WordPress MultiSite 101

Rate this book
If you only knew how many times Andrea and I sat and complained “There should be an (updated) ebook!” you’d wonder why it took us so long. Setting up a new WordPress install is pretty easy. Setting up Multisite requires just a little more savvy, and the information is all over the place. This ebook strives to pull it all together, explain you what skills you need to get started, and move you to the next running your own Network. Think of it as a basic tutorial in running your own Multisite.

I found this super useful. There's so much out there online about multisite, this weird combination of repetitive and contradictory. After getting a bit frustrated with that and bored with testing each button to see what actually happened when I pressed it, I bought this book to find out what the various settings set and get a general overview of how it works as a whole together. I wanted to step back and see the forest for the trees and it did that extremely well. It's short and clear and I recommend it if you want to use multisite.

Caveat: the book is slightly out of date, domain mapping is available now out of the box (see https://halfelf.org/2014/mapping-doma...) and there is some other stuff but y'know, this is the way with software and it's all documented online. Here's a link that pops up Make Core posts on Multisite changes for WP 4.4 up:

The book was well written, but I felt it left out some very critical information. There were certain steps and procedures that were not clearly laid out.
