When Ronald Dellums arrived in Washington in 1971 to represent Oakland, California, in the House of Representatives, his radical activism had already earned him a place on Nixon's enemy list. When he retired in 1998-his radicalism still intact-he left a record of accomplishment that has made an indelible mark on our political landscape.

This book made me shed a tear within the first 30 pages of consumption. Although i am not Mr. Dellums, I have tried to serve the public both foreign and domestic. He is an inspiration!

I was very fortunate to see Ron Dellums when he came to speak to the social work students at my grad school. Dellums is a very funny, charismatic and inspirational speaker. I was already familiar with some of his life story from hearing him speak but enjoyed reading more about his life and work in depth. After reading his book, I wish more social workers were politicians!!
