Absolutely wonderful children's bed time story. The artwork is dreamy and beautiful. I love how the text rhymes. Besides the general nice sleepy mood, it's also educational. Really 10/10 children's book, and it's enjoyable for me as well. :-)

Thank you so much to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC to read & review. These are my honest opinions.

Written in rhyming couplets, Where do Ocean Creatures Sleep at Night, talks to us about the different characteristics of ocean creatures, such as what they eat and any predators that influences where they will sleep at night from the sting ray hidden on the seabed floor to the parrotfish and its mucus cocoon and the great white shark that need to swim whilst it sleeps.

The illustrations are striking they make the book a joy to turn each page. I particularly liked the blended colours which gave it a mystical feel. I really loved the otters.

This fun and informative book covers subjects of camouflage and safety and is full of fascinating facts. Would be a useful classroom resource for a topic on Habitats and Humans and Other Animals.

The rhyming prose is well thought out and planned as well as delightful, but the wonderful illustrations by Ruth E. Harper are delightful, imaginative, detailed, and colorful which makes the words so much more fun.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Charlesbridge via NetGalley. Thank you!

I received this book as an ARC via NetGalley and am so happy I did. I read it to my kids before bed and they loved it! The pictures were beautiful and they enjoyed pointing out the various animals. I even learned a thing or two about how some of them sleep. The writing was well put together and flowed nicely with the rhymes. I am thankful for opportunity to involve my kiddos with the review!

Where do Ocean Creatures Sleep at Night?

Maybe in the open... maybe near a reef?

Under rocks, or burrowed in the sand...

One of my favorites is the sea horse, and I've learned something today. They hold on to a plant or a coral with their tails so they don't drift away...

The double pages with the dolphins or the ones with the whales are a marvel to look at. But the smaller illustrations are inspiring as well, like the page with the otters, or the other with the turtle, or the one with the parrotfish...I love the artwork so much this is a beautiful series and each page looks like a painting.

It's serene, makes me miss the ocean, and it is perfect to wind down before going to sleep.

I love water in all states, animals, and nature. We should care for all.

Sleep is important, no matter what wonderful critter you may be.

To give appropriate feedback on Where Do Ocean Creatures Sleep At Night?, I read the book to our 2-year-old son:

The book "Where Do Ocean Creatures Sleep At Night?" quickly became a favorite after just one reading. Initially, my son wasn't paying attention, but as I read on, the illustrations and rhymes caught his attention. He even asked me to reread it (twice). We both started to understand the rhythm and flow of the book and were able to make a song that my son was nodding along to.

I really enjoyed reading this book by Simmons & Simmons because it presented a lot of factual information in an easy to understand and entertaining manner. The book's overall structure kept my son interested, and I even learned a thing or two about sea creatures myself.

My son enjoyed Harper's illustrations, naming several sea life he recognized.

I highly recommend Where Do Ocean Creatures Sleep At Night? for parents whose children are interested in ocean life, enjoy books that rhyme, or for those who want to add some non-fiction to their children's mini-libraries. I'm definitely planning to buy Where Do Ocean Creatures Sleep At Night? as soon as it is available.

Where Do Ocean Creatures Sleep At Night is a nonfiction book about ocean creatures’ way of living. From this book, you will find out about their characteristics and of course, how they sleep.

Because this book is a nonfiction book, I did not expect that the writing would be so beautifully engaging. I thought it would be straight-up to tell the reader some facts about ocean creatures, but apparently, it was not! The Simmonses use rhyme and their choice of words is beautiful. This book does not feel like nonfiction at all. It feels like a tale that you can read to your children at bedtime.

I highly recommend this book. It is not only informative but also entertaining, and the illustration is so pleasing to look at.

I'm a teacher for children 3-6 and found this book lovely! The images are realistic and really pretty, which I think children will enjoy, plus the information is really interesyand engaging. The balance of image-text is really adequate for this age group and I love a nice book with rhymes! I think they always add something special since they are hearing other forms of language.
I really loved this book and definitely will buy it in print to add it to my school and personal library.

Thank you to Steven J. Simmons, Clifford R. Simmons, Charlesbridge, and NetGalley for the ARC.

