Fade In

Rate this book
Tatum Elliot is a successful writer on a hit television show, lives in an Upper East Side apartment and loves her life. She wouldn’t change a thing. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have a choice. She's losing her sight.

Tripping over her tongue and her heels, Tatum all too quickly realizes that the things which appeared so important before are slowly slipping away leaving room for what really matters. With the support of her best friends, family and colleagues, she begins to see that there’s much more to life… and herself.

When Ben Harris enters her life as her new personal assistant, she can’t tell if it’s his good looks and charm that are working on her libido, or his kind and helpful nature working on her heart? Whatever it is, neither one of them can resist it.

As her vision fades out, a world of love and happiness just might…Fade In.

Fade In is a contemporary-romance novel about laughing through your tears and telling life to, quite frankly, “Suck it.” This novel contains sexual situations that the author may or may not have tried at home… for your safety, of course. Research is research.

4--Sweet, Cute, Funny and Sexy--Stars!!

Oh my jeebus this book needs an editor (or a new editor).....stat! There were lots of distracting typos. As another friend said, it's like the author wrote the book, got to the end and just hit publish. Didn't go back and proof it all or even have a friend proof it. Some of the errors could have been easily caught.

Tatum was a fun and feisty heroine. She works on a hit television show as a writer, has a great apartment, a sexy boyfriend. But she's currently losing her sight. And it turns out her sexy boyfriend is a loser.

That break-up was EPIC. Seriously, Tatum

That was awesome.

Tatum hasn't really come to terms with her condition. She doesn't like for anyone to help her. She doesn't want to be a burden to others.

Doctor Evil advises that she start seeing a therapist to prepare herself and to start simplifying her life. Step 1--hire a personal assistant. Ben shows up on interview day and gets hired for the job. He wants to help Tatum.

But Tatum pretty much fights Ben at every turn.

Tatum is hesitant. She just broke up with douchebag, her condition is getting worse. She worries that she will be a burden to Ben and will hold him back. That she'll have to rely on him too much. But she can't help the attraction that she has for Ben..

But Ben is patient. He's more invested then Tatum even realizes.

But with that comes secrets. Secrets that could ruin everything before it even gets started.

I really liked Ben's character. He was super sweet and sexy. There was a slow build to Tatum and Ben's relationship. I laughed a lot and the side characters were great.

Overall, this was a good read and could have been a great read without the distracting typos.

4 - Fading Out and In - Stars

Tatum is a successful writer on a hit TV show with her best friend Winnie. She unfortunately has a disease that is causing her to slowly lose her eyesight. Her doctor recommends her talking to someone or going to a "blind camp" as she likes to call it.

In order to prepare for her soon to be blindness, she decides to start trying to simplify her life. She currently has a personal assistant for work but also hires a driver, cleaning lady, and decides to hire another personal assistant for all things relating to her home life.

Enter Ben Harris. Ben knocks on Tatum's door the day of interviews for PA's and she wants to jump him immediately.

HELLO photo youhadmeathello_zps32307e4f.gif

She decides to hire him as her personal assistant instead though. :)

Ben is a wonderful asset and helps Tatum in many ways. They sexual attraction is there so you know it will all eventually go down.

take care of you photo tumblr_mog76lwSqC1srtweto1_500_zps4cc7a43e.gif

What will happen when Tatum learns Ben isn't quite who he appears to be?

Honestly I enjoyed the laughter in this book but my heart also broke for Tatum as well. How sad to know that you will be losing the ability to see what you always could before. And especially when she is happy that Winnie and Cooper are getting married but then contemplating whether she will still be able to see during her own future wedding.

My Review:
Buying this book was a complete fluke. I saw a random post from a book blogger on Facebook and she mentioned everyone was talking about this new book out with an Amazon link. There weren't any comments on the Facebook post and I haven't heard any rumbles about this book from anywhere else, but the story description intrigued me so I picked it up. This book may not be one that my circles are talking about, but it definitely deserves some hype because it's an amazing read!! I absolutely and totally fell in love with this story.

This book is so good. It's the story about Tatum. On the surface, she's a girl who has everything. She lives in NYC, writes for a successful TV show, has a great family and great circle of friends. Life is pretty good for her except for one thing...she's going blind. Her optometrist of 12 years has been with her as her vision has diminished and he knows that she's not ready. He urges her to seek out a therapist and do some things to simplify her life...another personal assistant, a driver, etc. She agrees to everything but the therapist. She's tried that route before and therapy is just not for her.

