Bored of constantly going abroad for holidays, and then realising how little he knew about the British countryside, Sean decided to take a month off work, buy a bike, and do the epic Land's End to John O'Groats, solo and unsupported. What followed was one of the most adventurous months of his life as he faced cold nights, rainy days and a lot of time on his own. "If I had ...more

Great Read!! Sean's first adventure, cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats (LEJOG), and onwards to Orkney. A different Sean then, not so athleticly built yet and on his first adventure, but the GONZO adventure writing is already there. The book reads well, the stories are funny and as a reader I sometimes was also there, in the rain/sleet/snow and mud with Sean and Flying Cow. Summer is THE season of choice for cycling the lenght of Britain and Scotland (LEJOG), but seeing the "crowds" at Land ...more

Great quick read following the travels of Sean taking on one of the UK's cycling challenges.

Not overly detailed with route mileage and stats, its just a simple diary style recording. You don't even need to be interested in cycling to read this.

I like Sean Conway and this book is very inspiring, but I felt that it could do with a ruthless edit. The fictional conversations with his mascot in particular should have been left out.

Lots of weird, unneeded references in this book - especially towards women. I’m glad his later books are much better.

An inspiring book which is hard to put down

This book was a very enjoyable read. I spent most nights reading "just one more page" (which would then turn out to be many more than that!) and going to bed in the early hours of the morning because it was such a good book. I too have been thinking of doing LEJOG and Sean's book was a unique, humorous, inspiring and helpful insight into what it was like for him.

A quick read, and about as good as a book about cycle touring can get. There were a number of grammatical errors in the kindle version but these didn't detract from the read.
