The Curse Breakers is book two in The Curse Keepers series by Denise Grover Swank. I have repeatedly admitted to my fandom of this author and this book most definitely did not disappoint me. It has everything, sweet romance, snarkiness, mythology, and heart stopping suspense and action.

Warning: If you have not read the first book in the series, this review contains spoilers! You have been warned.

A substantial improvement from the first book. Ellie has her act more together in this book. She is actively looking for answers on her own. Her attitude in the first book about drove me batty but here she is more realistic in what she is doing.

She is still pissed at Collin for his betrayal, yet still drawn to him. Honestly, what she sees in him, I have no idea. Sexy good looks does no

Well…what can I say besides: I can’t even force myself to finish this book!

I liked the first one. The story and the idea are really good. Unfortunately ‘The Curse Breakers’ was a disappointment and a serious struggle for me. The first 50% of the book are basically a recap of book 1. That’s it- plain and simple. The writing style is okay, the characters are likable…However I was waiting for something interesting to happen (for hours)…It didn’t!!! So I’m giving up…

I have to preface this by saying that while I like paranormal romance, it's not something I seek out. The thing is, I used to love them. I think I just got burnt out on paranormal because everything seemed to have the same old theme. I love a good vampire story as much as the next girl, but there just seems to be only so many ways you can vary the story.

That's why this series by Denise Grover Swank is so refreshing. I

I enjoyed this installment marginally more than Book 1, mostly because the plot took precedence over Ellie's un-romantic romance with the insufferable Collin. The new male lead -- I guess there has to be one, because Ellie just can't help herself, in more than once sense of the phrase -- is professor David, who initially comes off as equally arrogant and insufferable. His redeeming qualities start to shine through soon enough, though I remain unconvinced by their too-soon mutual declarations of ...more

I was in complete turmoil all the way through this book...Don't get me wrong...It was a great book...It is just that what transpired in the pages of this book kept my stomach in knots...
Now, while I understood Ellie's anger and distrust toward Collin, I still really like him. But this is kind of jumping ahead...
Ok...there is so much to this story. Action-packed, filled with suspense; I was holding my breath the whole time waiting to see just what was going to happen to this little firecracker of
Great follow-up to the Curse Keepers.

This installment takes place right after the events of the Curse Keepers. And although Collin and Ellie managed to close the gate, unfortunately it wasn't enough. Ellie is in even more danger than before, both from the angry gods and also from Marino. Yes, he's still around, and yes, he still wants Ellie. Combine all of the above with the fact that Tom won't leave Ellie alone. He knows that there's something bigger going on and all of it has ties to Ellie, s

After having read and loved the first book in the Curse Keepers series, I was so happy to get a copy of this second book for review. It's been awhile since I've read the first, so I was afraid that I would be fuzzy on the details of the first book, but Denise has done a wonderful job of filling you in as to the events that happened at the end of the first book and she has done so where it didn't feel repetitive or like information overload.

Wow, I loved The Curse Breakers even more than Curse Keepers!
Starts off a little after the Curse Keepers ended, the emotional pulls the character have on your heart are so strong.
Ellie continues on a long journey to try to make things right by sending the monsters back to hell for good. In her journey she has so many obstacles but she has someone to help her.
Some complain on the situations of possible rape that almost happen. Yes some complain in reviews that this is horrible but also this is

*My Thoughts*

The Curse Breakers picks up several weeks after the end of The Curse Keepers. 23-year old Ellie Dare Lancaster is still coming to an understanding about what it means for her to be one of two Curse Keepers and also a very unique soul who has never been recycled, and who witnessed t

I was super excited to read the second book in the Curse Keepers series. I loved the first book. I thought it was so unique. How many times do you get to read a book about ancient Algonquin spirits that are tied together with the reappearance with the lost colony of Roanoke. This is the second series that I have read about the Roanoke colony and it is still a unique subject to me because both series are so different. (Roanoke Vanishing by
The Curse Breakers is a white knuckle read. Action intense from start to finish, I was on the edge of my seat wondering where Swank was taking me next.

Ellie Lancaster is the descendant of the lost Colony of Roanoke. She is the guardian that keeps the spirit realms separate from our world. Her chance meeting with Collin Dailey, the other guardian and descendant changed it all.

Now Ellie is fighting to keep the spirits at bay and her only hope is Dr. David Preston, lead specialist in the Native Ame

The Curse Breakers picks up right where The Curse Keepers left off. Ellie is left to deal with the consequences of Collin's actions. With Collin now out of the picture, Ellie is forced to figure out how to deal with the spirits on her own. As the spirits start wreaking havoc on the town, Ellie is desperately trying to discover Ahone's mark. Her time is running out and it's her only shot at protection.......Ellie seeks help from a college professor, David, who specializes

I was skeptical of the first book but thought I should try something I am not used to reading. I LOVED THIS SECOND BOOK! It got smart! The addition of this professor who not only is a hottie but really knows his history is exciting and somehow makes this story more believable. Ellie is a great man character and I enjoy going through her struggles as she tries to find her way in this new universe and new normal after meeting Collin.