Answering her call for a Personal assistant is Ben...and he's seemingly everything she needs in a PA...as well as gorgeous. They work perfectly together in every way and he's made no secret that he's interested in more than just working for her. But Tatum is going blind...she has issues and doesn't think getting involved with Ben will help any of those. In fact, that will just make things more complicated.

You know from the very beginning that there is more to Ben than what he's letting on. There's a prologue to the book and that gives huge hints as to who he really is. Even with that though, there were a couple of surprises to me when all was completely revealed.

I like the way that the book is written. It's all from Tatum's point of view...besides the prologue and the epilogue. I loved that. I liked the way that the story unfolded. Tatum is a very successful, put-together girl, but she has moments of self-doubt and insecurity, just like anyone else out there. I can't imagine what it's like to face what she's facing and there are moments in the book where it just broke my heart. She never knows when her sight will be completely gone, so anytime she sees something new, she tries to take it all in to memorize every little detail. The moments in her closet with her shoes...*gah*...it seems so silly, but it's those little things that we girls love that she's on the verge of losing.

Then there's Ben. It's no secret that he has a secret. The not knowing was killing me, especially not knowing how Tatum is going to react. He's such an amazing guy though...so perfect for her. And honestly, when it all came out, I just loved him more. Because he's everything she needs. Fate...it's an incredible thing.

This is a book chock-full of emotion and angst, but it was also incredibly sweet and fun to read. I loved every minute while I was reading it. It was one of those books that I kept eyeing how much was left with sadness because I didn't want it to end. Immediately upon finishing it, I got back on Amazon and bought a print copy for my keeper shelf. This is a first book from M. Mabie and it blew me away. She's earned herself a new fan right here!!!

This had a lot of potential to be an awesome new adult novel, but it fell short of really being great.

Things I liked a lot:
1. I loved the idea of a main character who is slowly going blind. I thought that was really interesting and the author did enough research to make that part of the novel believable to me.
2. Tatum was pretty funny. She was sassy and outgoing. She could be a bit much at times, but for the most part I really liked this character.

Things I thought were stupid:
1. The premise was a little bit too preposterous. The entire book hinges on the idea that this woman hires a PA and never asks to see any form of ID. NOPE!

I just don't believe this would happen. You give someone a key to your house, but you never ask them any questions as to how they knew about the job opening and never ask to see any ID? Never gonna happen.
2. I thought Ben was a little too perfect. This is just personal preference, but given how vague he was about his past and certain things, I would have found a lot of the things he did creepy if I was Tatum. Why is it that in books a guy can get away with acting like a predatory weirdo if he's really good looking? Guy does creepy thing. Guy is hot. Creepy thing negated. Really?
3. Ben seems to do a lot of crying.

4. The brother's name is Cooper. The best friend's name is Winnie. All I could think about was:

Sometimes a few things have to fade out to make room for the better ones to fade in.

This book had everything you could ever need from a story, and it was the most real feeling book I've read in a very, very long time. Getting inside Tater's head was amazing, and Ben can give any book boyfriend a run for his money ... and win hands down. I'll miss this verse so, so much *pouts* It was such a delightful and refreshing read compared to all the other books out there.

I found this book boring and hard to follow in the beginning and almost shelved it a few times. I’m glad I didn’t as it got a lot better at around 20/30% in. It was a really sweet story with a perfect H... seriously he was just too good to be true... men just don’t act like that in real life, sigh... There was some angsty drama towards the end but it (predictably) was resolved and we got a HEA with a sweet epilogue. Not a bombshell super fav but a nice, sweet story nonetheless.

Fade In is the story of Tatum Elliott. She is a strong, independent young woman who is conquering life in the Big Apple…. But she is also losing her vision and this is causing her to lose some of independence.

(Something I can imagine Tatum saying)

So basically… Tatum is a girl after my own heart. She was quick witted and sarcastic and I LOVED IT I feel as though Tatum and I would have been friends in real life, or maybe she is me in my real life??? She takes life by the balls… Literally, and goes for what she wants, and she is not going to let some little think like going blind take that from her.

Because of her condition, she has to hire a personal assistant to help ”SIMPLIFY” her life. The person for the job turns out to be Ben… Little does she know that Ben is way more invested in her that she realizes. Tatum and Ben’s relationship is touch and go from the beginning but as time goes on, they begin developing a relationship that is a lot less assistant and a lot more personal.
Tatum is trying to figure out how to manage getting her life in order while losing her sight and before it all said and done she begins to realize just how important the people in her life are, and how important it is to let others in but her vision goes out....

