This was the first book/novella I've ever read by Joan Swan, but after this delicious morsel, I want more. So much more.
Zoe Brooks was one kick a$$ heroine. As a Border Patrol Agent she was out in the field taking down bad guys left and right. She was tough, efficient, focused and definitely had the respect and backup of her team. It took courage for her to admit that the field work was getting to her in ways that could put her life and that of her team on the line if she got reckless. During her “interview” with Rio Cordova, the director of ICE and her soon to be partner in an undercover operation, Taft Walker, we got a glimpse that there was definitely more to Zoe than her tough girl exterior. That first meeting was kind of hilarious. Zoe's no sex with co-workers policy was definitely warranted, but I liked that she wasn't closed off to men and sex because of her past bad experience.
Taft Walker was a wonderful hero. Funny, flirtatious, protective, charming, and HOT! He didn't try to hide the fact that he desperately wanted to bed Zoe. Seeing him realize that there was more to life than a loose lifestyle was the fun part of his world getting knocked off its axis.
First Temptation was wicked, from the characters to the sex scenes to the humor laced throughout the story. The opening scene captivated me from the first page; I could feel the heroine's adrenaline rush leap off the page. The chemistry between those two was hot enough to burn up my Kindle in the best possible way. The dialogue was full of witty banter, sexy innuendos and my absolute favorite, these characters didn't fear communicating with one another. I always felt that they knew exactly where they stood with one another, and any decisions they made in terms of mixing business with pleasure was always done with the consequences in mind. I loved the lack of unnecessary or forced drama during their quasi relationship. I also understood what attracted her to him and vice versa. The sex scenes were HOT, and one particular scene was unlike any I'd ever read before! It involved sex toys, but oh my, I want to know what pleasure device Taft was using!
I loved this novella for all the reasons above, even if I had to suspend disbelief that two agents were forced to work in a sex shop and act like lovers; it just made this story more titillating. The suspense portion wasn't the main focus of this story, but it served it's purpose in forcing the main characters together. I definitely recommend this. I will definitely go back and read book one, and will be continuing on with this series.

"Better with tools than toys, are you..." He glanced at her from beneath his brows with a grin. "Mary?"
Her shoulders fell. Eyelids lowered halfway. Color stained the ridge of her cheekbones. He didn't know women who blushed still existed.

"Because I have to have you. I have to touch you everywhere. I have to taste you. I have to be inside you. Explore you. It's not a want anymore, Zoe. It's what I need. And if you can't mix guys and work, then fine, you're fired."
