Rourke #1

Omega Society Auction: Episode One

Rate this book
an alternate cover edition can be found here

When the alien alphas arrived on Earth, omega-compatible men weren’t given a choice in mating with them. After a long and troubled war, Earth brought down the harem towers and exiled the alien lords to the moon where they rule from afar.

Things have calmed down in recent history; the powerful alphas seek mates who will submit themselves voluntarily. But who would sell themselves into slavery? Who would want to become a breeder?

Rourke’s terminally ill mother needs a cure that’s only accessible to the very rich. An omega auction can pay for it.

Review for all 4. Grabbed this as a freebie and it had some interesting ideas but didn’t stick the landing for me. Quite a few editing issues had me rereading some sentences which was distracting.

Background
Alpha alien overlords had taken over earth to improve things due to a protective nature and the power of deadly telekinesis and advanced technology, and undid climate change and things like that. Basically seemed to reference that whole totalitarian Superman thing of taking over earth to stop us from hurting each other with free will. It references Superman a few times so this may have been the inspiration. But also they emit a bunch of horny pheromones and susceptible humans are basically alien roofied which was NOT GOOD. Humans rebel, chase aliens to the moon.

Aliens have traveled very far to find a species that can be genetically and medically modified to become omegas and now basically buy them at auction (people offer themselves up willingly if they like space or want money) so that people can be modified to get alien preggers.

Unfortunately, a lot of worldbuilding is left incomplete beyond that basic premise and all the humans hating anyone who does the space baby procedure. MC is a bland sadboi who tries to game the system and eventually falls in love with a kind but overbearing alpha alien dude. Nothing is thrilling or intriguing or spicy etc. there’s a lot of family drama of his bestie and family on hating him and treating him bad via the internet.

Picked this up as a freebie from Amazon and I have to say that offering it for nothing was a good marketing strategy (damn it)...because what we get was just enough to hook me and make me want to read more.

The premise is an interesting combination of the Alpha/Omega trope, combined with Aliens & a Dystopian/Science Fiction setting and an ultimate Mpreg storyline. I think I would have rated it higher had it been the whole story and not just the exposition and intro/meeting of our MCs. But like I said, I'm intrigued by what has been explored and the characterization. I also think that - when it finally comes around, whatever book that it's in - the sex is gonna be explosive. Looking forward to that!

Intriguing start to a serial!

This was a decent sci-fi, alien dystopian omega eres story. No mpreg or steam yet. That’s for the next installments on the moon! The freaking MOON!!

Not up to the level of her “space cats” series, but definitely enjoyable!

My rec? It’s short and goes down easy!

Damn shame the book is not edited and the ideas not a little bit more thought-out, because this would've been a fantastic story. But as it is, it's mediocre with a predictable plot line and this will span through another 3 books, so I'm guessing it's going to be the same thing over and over again with little to no romance. I hope I'm wrong, I really do.

🟢 Omegaverse
🟣 Earth/Moon
🔵 Omega breeding program
🟡 Alphas live on the moon and have historically enslaved humans, but were banished, although they still rule them
🟠 A bit of a size difference
🌶️ No sex yet, pheromones and some kissing, scenting

Rourke is the guy who has a sick mom that doesn't have good healthcare, so he's trying to figure out what to do to prevent her from dying. He signs up for the Omega program, where he's set to live on the Moon with the Alpha of his choosing.

Rourke finally meets his Alpha and Zachri is fantastic. He's tall, handsome, serious, loves cats, has fantastic long blue hair and since Rourke isn't taking any suppressants because he's desperate to get pregnant asap, Zachri and Rourke kind of break all the rules and try to get together the same day they meet.

This is Zachri. I just know he's going to be the best thing in this series.

Now, from this point on I have no idea what actually went wrong. The attraction was there, the desire was there and I thought that was a favourable outcome, what more could they want?
But apparently Zachri and Rourke have to go through so many pointless obstacles until they can finally be together or have consensual sex - even if they want to do it right now, they can't! - that they eventually get broken up and Rourke tries to fight to stay in the game while Zachri as an Alpha apparently doesn't have as much power to just take Rourke away, since everything's already signed and sealed.