I loved Ben's character. I loved that Ben was willing to stick it out with Tatum even when she attempted to push him away. Ben's secret... Well I was upset, but Ben was so great, I had to move on...

Fade In is such a beautiful book! I loved it! This book deals with a serious situation, the main character loosing her eyesight, and yet this book is seriously laugh out loud funny. I laughed so hard - there was some really great humor! The story itself is just beautiful and really well written, I couldn't put it down. I am really surprised this is a debut novel, it is amazing and I am really looking forward to reading more by this author!

4.5 stars and so close to perfection for me.
What a stunning book!
This is one of those stories I'll think about fondly for some time. It had that sassy and very funny narrative voice that always works for me and the romance was slow building and just gorgeous. This is how you write a romance!
This felt like reading an Alice Clayton novel and I didn't want it to end.
I want more Ben and Tatum!

Needs editing

I would have enjoyed this much better had it been edited first. Very much needed! This is a rather slow burn romance and focuses on the main character loosing her sight. Ben was awesome, but carried around a secret from the beginning. It was a good/enjoyable read (except for all the errors).

I encountered Ms. Mabie when she was first starting out as a book reviews blogger. Her stellar writing and spot-on assessment of various fiction captivated me, and I have followed her religiously ever since.

I’m thrilled that she has taken pen in hand to write a novel. I do think the two writing roles are completely different. As a blogger, you hold the power and sway with your words. As a writer, introducing work--that will be seen, admired, distilled, and dissected by the public--well, there’s a big difference in what we allow through.

Given all of this, I will borrow from Ms. Mabie’s playbook and rate her novel according to her 55¢ system because it makes my life a whole lot easier and I think it’s fair. Amazon should be using this system. It actually applies thinking about all the different parts that comprise a novel. Love that!

Scoring equates to possible points by a fifty-five cents rating. Perfect = 55¢ Scoring of book was utilized from Fifty5Cents book reviews. blog.http://fifty5centsbookblog.wordpress....

Onward.

So.

Here is my honest review of Fade In by M. Mabie.

Plot/Story: 1-10¢
I combined this. I don't know why. Just go with it.
Main Characters: 1-5¢

The opening scene of this novel will capture you. It’s funny. We glimpse Tatum Elliot at her fiery best at her doctor’s visit being told she needs to change up her lifestyle and prepare for the future in which she will go blind. An indelible fact. One that Tatum seems determined to battle and basically ignore. Mabie does an excellent job of showing the heroine’s flaws and weaknesses, and I think most readers at this point will sympathize. Then, Mabie goes further by introducing a little humor, which is present throughout when Tatum shows the world her panties, and some guy whom Tatum mistakes as a potential assailant tries to help her out. Too funny. I loved it. Every time I think of that scene it brings a smile to my face.

Readers are introduced to Ben Harris in Chapter Nine. In my opinion, this is a little too late. Frankly, I would like to have seen a little more of Ben and less of Kurt, the former boyfriend. Ben remained a bit of a mystery throughout the novel. That is the one point I would make as a fellow writer, flesh this guy out a bit more. Dual POVs would have been interesting for this storyline. Ben’s bent on helping (or is that forcing?) Tatum to cope with the gradual onset of her blindness. Ben is sexy. He seems younger than Tatum by a lot, and I’m not sure why. Readers don’t have enough to go on to answer the questions around Ben because he remains mysterious on many levels throughout the story. At times, I felt a bit anxious as a reader—anxious for Tatum—sensing her vulnerabilities around this guy.

Secondary Characters:1-5¢

Winnie is Tatum’s best friend, and she was a great supporting character. There’s a whole different aspect to their relationship because Winnie is semi-famous and yet these two get along so well and the bestie is a great support to Tatum. Winnie is about to marry Cooper, Tatum’s brother, and he also has his sister’s best interests at heart. There does seem to be a lot of subtext here. I think the secondary characters are supportive of Tatum but worry about her at the same time. Mabie does a good job with the dialog, and that comes through in these scenes with the secondary characters.

Setting: 1-5¢

The setting for this novel mostly takes place in New York City, and readers get a glimpse of life in the fast lane when producing a television show. Late in the novel, there’s a change of scenes from one side of the country to be other. In doing this, readers get pulled out of the storyline developing between hero and heroine and the writing turns from showing to telling. It is hard to manage multiple scene settings, and when there are too many, it does distract the reader instead of adding to the story. Not fatal, but not helpful.

