I declare an interest in that I am a member of Writers in the Peak, although I probably attend less than six times per year and live in Hampshire. I go along when I visit my father, Tony Greenfield, who is also a member and one of the contributors to this anthology.

There is something for almost everyone inn this book, and you are bound to find your own personal nuggets amongst this varied collection of short stories and poems.

Without giving too much away, I can list just a few of my favourites w I declare an interest in that I am a member of Writers in the Peak, although I probably attend less than six times per year and live in Hampshire. I go along when I visit my father, Tony Greenfield, who is also a member and one of the contributors to this anthology.

There is something for almost everyone inn this book, and you are bound to find your own personal nuggets amongst this varied collection of short stories and poems.

Without giving too much away, I can list just a few of my favourites with short comments. I am certain that you will come up with a different set of favourites, but I will be very interested to hear the opinions of other readers, so please do post your opinions.

Toby by Jenny Bridge . Sometimes you could swear that your dog is telling you something. Toby speaks: too much! This will make you laugh.

Threadbear by Joyce Janes . Threadbear is a teddy bear who is the constant companion of George as he grows up. George loves him and his life is heavily influenced by Threadbear. It is a somewhat familiar story, but touching all the same.

Moksha Patam by Joyce Janes . Again, there is a familiar ring to this story. It is a sort of parable. The tale of a no-good lad who learns a tough lesson which changes his life.

The Girl in the Planet Pyjamas . This story really struck several harmonious chords with me. I have travelled in the area of East Africa which is referenced in the story, and I knew Gilgil as the base of the Kenyan Rifle regiment with which I served. The life described in the story is familiar too, and the notion of transposing a European fairy story into one which will be understood by children in more distant lands is well put too. Goldilocks and the three bears becomes; well, what you expect in Kenya?

Tuvan Sheep by Gillian Shimwell . I have always wanted to visit Tuva, and had an interest in that remote state, since reading about Richard P Feynman's desire to go to Kyzyl, its capital, when I was about ten. This is a very powerful poem describing the dispatch of a sheep in that land, from the sheep's point of view. All I can say is "WOW!"
