This is a re-read for me, and I just can't say enough good things about the Night Watch series. Night Watch is not your normal bail bond company, and Zane is not your average bounty hunter. Night Watch hunts the paranormals and others in New Orleans, and Zane isn't human, not by a long shot.
He's closing in on his bounty, but the house he's at suddenly bursts into flames. When he hears a scream he rushes in and finds a beautiful woman huddling in the middle of the fire. He saves her, and there's just something about her, a certain fragility. He doesn't want to leave her.
Jana is an ignitor-a firestarter. She set the fire at the house to kill Zane's bounty, but also to attract Zane's attention. She's good and playing weak and helpless, and Zane can't resist helping her. But when he finds out she's not an innocent victim, he can't let her go.
Zane might be a big bad demon, and a bounty hunter, but there's a lot he doesn't know about what's going on in his city. Jana knows the score. She's trying to save Zane, even if it doesn't seem like it. She's also trying to stay alive, and that isn't going to be easy, even with Zane and Night Watch's help.
This series is what hooked me on Cynthia Eden's writing. I miss Paranormal Romance like this. The plot is well thought out and well developed. The characters are interesting and intriguing. The world is so easy to slip into that you don't feel like you need a class on the rules. Each book can be read out of order or as a standalone, but why would you want to? ;)
My favorite line in this book, "She could rescue herself. In the fairy tales, she wasn't the trapped princess. She was the fire-breathing dragon, and she'd burn anyone who got in her way."
Each of the books in the Night Watch series has been freaking amazing but, without a doubt, Face Your Demon is the most intense and mind scrambling book of them all.
Zane was one wickedly fierce paranormal hunter and Jana was his perfect match. There was a time or two that I wondered just how these two would ever come together despite the white hot flames of their chemistry. Their story was delightfully more angsty than expected and I loved every moment of it.
The danger and drama was the perfect background to this couple’s relationship development. Secondary characters were as much a part of the feel of this story as the main characters. This pulled me in from the beginning and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Oh Zane, why did I wait so long to read your story? The chemistry between Jana and Zane is scorching and Cynthia Eden picked the perfect woman for him. He wouldn't have been happy with anyone 'normal' and Jana Carter was anything but with her unique Ignitor abilities. This was a really fast-paced book! Only wish I'd read it sooner :)
First off, I have to say, you know I'm a Cynthia Eden fangirl, because I shelled out danged near $10 for this book on kindle. I don't do that for just anyone lol I usually have a strict limit of $6.99 for a kindle book (on principal lol), but for CE, I'll make an exception.
I'm glad that I did.
I've loved Zane since the first Night Watch story. I mean, how can you NOT?? Deliciously sexy, honorable, alpha, demon hybrid? *fans self* Whoooo..
I'm trying not to have any spoilers (what?? I can do it! Really!), so I'll just leave the synopsis up to others or the book blurb :)
What worked for me: *The length. OF THE BOOK! Gah. Get your minds out of the gutter! lol There was a time when it slowed down in the middle and I honestly thought the book was wrapping up only to discover *BAM* book was only half over :D I love when that happens, because it's almost like two books in one. *The whole bit with the witch at the compound and the powers thing... that I really wish I could say more about but dangit I'm not gonna spoil y'all with this one. Really. I'm not..... dangit. *Zane. Just. Zane *dreamy sigh* And the shower. And that he was the ONE PERSON she never had to worry about hurting with her fire (what?! that's not a spoiler -- that was in previous books!) *The chemistry was hottttt between the hero and heroine. I loved that our heroine wasn't all squeaky-clean innocent, and I loved that even while Zane was trying to fight his attraction to his bounty, he was falling in way more than just lust with her. *That scene in the basement. Oh good lord I do love me a dangerous man.
What didn't work for me: *I was quite sad at some of the deaths in the book :( I know, I know, that's on purpose, but one of the victims, I was really hoping would get a HEA :( *I didn't feel like everything was quite as resolved at the end as I typically like.. And not just in a hey-I-bet-I-know-who-the-next-book-is-about way either. I don't really know how to explain it -- I can't really put my finger on it to be honest -- something just felt.. unresolved.
So, overall? 4 3/4 Stars, but you can totally round up to 5 if you want :)
I had a hard time getting into this story. Although I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and I like Zane, his relationship with Jana bothered me. Throughout the book, Jana is hiding things about herself and how she feels while Zane (the demon) seems to be willing to make an effort. I understand that each couple gets their own storyline, however I would have liked to see more crossover from the couples of the first two books.
Sexy hybrid demon beast Zane Wynter can do with few others can. He has skills that he lets no one see or even feel. Jana becomes a target for him to take down, but then she becomes much more. There are other forces and mysteries playing the game here. Who can be trusted becomes a game that could cost one or both of them their life.
Now I need to know where the story is for Katerina and Tony. There is something there. I just can feel it.
Intrigue, personal agendas, a firestarter, a demon, an FBI agent, a clandestine organization, an emerging romance and the usual cast of the Night Watch Agency come together in this third book in Eden's Night Watch series. As is typical with Eden's books, this can be read as a stand alone or as part of the series. Eden seamlessly brings in characters and situations from previous books giving just enough information as is necessary to make sure the reader isn't lost but without interrupting the flow of the story. And an involved and busy story it is, making for a quick read with some surprises along the way. I couldn't put it down and even better I wasn't able to anticipate most of the surprises.
