What's a girl gotta do to get what she wants out of life? According to Ra'Keeyah Jackson, she'll do whatever it takes.
Ra'Keeyah has million-dollar dreams. She's determined to come up, and she won't stop until she does. Nothing is going to stop her from getting the hottest clothes, the finest men, and money to burn. Easily influenced by her conniving girls Shayna and Quiana, Ra'Keeyah resorts to shoplifting, stealing married men's credit cards, and passing bad checks to get what she wants. Ra'Keeyah is struggling to stay on top, and she has sunk to an all-time low when she meets Brick. He's a savvy, street-smart hustler who will surely take her young heart for a ride and make her want to change. Will she be able to resist, though, when Shayna comes to her with an idea that is sure to keep their pockets on swole? This idea could cost the girls a little more than they bargained for, along with teaching them that not everyone is to be tricked!
Brandi Johnson the first time author who rose up on the scene by accident. Brandi picked up on her love for writing at a young age, but never in a million years dreamed that any of her work would ever get published. With an imagination so strong and vivid as hers, she decided to put it to the test. She became serious about her passion for writing and that's when her first novel "Spoiled Rotten" was born.
Brandi had almost given up on her dream but her heart and God wouldn't let her. She was introduced to her Editor/Agent Joylynn Jossel, to whom she is grateful to have in her corner. God took her by one hand and Joylynn Jossel by the other hand and they walked Brandi down a road that ended with a book deal.
Brandi has since written the novel "In My Girls I Trust" and a short story named "Hayden's Song" that can be found in the collaboration "Even Sinners Still Have Souls."
Brandi resides in Mansfield, Ohio where she is the busy mother of three boys and is currently working on another novel.
Even though this book is by no one other than ME... I promise you, you won't be disappointed with the story...So please support me and pick up your copy of Trickin' today...Or you'll be sorry that you didn't!!!!!
This book was a page turner I must say. One thing I liked about it is that although its predictable you never know which situation is going to happen next. A highlight of the book is when Shaynas' life story finally came out. And I would recommend this book book to anyone who loves mixed endings in books.
Ra'Keeyah Jackson needs a job so her mother doesn't cut off her cell phone bill. Too good to work fast food and to good to take the bus, she and her friends, Shayna and Quiana, start stripping for quick cash--and lots of it.
Ra'Keeyah's boyfriend Brick hates strippers--and that's basically what Re'Keeyah is. Meanwhile, Ra'Keeyah's mother hates drug dealers--and that's basically what Brick is.
As the book progresses, Ra'Keeyah starts weaving one lie after another, and stripping turns into sex for cash. Will she learn from her mistakes, or will it be too late by then? You'll have to read the book to find out.
This book was an amazing read and it was well developed. The book gave a lot of background information on certain scenarios that played out. I loved how she integrated the characters and communicated their emotions so well. The most interesting parts of the story was the relationship Ra'Keeya had with her boyfriend, friends, and mother. The conversations between Key-Key and her mother could be reminiscent of many people's relationship with their mom growing up. This book is something new that I haven't seen in awhile-- it was well written with little to no grammatical errors. Overall it was such a good read and your money will not be wasted if you decide to purchase it. *It should be available at your library also because that is how I was able to read it! Amazing Read Brandi!!
So same same same...nothing makes this book stand out from the endless number of urban lit novellas on the shelves at bookstores.
Brandi Johnson did not even attempt to switch up the formula.
Not a single likeable character.
There's rape, incest, drug abuse, drug addiction, alcoholism, the glorification of the unlawful sale and distribution of illegal substances, teenage pregnancy, murder, HIV transmission, prostitution, abuse against women, broken households...just way too much. It's like a literary Tyler Perry play - that's not a compliment.
Nothing good happened in the book. At all. The most depressing thing I've encountered this year.
This book was a great, easy and drama filled read. Well not drama filled it was pretty balanced and I liked that about this book, I loved how Ra'Keyah had sense but was still enough hood in her that was very likeable.
I loved each and every character and I loved the plot twists and all. I'm going to see now if Brandi Johnson has anymore books. I'd love to read and see if there maybe a sequel!
"It ain't trickin if you got it." RIGHT! this book was a page turner, had a few type-o but other then that I really enjoyed the read, and would recommend this book to young adults and high school students.
To support the author I bought a copy of this book a while back thinking that it was about one thing & found out it was about something slightly different. On the real, I would have preferred that she/the author had written a follow up to POWDER BLU though. There was alot left unsaid/unexplained in Powder Blu that should be resolved.
Interesting book, inspirational book. Ra’Keesha handles her business and learns how to dance and earn money the fast way. She uses her body, brains, and beauty to get the money she needs to support her family. It’s a good read.
This book was good! For a long time I been reading thee worst books ever! (Sister Souljah "A deeper love inside")....this was what I needed. I loved it, a def. page turner. Although it wasn't very original, like I said I had been reading the worst books, I desperately needed to read something that made me go omgggggg no this bitch didn't! This was it. I love me some Brick bitch! Haha I would definitely read a part 2 so hopefully that's in the making. IM NOT READY TO SAY BYE TO BRICK!!!!!!! lol *im serious
SPOILER ALERT I am so glad that Brick ended up with Keyah. I knew that someone was going to out her and tell Brick she was stripping and thought it was going to be the down south girl Peighton to rat her out and try to mess with Brick . It was sad when her bestfriend Shayna died that heart my heart glad Brick was there to hold her down even though they wasnt together. Sad about the girl Quiana dying too even though she was on some reckless shit. I really enjoyed the ending as well made my heart flutter
This book is worth your time. It was a good read. It shows how you can get caught up and someone decent comes along and give you a reason to change for the better.
