I would not recommend reading these stories for pleasure. I would recommend to someone who is interested in other Chinese literature and wants to understand the countless allusions made to these fables. Having an understanding of these stories will make reading Chinese literature much more enjoyable, much like reading the Bible will give a reader a much fuller understanding of western literature.