Rourke keeps mentioning his sick mother all the time and I honestly hope that doesn't continue in the next installment. He's saying how he'll provide the healthcare and the grandson to his mother, but doesn't say what he wants or how he feels about his situation or about Zachri. I thought Rourke liked him but he turned on Zachri so quick that all the chemistry that I thought was there, flew right out the window.

I don't have high hopes at all, as a matter of fact I think this series is going to be a trainwreck, but I'm going to read it anyway.

First of the series, with interesting blurb that's the reason I give this book a try even the alien part is not my things.

With that way to short story with not enough things to explore, I found that this book was totally a meh. The fact that this story was actually have a chance to be something was abruptly cut by the VERY cliffy ending. The author SHOULD WARNED the readers at first about this so this story didn't end with HUGE mood killer!

There are some interesting story kernels here but a lot of it gets bogged down in worldbuilding and administrative details. Some parts with Rourke's reaction to the alpha, and the alpha's reaction to him, read as a little unclear to me, so I didn't feel like I fully understood how things like pheromones or alpha/omega relationships work in this world. I might try another episode, but I'm not hooked on this story.

Reminds me somewhat of Samantha Cayto's excellent 'Alien Slave Masters' series (but WHY with aliens that look 100% human apart from their eye and hair colour..? Meh!) The tension build-up part of the story made a good intro episode to this first of four books story. Onto to episode 2!

Too short

Way too short to be developed properly, and we don't even get to see the characters together other than one really jacked up encounter. While it's possible that the books continue in 85% shorts, I'm not impressed with the writing enough to read the next part. Also, present tense is a great way throw this reader out of the story, so, well done there.

Totally entertaining. Not too swampy with world building but interesting premise, somewhat predictable alpha but I binged the series in several days and that speaks for itself.

I seldom read serials. This one I picked up since the blurb looked intriguing, with a diffidence that solidified into mixed feelings as I sampled its bland writing (entailing a dozen or so typos), barely there descriptive and evocative values most conspicuous in the few sci-fi passages (for example, the Alpha's powers when he attempts to mate Rourke in the moon garden could hardly have been more confusingly couched into words; the same thing obtains for his pheromons and the strange illness the human fails prey to before meeting with him, while the space travels are not described at all), general lack of depth, and paltry world-building forever taking too much for granted (very many things, structures, sets of patterns, and so on, are hurled in the reader's face as if they were obvious despite not making sense in the absence of either a detailed exposition of the background or a longer initiation to this strange universe). Hopefully the second part will assume less and focus on the Alphas' society on the moon as well as the characters of Rourke and Zachri, for I completed this instalment with the unpleasant feeling that I barely knew the human, even though he is the narrator (in present tense, which jars a lot), while the Alpha remained an enigma. Of Zachri, we at least get a description, vague though it is; such a luxury Mrs Glass dispensed altogether with in the case of Rourke, which confirms my impression that he is but a cipher, the token human Omega only there as a peg on which to hang the plot. Two stars and a half, rounded down because the abundant, all too prevailing defects of this story overwhelm its few qualities.

I'm hoping this series brings Zachri's thoughts to the forefront for as it reads the first book in this series makes little to no sense. You have the omega Rourke up for auction for an enormous amount of money and when he is eventually sold,we have the handler of the sale ominously cockblocking the buyer from sampling the goods for whom he has paid for at every turn.

The sale has occurred following stringent procedures and both the seller and the buyer are wildly attracted to one another. The alien Alpha appears to be unconsciuosly leaking pheromones of which the omega appears to be highly susceptible to.This unsanctioned attraction seems to be in violation of some rule the handler has stated which brings about the confusion that permeates through out the book hence my desire for the blue headed alien to have a voice.

The blurb of the book highlights that the auction has occurred so that an alien Alpha may purchase an omega to bear an heir which is unlikely to come about if he is prevented from touching the omega, whom he has purchased.

Hopefully the second book would explain fully Stephane's bizarre resistance to the mating other than following some strange protocal.

REVIEWED @ RECKLESS INDULGENCE | OF THE WRITTEN WORD

WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE! A free book that's actually REALLY good.

Literally my only complaint is two things:

One... it was never made clear whether or not our MC is actually gay/likes guys or not, is bi, or is straight but for whatever reason is gay-for-you to his Alpha. That sorta... irked me a little, but wasn't that big a deal.