Humor: 1-5¢

Mabie writes with an intrinsic flare for humor. Our heroine has a potty mouth and a delightful sense of humor and that really comes through on every page. She’s going blind. Readers are sympathetic but also get lulled into Tatum’s false sense of ignoring this fact, which garners even more sympathy. She can laugh at herself, and she gets in some precarious situations where she gets injured by not being able to see peripherally and readers will feel for her. Mabie handles most of this with humor. It makes for an entertaining read. I write dark angsty love stuff so it was intriguing to me to see how Mabie handled this aspect. The same storyline by me would have been handled way differently. Mabie’s take is refreshing and I enjoyed it very much.

Attention/Retention : 1-5¢

There are a few places I would have cut out to keep the storyline mainly focused on Tatum and Ben. Just a little back story about Kurt may have sufficed instead of doing entire scenes with him revisiting the break-up for a few chapters. Not necessary. We get where Tatum is. She’s closed off. She’s in denial about her life changing because of her condition. She’s pissed off. The whole Kurt thing was an unnecessary side show that didn’t add to the plot. In addition, the trip across the country needed to have some sort of resolution to it, it didn't, which then invariably distracts the reader for no apparent reason. Instead, we come away distrusting Ben realizing he has a secret of some kind.

Vocabulary: 1-5¢

The vocabulary for this novel is fine. It’s not lyrical. It’s not literary. It’s an entertaining read with just the right amount of seasoning in humor that makes it delightful. Typographical errors hurt this novel in my edition. I marked them all and supplied them to Ms. Mabie and told her to fix them. I trust she has.

Steam: 1-5¢

Here’s where Ms. Mabie and I don’t see eye-to-eye on sex scenes. I see this often enough in the New Adult and Contemporary Romance books that I read. Some writers step onto this path and take up the clit language which I absolutely hate. Everyone has read “Fifty Shades of Grey” and some writers take up the vocabulary from that novel and invariably miss the whole point of writing a really good sex scene. Also, writers! Listen up! There does not have to be FIVE plus sex scenes in your novel. And yet, this is the recipe I keep seeing over and over: ¾ of the book is this sexual tease between the two main characters and then the last ¼ of the book is sex, sex, sex, sex. Hate that! It’s boring after the second sex scene and your readers are skipping that. Trust me. Don’t do that. And be considerate of your word choice for anatomical objects. Is this erotica or a romance? Pick one. Don’t depart ¾ of the way through the book and write erotic trope like everyone else if it is indeed a romance. Okay? Good.

Value: 1-5¢

Pricing of a novel is so subjective. I hate it. I play with the pricing of mine all the time. You’ll love this book, and you would pay more for it. I bought this novel for $2.99 but would have paid more. It’s a great read.

Ending: 1-5¢

And at last, we hear from Ben, which proves my whole point about doing a novel that includes more of his point of view. Whine over.

43¢/55¢ - Four stars

All you need to know is this is a great read. It will entertain you. You will be like me; you'll walk away remembering the opening scene and think I just “love” that girl.

Huge congratulations to Ms. Mabie on a wonderful debut novel. Nicely done!

This book was very kindly provided to me by the amazing author!!! Thank you a thousand times!

I really, really enjoyed this book. It dealt with something tough - knowing that you are going blind and can do nothing to stop it.

Some of my favorite parts were when Tatum talked about what it would be like. The things she would never see again, her loss of independence... it was heart wrenching at times. Thinking about it brought me to tears. I mean, can you imagine? Well the M. Mabie did a GREAT job of imagining it, and putting it into a beautiful story. I was able to really feel it, and it was awful (I mean the feeling of never seeing important and beautiful things again, not the fact that I was feeling something!). I love a book that can make me feel something so strong, and she did that here.

Tatum is awesome. I just loved her and was sad for her. I loved her friendship with Winnie and Cooper.
Also, this book was FUNNY. I love love love Tatum and Winnie's (well everyone else's too, I suppose) potty mouths and dirty, sarcastic senses of humor! I have such a bad mouth, so I guess it just felt normal and real to me. And the people watching! HA! I do that with my husband and sister all the time (don't judge me!).

Then there's Benny. Sweet, sexy, perfect Benny. He was so freaking sweet and adorable. As much as I loved him, I again see the issue with men in NA (is this NA? Sure. We'll go with that.) which I have complained about in other book reviews. They are too perfect. Even their big, deep, dark secrets tend to be heroic or beautiful when you break it down. So I am not surprised that he fell right into that category. But I still loved him!!! I big thing with him was kind of obvious, on some level, to me. But that didn't make the story any less enjoyable!!

