Tsukasa Hōjō

Hojo claims that he really did not have any inspiration for these works other than having to meet a deadline. He says he wrote down a few things, he thought about a few things, and one day the ideas just came to him, out of thin air. In reality, the process was a lot more complicated, with editors involved, but fans got the benefit of Hojo's sense of adventure and humor.
After the success of Cat's Eye and City Hunter, Hojo went on to work on other series such as Family Compo. His current ongoing series is Angel Heart, a spinoff of City Hunter set in an alternate universe. It has been serialized in the Weekly Comic Bunch since 2001 and 30 collected volumes has been published so far.
Tsukasa Hojo is Takehiko Inoue's mentor. Inoue worked as an assistant to Hojo during the production of City Hunter. Hojo is also a long-time acquaintance of Fist of the North Star illustrator Tetsuo Hara, who was also one of the founders of Coamix. Hojo contributed to the production Fist of the North Star: The Legends of the True Savior film series by designing the character of Reina.
He was honor guest of the eleventh French Japan Expo which was held in July 2010.

This volume began with a good wrap up to the school arc. I liked Sayaka continuing to follow Ryo and forming a rivalry with Kaori.
The Little Girl Waiting Arc was a decent small arc, where there were some empathetic moments between Hagio describing his strained relationship with his daughter. The ending seemed less dramatic, as Hagio was predictably able to survive.
The Barefoot Actress Arc’s atmosphere reminds me of the BMW Devil arc. Ryo's juvenile humor is prevalent and the arc focuses on him solely, instead of Kaori. I have enjoyed Yumiko’s ironic character depiction as an actress who is able to portray vivid characters but is in reality a dry person.
I love how there was a “You Are Already Dead” reference when Ryo starts showing his imitation skills. Surprisingly there were at least was even three instances of the fourth wall being broken and it got a bit tiresome when the third one occurred.

Looking at the ratings in the April 9, 2019, rating update, the "Making Panic" chapter should be lowered to three stars. The calculations would be changed to this:
Thirty-four pages of "The Ruined Gang" chapter rated at three stars.
Sixty-five pages of pages of "The Waiting Little Girl" chapter rated at two stars.
Sixty-nine pages of the "Naked Foot Actress" chapter rated at four stars.
Forty-nine pages of the "Making Panic" chapter rated at three stars.

This 3.02 rating still allows the volume to retain its three star rating. Perhaps lowering the "Making Panic" chapter's rating is not accurate, since I have only my abridged photos to look at when deciding the rating. I'm not sure what prompted me to rate it at four stars. Yes, there is the lovely moment with Yumiko reminiscing about her dead boyfriend, but the rest of the chapter focuses on the fight at the film location. This lowers the rating from a four star-rated chapter to a three star-rated chapter.

In skimming this volume, I have lowered the rating of chapter nine to two stars, because of how Ryo infiltrates the biker gang and defeats them. The ensuing ending is fine, and one that I enjoyed, but the previous two star-rated content takes up the majority of the chapter and is not buildup for the ending. I have lowered the rating of chapter eleven to three stars, despite the terrific play between Yumiko and Ryo, because of the scenes in the burning house shoot which are two star-rated.
Chapter Nine: The Ruined Gang. Thirty-four pages of rated at two stars.
Chapter Ten: The Waiting Little Girl. Sixty-five pages rated at two stars.
Chapter Eleven: Naked Foot Actress. Sixty-nine pages rated at three stars.
Chapter Twelve: Making Panic: Making Panic. Forty-nine pages rated at three stars.
The cumulative rating is 2.54 stars. I have even thought of lowering the rating of chapter twelve but I must remind myself that after beginning the fourth volume in this series, I recalled at how greatly I had enjoyed and genuinely liked the setting and plot of chapters eleven and twelve combined. I would say this is a weak, three star-rated book, probably closer to 2.5 stars. I had also colored this green but I have changed the color to yellow with a grey outline.

I have changed the rating color from yellow with a grey outline to green with a grey outline. I had previously considered technicalities to cause a yellow colored rating, however, if I agree with the technicality, it is a green colored rating. In this case, I agree definitively with the technicalities and the choice of a green star-rating.

In the 2.5GG rating type for this book, it mentions four star-rated content. This is referring to my great enjoyment for the beginning of the the Barefoot Actress Arc (that being the final two chapters of the volume).

Sigo con City Hunter, un comic que requiere cierto tiempo para leer cada uno de sus tomos, pero que te recompensa con una lectura amena y la mar de divertida.
En ésta ocasión tenemos tres historias, quedando la última a punto de caramelo para rematar en el tomo siguiente.
La primera nos “termina” la trama de la chica de instituto, una especie de matona que acaba rendida a los pies de Ryo e incluso se presenta por su casa en la historia siguiente: tenemos personajes recurrente?
La segunda trata de un padre que quiere recuperar su hija y contrata al protagonista para que acabe con él. Es una buena historia con una mejor resolución, pero las tramas de City Hunter con contratante masculino bajan un poquito.
Y luego está la última, la más larga de todas, aquí tendremos que ver cómo se hace pasar por el manager de una actriz para protegerla de alguien que está intentando matarla en el rodaje de una gran película. Una trama en la que sí tenemos al protagonista desatado en todos los aspectos y se permite presentar al rival en lo laboral del protagonista.
Un tomo con buen ritmo, que cunde, muy bien dibujado y con ese humor guarrete mezclado con momentos más serios que tan bien funciona.

Eine von Rockern entführte Klientin
Und eine Schauspielerin, deren Leben in Gefahr ist.
Zum Inhalt:
Um die entführte Sayaka aus den Fängen ihrer Entführer zu retten mischt sich Ryo unter die Rocker und kommt so bald dem Täter auf die Spur. Doch damit lenkt er Sayakas Interesse auf sich, was zur Folge hat, dass sie bald bei ihm einzieht, was Kaori mächtig gegen den Strich geht. Außerdem muss Ryo eine Schauspielerin beschützen, welche immer wieder mysteriösen Unfällen ausgesetzt ist. Ryo ist sich sicher, dass der Täter direkt unter den Leuten am Set zu finden ist.
Cover:
Das Cover zeigt Ryo im Profil und davor in einem lilafarbenem Kleid eine seiner Klientinnen. Dabei werden die beiden wieder durch ein Zielfernrohr beobachtet. Das passt sehr gut zu den bisherigen Covern und hat schon einen Wiedererkennungswert.
Eigener Eindruck:
Der dritte Band rund um den City Hunter Ryo Saeba kann sich wieder einmal sehen lassen. In diesem Band gilt es zwei Fäll e zu klären und so die Klienten vor dem sicheren Tod zu bewahren beziehungsweise aus den Fängen von Entführern zu befreien. Dabei geht Ryo wieder sehr gezielt, aber humorvoll zu Werke, sodass der Leser immer wieder ins Schmunzeln kommt und sich dann doch über die Wendung der Geschichte wundern kann. Schade finde ich bei diesem Band, dass die Hauptstory nun ein bisschen in den Hintergrund rückt, denn Ryo und Kaori sind noch immer der größte Feind der Mafia, aber die Zwischensequenzen hier sind auch ganz nett zu lesen. Die Gradwanderung zwischen Komik und Coolness ist einfach immer wieder zu toll und ich könnte mich jedes Mal beömmeln, wenn Kaori wieder einmal den Sittenwächter bei Ryo raushängen lassen muss, da dieser jeder Frau hinterher steigen will.

Wieder ein gelungener Band rund um den City Hunter, humorvoll und spannend. Lest es!
