An adorable adaptation of the animated feature of the same name, including sheet music to "Never Was a Feather" and "Imaginary Friends" at the end of the book. This was one of my favourite books as a young reader, though a few things leap out of me as an older reader:
- Terry's art teacher scolds him for painting a picture of a house and landscape made out of pasta. WHAT. Art is about IMAGINATION—is she Willow's art teacher? - Same for his piano teacher, getting mad over Terry saying his imaginary duck friend made up the original song he played. Why is that such a big deal? Musicians can be dead serious about music despite how their personal lives are going! - It feels so weird to me in retrospect that Puff's clothing is EMBEDDED IN HIS SKIN. :O - I love how the story describes creativity, that Terry is the only person who hears a song in all of the sounds in the world, and no one else will be able to hear it unless he translates it into music. Absolutely what creation is all about! (And sad that non-creative types can't see how they're hurting the world in taking away the ability for creative types to do what only they can do, especially when creators are forced to do non-creative work in order to earn money to stay alive...)
Recommended for fans of the show... or budding musicians!