I loved that the story was rounded out with what happened in the future. I didn't just drop off after he big revelation of love and all that. She took us forward with them, filled us in, and made it whole. And it was so fucking beautiful and I cried.

This was very different from Bait (which I love) but it was very good and I definitely recommend, especially if you liked the writing in Bait.

(and yes there were some editing issues. It was easy for me to overlook because I knew they would be there, and the author told me it is being re-edited, as it was her first book! Once its re-edited I will probably buy a physical copy. I like it enough to do so and I love to support authors I like!)

"Sometimes a few things have to fade out to make room for better things to fade in."
This book was very cute and sweet and sexy. I really loved Tatum as a main character because she was sassy and witty and hilarious. Even though sometimes I thought she was a little over the top, I still generally enjoyed her character. And Ben's character.. swoon Ben was my idea of perfection. I loved the fact that Ben was so sweet to her and always calling her baby, and wanting to help her as much as he could. Also, the fact that he loves reading gave him bonus points haha. I thought Ben's character was really complex, and after learning more and more about his character and his past, it only made me like him more. Ben said a lot of sweet, quotable things, like: "Tatum, just because something is in the dark doesn't mean it won't shine."

This book reminded a lot of Rainbow Rowell's "Landline" because just like Georgie, Tatum works as a comedy tv show writer, and there is even a character named Neil in this book too! What are the chances? It also reminded me of Landline because of the relationship aspect and it's sweet and easy to read just like that book was.

I loved this unique idea about reading about a girl who is slowly losing her sight, and although I wish there would have been a little more depth added to that aspect of the story, I still really enjoyed it. My sight is something I take for granted, and I liked reading from the perspective of someone who was going blind. I also loved reading about Ben and Tatum's vacations to California, and Florida, and The Keys, it was very cute and romantic. I love the fact that they live in New York because that's one of my favorite places in the world. Also, Winnie and Coopers characters were just as funny and entertaining as Tatum herself. Cooper was an adorable protective older brother and Winnie was an adorable best friend to her, and I love the fact that Cooper and Winnie were getting married. I also loved all the side drama with Kurt and what an asshole he was throughout the story.

Even though Tatum got on my nerves towards the end with her drastic, quick decisions, I still appreciated and loved this book. If you're looking for a romantic, beautiful, and sexy love story, then this is it.

I came across this book in my search of romance stories with a disabled protagonist.
This was the first, and so far the only one on my quest, where the heroine has a disability. Maybe if I start to dig deeper I will find some more...

The overabundance of five star reviews made me a little bit wary.
Would this really be as good as the other reviewers said or did I stumble over reviews from friends, fangirls and family?

Well, it was this good!
Exactly as other readers stated!

Well fleshed out characters: from the lead to the supporting ones.
Witty banter: I think I must have highlighted half of the book and now I cannot decide which lines of dialogue I would like to quote...

Often when I read the protagonist is working in an office, the author does not provide any information beyond having the character leaving her cubicle in search for a cup of coffee, chatting with her colleagues or describing that she sharpens the pencils.
In this book I had the impression that the author did some research on the business the heroine is involved in, and I liked it very much!

The tension between hero and heroine was off the charts, although they needed some time to eventually succumb to their attraction.
I was getting impatient, I must confess!

Enough of my praise for this debut novel.
There are some things which need to be addressed here as well:
My copy states being a revised version but still typos and missing or misplaced words galore!
Somebody should take a look at this again!

And finally, I expected the heroine´s disability to be more limiting.
She was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa but all throughout the whole book she was "only" partially sighted and never completely blind.
This felt a little bit like false advertising to me, because I expected a character with a more severe handicap.
She occasionally bumped into her furniture or did not see a person standing right next to her. But that was it!

In spite of that, I great debut novel!
Other first time writers can take a leaf out of this author´s book.

4.5 stars!

I didn't know what to expect when I first started reading Fade In. At about 8% in the greatest thing happened. I read a scene that had me laughing my ass off and is probably a scene that will stay with me forever. I can't tell you what that scene is because let's be honest, who likes spoilers, right? Just know that it's the BEST BREAK-UP SCENE EVER! Hmmmm...maybe M. Mabie did that to some poor guy?!