Two... and THIS WAS THE BIG DEAL ANNOYANCE... THAT FREAKING ABRUPT "ENDING". A warning to all who start this ACTUALLY REALLY AMAZING SERIES: This is more like a SERIAL than a SERIES. Meaning the book ends like almost like a chapter would and then the next book picks up where you left off. Had I known that, I might not have started reading this series (because I was just looking for another fore-day morning read to keep me company until I dozed for a couple hours and then went off to work). I HAD NO INTENTION OF READING A BOOK/SERIES THAT WOULD LEAVE ME BEGGING FOR MORE AND ANNOYED THAT I COULDN'T RIGHT AWAY (cuz no money til Friday sadface) I'll definitely be coming back for the rest of this series come the weekend, but for now I have to suffer through with that ANNOYING CLIFFHANGER (ughhhhuuuguuguguh)

Thus, why this book only gets 4 stars instead of 5 from me. CUZ THAT ENDING

Mpreg ~ Sci-Fi ~ Romance

4 short episodes ═ one full-length novel.

The Plot: Alien alphas have taken over Earth, and enslaved the human race to have babies. These so-called powerful alphas have been exiled to the moon, and are forced to follow strict human laws.

So much for being the advanced species that won the war. Based on the story, the humans are really the ones in charge.

The writing is choppy and simplistic. The story bogged down by all the rules, regulations, procedures, paperwork, exams, evaluations and laws. It was not fun to read. At all. I didn't expect to read a tedious how-to breeder manual. There's little romance, and from what I read in the reviews, it doesn't improve much in the next three episodes.

The alien alphas are described as "exactly like humans, with wildly dyed hair and eyes that reveal them to be creature-ish and otherworldly." The alpha in this story has blue hair. Other alphas have hair colors such as yellow, pink or purple. Minimal descriptions overall. There's no description of the human omega.

The human MC decided to become a breeder to save his mother, who's dying of cancer. Being a breeder will get her the healthcare she needs. He's anxious to get pregnant due to his mother's declining health.

This is impeded by the law that says the alpha can't touch the omega for 8 months. How ridiculous! 😤 The alpha is physically restrained and held at gunpoint, for touching the omega before he's allowed to. It's obvious that things are going to be dragged out for as long as possible.

I want the alphas I read about, to actually BE alphas (not in name only). The powerful aliens have been neutered, and accept being treated like second-class citizens.

Interesting start to a series. In a society where Alpha's are alien invaders and human's males are omega. Captivity is real but frowned upon so it's evolved to actions of self voluntary applications to become omega's and move to a different planet. Rourke is desperate for funds that will help ease and cure his mother's cancer. He secretly applies to be an omega and leave his home planet to be auctioned off to alphas. But the road to becoming an omega isn't simple. Any indication Rourke is applying for anything but true interest will get his application rejected. So Rourke plays up the part. Zachri is his first pick and the alpha who bids the most for him. Rourke needs to impregnated as soon as he can so his mother can get the care she needs. His first meeting with Zachri doesn't end well and his second one a little better. Officials interfere to make sure Rourke is receiving all his rights and is being treated right.

Eh.. I was disappointed.

There was ZERO chemistry between the guys who are supposed to get together... if there was chemistry, I didn’t feel it AT ALL. In fact, it felt super awkward and unappealing.

This one was just weird all around. It sounded exciting to me, but there just isn’t any real feeling in there, not much emotion. I don’t feel sympathetic for the main character and I definitely don’t care if the “mating” works out.. overall I’m just very un inspired by this first portion of the story.

So, this is only Part One of a single book in 4 parts. The equivalent of the first couple introductory chapters. Not a full novella. Not a fan of this sketchy publishing method.

I mean, the premise intrigued me to pick it up, but after finishing... we still essentially only have the premise. We don't meet the partner, so there is no way to know if they have any chemistry. It's just the set-up.

I'm never sure what to do with "episodic" novels (Charles Dickens would be so proud, though), so I suppose I'll go ahead and review each by itself. This first feels a bit like the first act in a play: setting the scene, providing the context, introducing the main characters. We have Rourke, the Everyman character who is doing his insufficient 9 to 5 and caring for his mother, dying of cancer. And then we have the world around him; aliens have come and decided Earth is a prime breeding ground, so after some wars there's an understanding that humans who want that can have it.

