Dominic Strinati's overview and critique of the different ways researchers can study popular culture is an excellent launchpad for those interested in taking a look at perspectives through the ages and familiarising themselves with all aspects, including their failings. It is also a good resource for further reading, as his bibliographies offer excellent further reading suggestions.

An intelligible and thorough introduction to the many modern theories of popular culture analysis. Highly recommended if you want a basic introduction to popular culture studies. May be slightly outdated now, as the significantly revised second edition appeared in 2005.
