This is a real boon to those new to Florida gardening. The state is so large though, with such a variety of environments, from the much cooler Panhandle area down to the tropical Keys, that it really is hard to package all of that into one book. This book attempts that in a rather slim volume of only 272 page in a large trade paperback format. The pictures are lovely and the choices are good ones. They have set the zones a little differently than the standard gardening zones and they have Central Florida covering a really large area so that they occasionally have to say upper or lower portions of the zone. It would seem they could have broken it down further to avoid that. The descriptions of the plants includes Peak Season, Favorite (variety), Gardening Companions in one panel and When, Where, How, and TLC in another panel on the page facing the general description. There are usually three or four pictures of the various varieties of the named plant.
The cover also promotes the book as the place to find "the plants most likely to thrive in your garden" and "your most important tasks in the garden each season." A good overview that is of special interest to gardeners new to the unique Florida growing season. This is a book that you don't sit and read in one go but refer to (or dream over) throughout the year. I will be putting this one on my wish list as I wouldn't mind owning a copy for reference even though it is not the definitive book on Florida gardening.
