The patterns in this book are all based on traditional blocks, and you can create a quilt with just one block or make a sampler quilt using one of each block. But the methods - which at the time were considered new - are now outdated. Instead of using cardstock templates to trace and cut, it is much easier and faster to cut with rulers, a rotary cutter and a cutting mat. I guess that if you wanted the experience of making a quilt in the old fashioned way with templates - this would be a good book to use!
