Caring Through the Funeral: A Pastor's Guide

Rate this book
While many resources on funerals are available to pastors, Gene Fowler offers a perspective of pastoral ministry, a guidebook for ministering and caring throughout the funeral -- from pre-funeral, to the funeral, to post-funeral. He explores what pastors go through at each stage of the funeral process, from when the pastor first learns of the death, to the weeks following the funeral.

I first came across this book when I was desperately searching for something, anything to help me figure out what I was going to do in a week when I was to officiate at my grandfather's funeral. It remains, in my view, the very best practical guide for a new (or not-as-new) pastor/leader to minister from the time of receiving the news of the death through the service and immediately following. I've had two occasions to return to it recently. Still very, very helpful.
