A portable but comprehensive dictionary of American Sign Language contains fifteen hundred commonly used words and phrases, each illustrated and cross-referenced
I asked my dad to buy me an ASL dictionary, back in the day. He asked which one, and I told him I didn't know. He bought this one.
The signs the book has are fine, and they're explained and illustrated well enough. But it doesn't have enough signs. "Concise" is an understatement. It doesn't include words like "mountain" or even "dictionary." ... A dictionary that doesn't include the word "dictionary."
I'm looking for a new ASL dictionary. Once I have a new one, this one will be donated.
Some of the words are hard for me to make out how to create, but that's probably inevitable, as all the books I've read about ASL are like that. Sometimes, you just need a video. But otherwise, this is an excellent book, very thorough, with pictures that have unique individuals making the signs, when they could have done generic people.
It's a dictionary, so there's not much that can be said about it as a review. [return]The layout is acceptable and considering I'm most likely using it to verify my own knowledge, I can't really call it out on any errors.