Jana, the female lead, is quite the little actress. She is also an ignitor on the run from the police, the FBI and now the Night Watch Agency. And when he catches up to her, she has the serious hots for the hero of the story.
Kane, the hero, is a sexy hybrid demon bounty hunter for the Agency who was introduced in the first book of the series and reappeared as a secondary character in the second book where he faced and killed an ignitor. Here he takes the lead, again facing an ignitor but this time, as much as she deceives him, he can't help being attracted to her and his body wakes up whenever she is near.
For those familiar with this series, the sex in this may seem a little tame when compared with the first two books. There is a shower scene, a containment cell scene and oral sex. I'd rate this somewhere between steamy and hot or a 2.5 on a scale from 1-4.
There was continuing interaction between some secondary characters here which began in earnest in the second book, which I hope is foreshadowing for the basis of a future book. I thoroughly enjoyed this and hope there will be many more books in this series.
Zane is a hunter for Night Watch, an organizations that tracks down the criminals the normal police force can’t handle. Zane is also a Demon hybrid. He is sent to hunt down the Ignitor, Jana, who is wanted by local law enforcement and the FBI for setting deadly fires in New Orleans. But Zane discovers that all is not as it seems and the fire between them burns hot. While trying to discover the truth behind Jana’s past though they discover the odious Project Perseus, a group set up to take out all paranormals period. Can Zane convince Jana to stop running and can they take out Perseus before Perseus takes them out?
Eternal Flame was a sizzling read, just as good as the first book in the series. Eden gives you kick-ass action and nail biting suspense coupled with smokin’ romance and strong lead characters in the well-written world of Night Watch. And the side characters are extremely likable and intriguing as well! Jana is the perfect balance of tough & sweet for a heroine and Zane is all alpha hero. A definite Night Watch favorite, Eternal Flame is a real page-turner that I flew through!
Good story line, lots going on. I enjoyed Jana and Zane both individually and together. I liked the idea of having a supernatural that can remove powers and "give" them to someone else. That was different. I liked that Jana embraced her fire and realized it was an integral part of her. It was nice Dee and Erin made appearances. I think the most disappointing thing is I was hoping Pak and Tony would have their own stories too. The way this ended I felt the setup was there. I looked at the next (and last) book, but nope, neither are listed as a character (in fact, I'm not sure how the Night Watch universe plays into it from reading the blurb).
Loved it! This one was my favorite so far. Zane was a great hero with his own tortured past. I knew his book would be great. I really hope that Tony gets a book soon.
This last book in the series delivers by wrapping things up, but also somehow introduces two separate shadowy organizations. Lots going on here, and oodles of fire!
Zane is one of the only main Night Watch characters who has not been paired off. He’s got control issues, and previous books seemed to point to him getting together with the resident witch, but that has fizzled by the start of this one. On a hunt, he ends up meeting Jana. She plays the victim really well and even manages to pull one over on him. Things go sideways after they realize that Jana is the fire wielding magic user who has become top priority for Night Watch.
Surprise - these two have attraction that somehow ends up with them handcuffed together, on the run from the good/bad guys, and dealing with their issues. A highlight of this book? The mundane cop who helps these guys. He has grown on me over the last few books and here he is truly a star. I’m sad we don’t get to see his story play out here, but either way he is a great addition. While there is a lot of death, destruction, and damage, we end this one with a concrete wrap-up and a good happy ending. These were a good set of books for the paranormal minded to check out.
if book two hadnt happened, i would have enjoyed this one more. but bc i'll be slaying you was sooo long and mehh, this one was pulled down with it. its not necessarily that the tempo is slower.. but idk theres something missing. its not exciting or fun. too much time is spent on whatever side story the author is feeding us when in reality i couldnt care less. id have liked to see more focus on the main couple before they fall in love. or at least WHILE or AFTER they fall in love. we barely get anything, all of a sudden they just love each other so much they would die for one another... bruh
I loved this book and each one on this series. Loved the teamwork of Night Watch and stayed on edge wondering who the leader of the group Perseus was. Loved how quickly Zane falls for Jana, that he can handle her fire. Loved that they were better together and each saw the good in each other. Loved their happy ever after and I highly recommend this book.
Zane is on the hunt for igniter never expecting when he found her she would change his life. Jana is on the run and on the hunt every turn she has to be careful or she maybe caught. Everything changes when she meets a demon named Zane. Her plans change and so does his.
I thought the synopsis seemed familiar so checked my kindle but couldn’t find this book already read so I purchased it. Only then to discover it has been released under a different title and it was one of the early paperback books I’d actually bought. I still enjoyed it but these details need to be more obvious before you purchase.
Each book can be read as a standalone, but the characters grow and become more rounded with each story. I highly recommend reading each and reading them in order. Zane was an amazing hero and Jana was a product of her past, but together, they burned. Great action, mystery and romance.
This is an exciting paranormal thriller with romance woven throughout it. We get to know vampires, shifters, demons and witches in this fast paced series. It’s a cat and mouse game following targets we have no idea if we should trust or not. As tension builds, fires blaze out of control and we are racing to find out who is really responsible. Zane & Jana are lead investigators and trying to keep each other alive as their chemistry ignites between them.
Cynthia Eden does a great job keeping the reader on the edge of their seat as the characters race against time to stop a group of organized killers.
I had a hard time getting into this story tho I've enjoyed other stories by this author! I like Zane but there's something about Jana that's put me off!