It is so deeply human to write sci-fi in which the fear of aliens is not them wanting to kill us but wanting to fuck us and we get weird about it.

Glass toes the line between showing and telling the reader about this world, but for the most part errs on the showing side and manages to pack a lot of worldbuilding into this first episode. We get the visceral hatred of the "alien overlords" and the deep shame of being someone who carries the gene that can get developed into being a bearing omega (I like that there's so much pseudo-science happening rather than hand-wavey "well this is A/B/O but don't worry about how). The aliens are briefly introduced at the end and manage to have that Hitchcockian mystery--you are more concerned about how much you don't see. It's a strong start to an interesting story, even if the episodic nature means it just ends abruptly as Rourke goes to the moon. Honestly, this has the feel of some of the books and films from the 1920s and 30s about space travel with the oddly fantastical edge to it.

I also love love that this puts toxic masculinity front and center in terms of what, exactly, drives most people to hate the idea of omega "breeders," and am very much looking forward to how Glass rips into that mess that gets into so much mpreg about "oh no I will need to be dainty and protected and girly and how ever shall I give up my manliness so fully" nonsense.

Become able to carry an Alien Alpha's baby to save your mom? Is this a question?

This is the start of a wonderful 4 part serial. I loved it. I guarantee you will want to read the other 3 episodes as soon as possible. Luckily, you can get the next one before you finish each book. Eileen has created a unique world, an Earth taken over by alien alphas. Now populating the moon, the alphas need humans to volunteer to become human omegas, able to bear the alpha's children. But there is much misinformation put there, from the time when humans were forcibly taken. Rourke needs money for his mother's cancer treatment. He makes the hard decision to place himself in the Omega auction, hoping to get a nice alpha. He gets one, but he and Zachri will face challenges to get their HEA.
This serial explores not only alien differences, but how ingrained prejudices can taint our lives. Come. Join Rourke & Zachri as they learn each other's cultures, cement their trust, face betrayal, and find hope and forgiveness. Read all 4 episodes in order. Time. Well. Spent!
This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.

To be the perfect omega, he can't take his upbringing with him. He can't carry the anger of the enslavement and atrocities in their history, which means he can't be a citizen of his city anymore. He has to fully, wholeheartedly join in with the new government in the moon.

The idea of this book was a good one - alien alphas, humans-to-omegas, the whole auction idea! I liked Rourke's backstory and how he If this book could have a few of its ideas more fully fleshed out, and a thorough do-over with an editor, I think it could be an easy 4-5 star novella!

"So, he's the winner, huh?" Rourke says when they quiet down, gesturing at the bar on the very left. The accompanying portrait is small, but Rourke makes out straight blue hair and a serious expression.

I look forward to seeing where the next installments take us. Rourke and Zachri's interactions so far have been heavily regulated, and I think in the next book we might see more progress there. I do hope Rourke gets a HEA, despite being in this for all the wrong reasons!

This book totally caught me off guard, in the best way possible! Seriously, I couldn't put it down. It's one of those reads where you're so engrossed in the story that you barely notice the time passing. In this part the author focused on the preparation, initial struggle and arrival, kept me hooked from beginning to end.

What I loved most was the protagonist's unwavering dedication to his mother. He's not just talk—he actually follows through with everything he says/wants to do, no matter how tough things get. That level of commitment was nice to see. Characters often aren’t tough enough for that level of self sacrificing which makes them less believable.

I really enjoyed world-building in this book. The author did a great job creating a place that felt real and interesting. The side characters were also really nice—they added a lot of fun to the story.

I also appreciated that there wasn't any smut in this part of the book. It was nice to focus on the story and characters without any distractions.

Now that I've finished this book, I'm already itching for the next one. I can't wait to see where the story goes from here!

Omega Society Auction: Episode One is the first in the Omega Society Auction series by Eileen Glass. I absolutely love, love, love this author’s Pykh series and thought I would explore some of her other works while waiting for the next ‘space cats’ book. This is the first installment of a serial, so it is quite short and mostly provides some world building and an intro to our human MC, Rourke. We also get an explanation of the Omega Society and some backstory about the aliens and how they feel about human omegas (male baby makers). We also get an all too brief glimpse at our alien MC, Zachri. This installment ends before everything really gets going, but it did the job of getting me invested in what happens next. I’m looking forward to reading the next 3 episodes.