This book was cute and very informative. The artwork was beautiful. I read it with my child (5) and they liked it but it was a little hard to keep their attention towards the end because the book was a little long. I’m going to try reading it again at bedtime. All in all, I would definitely recommend this to others!!

Children will easily follow this adorable nonfiction picture book! While the title indicates the focus is on where the animals sleep, the information does not stop there. Before the sleeping place is revealed, each creature gets a little rhyme informing the reader of something of the creature's nature. The sleeping place also gets its own rhyme making this a great book for little ones!

My kids always have questions like the ones answered in the book. Where do octopi hide when they sleep? Can dolphins still breathe when they sleep? How long do animals sleep? I didn't know all the facts in the book, so the authors dove deep to find some facts not commonly known by the general population. The illustrations were beautiful and very peaceful. I think reading this to a two or three year old might be a stretch unless they were very highly interested in the subject. I think the length and animals facts might be more appropriate for a five year old, and I know my ten year old animal lover would love it, too.

The Where Do Creatures Sleep At Night series is an educational, fascinating, rhyming, whimsical, transportative, captivating, factual, and beautiful series! Pictured is Where Do Creatures Sleep At Night, Where Do Big Creatures Sleep At Night, and Where Do Ocean Creatures Sleep At Night. This phenomenal trio is a truly a must read! I have fallen in love with this gorgeous series! Each book has rhyming text, fun animal facts, and jaw dropping illustrations. While they are non-fiction, I did not feel like I was learning facts. I was completely immersed in the story and world the author has created. I could not recommend this series more!

👦🏻reviews: this is such a stress reliever to read especially during short month days in school. While taking a short break from my schoolwork, reading this beautiful images and colorful pictures makes the book fascinating and fun. My mom said when I was barely kindergarten I used to ask her how the ocean animals sleep and could they drown? These questions were answered when I went to elementary school, but this is a perfect book for the early students who are looking for answers and interested to know more. It offers plenty of answers to questions and they will know how turtles, fishes and seahorses slept through the night. It is a stunning book.

In rhyming stanzas, the Simmons father and son authors tell of some of the different ways that ocean animals rest (not all of them actually sleep). From stingrays that burrow in the sand to octopus that rest in holes or hideaways amongst rocks, young readers will discover the sometimes surprising ways that ocean creatures rest or sleep. Seahorses use their prehensile tales to hang on to something while they doze, while walruses can sleep on ice or while floating on top of the water. Young animal lovers will be fascinated by the variety of animals and the variety of ways they find to rest. It's also an important reminder that most living creatures need to rest or sleep at sometime. Whether sleeping with part of the brain still awake like a dolphin or sleeping in snatches like a sea turtle, or resting while cruising like a great white shark, children are likely to find lots of fun facts to share with their family and friends. Ruth Harper's lovely watercolor illustrations are relaxing and wonderfully complement the poetic text. While the text doesn't read out loud as smoothly as I'd like, it's still nicely done. This book would be great for teachers to use in class or parents to read with their young children going to bed. Lovely and informative all in one nice package.

A beautifully illustrated non-fiction book about our friends under the sea. So many really fascinating facts about sea creatures that I bet you didn’t know. For instance, did you know octopus sleep in holes and can change color to blend in better with its surroundings while it sleeps? This book will make you appreciate how nature has given sea creatures special traits to keep them safe while they do something so simple as sleeping.

Destined to become a bedtime-story favorite, this father-and-son authorial effort is sure to charm and inform budding naturalists among the preschool set. Marine creatures furry, scaly, and slippery are all represented here, their sleep habits explained in cadenced rhyme and accompanied by irresistibly colorful, true-to-life paintings by Ruth Harper. A lively hommage to our ocean animal neighbors, eminently suitable for daytime or nighttime sharing.

This is a fun and informative book about animal facts you might not have ever thought to ask. You can bet, though, that kids ask such questions. they are answered well by the co-authors ands the illustrator, providing introductions to some potentially unknown creatures and others that are quickly recognized. The text is factual and relayed in rhymed lines, while the illustrations extend understanding and also reveal complex habitats that few are ever likely to see in person.
