strong female characters! She is someone who I would enjoy to know in real life! Mark is a great balance to Alice! Fun light read! This is a good beach or escape read!
When this novella popped up as a freebie on Amazon, I had to snag it. I'm a sucker for Entangled romance novels, especially Bliss titles. They're always perfectly sugary and tame. You know, for those times when I don't want the heat, just the sweet!

Huge hugs to Sally Clements for writing a female character with a job not typically seen in romance novels. Alice is a mechanic, and she's damn good at what she does. I loved the idea of garage tailored to female patrons. Why not? Alice and her friend
This was a short novella from the author Sally Clements. I haven't read anything by her previously and after reading this I am open to giving her other books a shot. The main character in this book is Alice Starr, she's a female mechanic who opened a garage with two female friends of hers. She's a tough woman and I love that she has a job that typically are occupied by men. When she leaves her building and sees her downstairs neighbor Mark Jameson having car trouble she jumps right in to help hi ...more

This is a super quick novella- it was almost over as soon as it began. At least it felt that way. Maybe it was just my super human fast reading abilities...

I liked the concept of this book- Alice being a mechanic for an "all woman" garage, independent and in control meets Mark, who doesn't really need her help but allows the pretty girl do her job because, well, she is pretty and he is interested. There is an abundance of chemistry going on.

Like I said, the book goes by quickly, and there isn't

A great novella that kept me totally entertained!! Alice, Mel and Betty are struggling to get their all women garage going. When Matt meets Alice he may not have been completely honest with her. Can they overcome their differences?? Grab this one for a quick fun read and find out. I recommend it.

A quick, sweet read with an added punch. I loved how Mark just stood aside and let Alice do her thing, "she stepped close, and took the leads from his unresisting fingers. "This one goes here," she said, fastening the clip in place, "and this one goes here." Mark nodded, still stunned. She thought he was so clueless about engines he didn't know how to attach jumper cables." I loved how Alice's movements, and behavior made Mark question himself, "she made a purring noise deep in her throat. The u ...more

Cute fast read. There were a few portions were I felt the writing was a bit short and lacking. It's a novella though so I shouldn't expect much else. I enjoyed the characters but I can't grasp Mark feeling like he lied. He let someone help him. Alice offered yadda yadda...
Regardless there was some jumping around where after a specific interaction between characters I felt could've been addressed and touched on their POV a but more. The random forgiveness on the interaction between Ali
This book sounded really good - I loved the idea of a woman sweeping in to rescue a man - even if he didn't really need it. But it just didn't live up to my expectations. Alice is super critical of not being told everything at once. How many people would really start a conversation by giving her every little piece of information she may want to know? She was a little too insecure for being such a strong character in other ways.

Mark was a great guy. I really don't think Alice gave him the credit

I loved the setting of the book, I thought the idea for the garage she worked at was a great concept.

I thought this book had a lot of potential but I didn't really connect with the characters or story-line. Perhaps it was because this is a novella so there wasn't nearly enough time to create the depth I was hoping for and the connections I long to find when reading.

For me this story was little more then girl meets boy, girl kisses boy, girl wants to sleep with boy...

Alice Starr has been burned by a lying, cheating ex, and values honesty in a relationship.
“She turned away and crossed her arms in front of her chest. “It’s nothing,” she mumbled, then looked back at him. “It’s just…I’ve had experience of jerks. Lying jerks.”

Mark Jameson is a divorce attorney who spends most of his days consoling, comforting and caring for the female clientele he represents.

Alice, Mel and Betty are the owners of a new mechanical shop for women called “Under the hood”. This book is a very average book. It did not illicit any strong emotions out of me. The plot was typical boy from wealthy family hides status from working class girl. The way it was done was different, which drew me to the book. However, there was something about the characters, perhaps the length of the story, that just made me unable to invest in either the hero or the heroine. I couldn’t get angry at the hero for lying to the heroine because his motives truly were genuine and the heroine wasn ...more
Under the Hood by Sally Clements is a sweet romantic novella about auto mechanic Alice Starr and divorce attorney Mark Jameson. Alice has recently relocated from New York to Meadowsweet, Virginia. She and her two friends own the first garage that caters their repair services exclusively to women. Mark is a townie, and his success is primarily due to word of mouth. Alice and Mark exude sex appeal, in addition to being smart and interesting.

Their relationship is slow going, mainly because Mark is

Under the Hood is a quick and cute romance about Alice, an auto mechanic, and Mark, a divorce attorney. Both happen to cater to women in their respective careers. One morning when Mark's car won't start, Alice offers him a jump, and he asks her out. On their date she notices some parts which his car needs and says she can order them for him. Well, Mark knows exactly what she's talking about, but accepts her help in order to see her again. He feels bad for dece

This was a nice sweet read, definitely not as much romance as I was expecting but an overall enjoyable story. Alice was fun as the feisty and determined garage co-owner who was out to make her mark on the world. When she met Mark Jameson in all his wealthy and sexy glory, she thought she was helping out the typical white collar who didn’t like to get his hands dirty. I liked this little switch on the age-old damsel in distress first encounter, it was cute how much Mark liked having Alice save th