When I finished the first book of The Curse Keepers series, I was on the fence about whether or not I was going to continue. When I saw THE CURSE BREAKERS come up on the review list, though, I picked it up without hesitation. For all my meh about the first book, I was intrigued about where the plot would go to pick it back up.

THE CURSE BREAKERS does a good job for a second book of jumping into the story while at the same time reminding the reader what came
I felt the writing here was lacking compared to the first book. I may be remembering the first one wrong, but here the dialogue especially just felt incredibly cheesy compared to its predecessor. I was also hoping since Collin and Ellie broke up, there would be little romance but of course we had to squeeze that in there. I felt that was unnecessary, but I definitely like David more than Collin. Collin always gave off this creepy vibe, which didn't go away in this book, and David seems to genuin ...more

My Thoughts: 4 Stars
I was a fan of book one in the series, Curse Keepers, so I knew I would enjoy a follow up book, but sometimes the sex scenes were just much too steamy. The author did manage to jam-pack the novel with a ton of native American history. It was no different with book two. Lots of history and steamy scenes. I could have done with a lot less steamy and more action. I know not everyone thinks along those lines.

I found the character of Collin wishy-washy. In book one he was a stron

There are no words to describe how much I love this book. This book goes into what happened after the curse has been broken. It also shows how Ellie has grown into her own person. Ellie is stronger than ever before, and with the help of a very handsome Englishman named David, she gets down to what she needs to do, closing that gate. In this book there are not only spirits chasing Ellie, but there are also two thugs, and a police officer

I just knew the second book would be even better than the first and I was not disappointed. In The Curse Breakers we get to learn so much more about the gods, the curse, and also how a certain "deal" is connected to Ellie in a big way I never saw coming. I love how strong Ellie is in this book, and how much she's grown. Her interactions with Collin are perfect and some of my very favorite moments. He deserves everything she dishes out to him, and I wouldn't want it any other way, yet I still fee ...more

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.

This is the second book in the Curse Keeper series. It is a continuation from the first book.

Ellie still has quite a bit of information to collect about what's happening around and to her. She definitely should have listened to the stories her dad passed along to her.

In addition she's battling her feelings for Colin and learning what type of evil he has surrounding him. Deciphering if he can really be trusted is a whole other matter.

Well, here I am again,stuck... trying to figure out how to put into words how much I love this series. Ellie - my hands down favorite heroine of all time. Her journey in this book brings out a fierceness that truly impresses me. Collin... well, it's Collin 'effin' Daily, the man you love to hate and kinda want to hate yourself for loving even more after this book. Oh, and did I mention David? *swoon* *sigh* David. Once you read it you'll get it. Ellie's journey to figure out her role in all of t ...more

It really bothers me that a story that relies on Native American Mythology and lore has only one character from that community— even more bothersome is that the author has purposely separated this particular person from that community for the purpose of characterization. In this book we continue to discuss Native American history and mythology from a separate white perspective using books and museums. The Author has decided that the character with the most knowledge about the history and communi ...more

Goodness-where to even start? This is hands down my favorite series of all times. I adore Ellie. I envy her character. She is strong and ready to risk it all for those who matter. I don't have words that adequately describe just how amazing book two was. My heart broke for Collin and Ellie. I mean...David's cool and charming and smart and ridiculously helpful and has a sexy British accent...but HE'S NOT COLLIN!!!!!! Ugh. I highly recommend this series above anything else. Was blessed by Denise to get to read this a little early.
I was NOT disappointed. The Curse continues to reek havoc, evil murderous animals loom around, a nosy cop, thugs, and a gorgeous British Prof.... All keep Ellie busy, not to mention, Collin Fucking Dailey and his continued secrets. How will Collin handle another man sniffing around Ellie, will Collin be there for her when and if she needs his help

Another huge success for Swank. I couldn't decide who I liked more, Collin or David. Either one helped her in the end. This book moved just as fast as the other and it continues Ellie's search for answers about her destiny and part of the curse. We have a newcomer, David who is a professor and helps her discover more about the village. I really can't say much else without giving away the plot. This is the second book in the series by the way. ...more

Whew! The Curse Breakers is one busy read. It’s fast-paced with a lot of surprising twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. It picks up where the previous book left us hanging with Ellie reeling in shock and trying to deal with the fallout of Collin’s actions. She still needs help but no longer trusting Collin, she looks elsewhere to get answers. She keeps coming up with more questions and time is running out.

I’m not a big history reader, however, I did find all the Native American folklore
