I'm not sure if there is another book as I feel the story could have gone further, I loved this story it not a few raw nerves for me, as I certainly remember stories of my Grandparents & Parents from these difficult times, I just love when you delve into a book & you are right there in the middle of it & that's what you get right from the start here, I very highly recommend it the historical dates are incredible ... Well Done to The Author Lyn Andrews..
A captivating journey through The war years of friends who leave their family to start anew in Liverpool
A captivating story about life in Liverpool during the war of love and heartache and family values The hardship of the war years sensitively written to enable the reader to fully understand the Pain and suffering in the daily life of one family
Even though this book was full of frightening times and heartbreak, there were lots of happy times and I enjoyed reading it. I loved the friendship between Molly and Bernie and how they stuck together through thick and thin. Reading books like this always makes me realise how lucky we are and how much we take for granted.
Liverpool in War time 😞 Night after night being bombed and whole streets just wiped off the face of the city. So heartbreaking that whole families were blown to kingdom come. Yes I cried 😢
I liked everything in the book .A lovely story sad at times but very happy with there life . War is a terrible thing really frighting and very hard times.
I do feel sorry for this book. This was the first novel I've read since reading the Game of Thrones series so anything was going to pale into significance compared to it. Unfortunately I wasn't greatly impressed with this book. I didn't think it was written particularly well, I didn't feel very attached to the main characters and it wasn't as good as other books I've read based in Liverpool in World War Two. Having said that it's a very easy to read book and you can easily fly through it in a day or two. I think Andrews also set the scene well and made you realise the devastation Liverpool went through during the war. It was an ok read but not one I'll pick up again.
Pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this book that I just picked up for a bit of light relief. It is a family story set in Liverpool in the late 30's and WW2. In fact it resonated with me as I remember my mum telling me about having to go to the shelter in the garden during air raids, while grandad went off on duty as a Special constable. It made me realise how scary it would have been and the dread of your home being bombed or worse, a family member being hurt or even killed. Not such light reading after all, but a tale well told, if a bit sentimental. I will probably pick up more books by Lyn Andrews
A great read set around the war years in Liverpool. Bernie and Molly moved over from Ireland and love their new lives. The war intervenes and sad times lie ahead. It read like a sequel and I have just read reviews that say they'd read the first book. So I must look that up.