This book was just amazing. Tatum is a character you find yourself rooting for from page one. She has a disease and is losing her sight. But yet she refuses to take that sitting down. Her Dr. tries to get her to see a therapist but she refuses, afraid of what that would mean for her.

Now, let's talk about Ben Harris for a minute. That man is absolute perfection. From the first time he is introduced, I just knew that I would love his character.

"Fucking is child's play compared to what I'm going to do your body with mine. You deserve better than that."

SWOON!

if your looking for a fun, panty melting book, this is the one for you, ladies! And then when you reach 8% you can come find me and tell me that shit wasn't fucking perfect!!

Barely started chapter 2 and I hate the heroine. I’m not against curse words but constant cursing is not a substitute for wit.

Now this is my kind of jam! Unique story line. Great Characters. Loads of humor. Blogger turned indie author. What more can you ask for? Author, M. Mabie’s got real talent, folks! I’m definitely picking up what she is puttin’ down!

Tatum Elliot is kind of a big deal in the TV world, but no amount of money or power can fight what is ailing her – she is going blind. Ssssshhhh… it’s a secret that she doesn’t want the world to know and she wants to keep it that way.
Yes, but it takes a minute for everything to focus. It comes back in a few seconds and everything is back to shitty-ass normal. Tell me the truth. Is this because of my adolescent masturbating? I was told that leads to blindness.”
“This again!? Would you quit with the masturbating!” he almost shouts.
“I wish I could. It's just that I'm so good at it.” I know it’s bad timing, and timing is supposed to be everything. It's just that sometimes my dirty mouth rescues me with a perverted life jacket and it's always just my size.

Yes, see? That’s the humor part I previously mentioned. I know, I know… Losing your sight is serious, but author M. Mabie lightens the impending doom with a lot of humor and it totally worked for me.

Friends and family try to support her in her journey towards the inevitable, but she doesn’t plan to “go down” without a fight… Personally, I think she is knee deep in denial. One thing that she is certain about is that she needs a new personal assistant and finding that perfect fit is proving to be quite the daunting task.

Enter Mr. Hotness, Ben Harris. He’s pretty much perfect, but don’t you know, he’s got a BIG secret that threatens to destroy the very foundation their relationship is built on.
… I mean, he's perfect. He's attentive and sweet. He's funny and he keeps me on my toes. He's hot as fuck and eats pussy like it’s the Last Supper, but I just have this feeling that, whatever it is, he isn't telling me because it's bad.

In my opinion, she should just focus on the first part of that conversation, specifically the part about him being perfect and especially the part about how well he eats her punani – ENOUGH SAID!

FADE IN is the first book by new indie author, M. Mabie and if this one is any indicator of the future, she’s got big things in store for her as an author. I am definitely on board with what she is dishing out in the future! This is a great one to pick up if you love discovering new authors who incorporate a lot of humor in their romance. I loved it and I think other fans of contemporary romance will too!

I was SO not expecting to like this as much as I did!

I really don't know why I picked this book up, its for an older audience and just from reading the blurb I thought I could tell exactly how the story was going to go, and exactly what I thought I was going to feel..... which (don't hate me) I thought was going to be nothing. I know I just used the word "thought" a lot, but i'm trying to get a point across that sometimes, looks really can be deceiving.

In the end I read it because I have a soft spot for books about deaf and blind people, but I went into it with little expectations and a lot of "thoughts"....Anyway to cut to the chase; this book was sweet and funny, sensual and loving, and I got that feeling that you get in your stomach when you absolutely adore a couple together, and desperately want them to to end up happy.

I really felt a connection between the two of them, I really felt the love. My only problem is that it was too focused on the sex for my taste, but aside from that I have no complaints about the whole thing. I fell completely into the story. I felt the raw emotion and I thought there was a lot of development expressed. I also loved the side characters and the light nature of the whole book, and I had a constant smile on my face while reading and that's never a bad thing. What worked with this book was that some tough issues were tackled and there was a message about life conveyed, however the author still managed to write it in a fun way.

But just as a side not on the writing....spell and grammar check was seriously needed. I tried to ignore them all, but it was hard and that was something that bothered me a bit...but lets get back to the good bits :)

The thing that I probably loved most about FADE IN was the humor and spunk the book possessed. I seriously laughed my ass off....just read this quote of you don't believe me.

“I trust you. I think.” I try to smile, but I'm certain it looks more like I'm going number two.”

It's quotes like that which made me like this so much. The author tackled a tough, sometimes sappy issue and somehow managed to make light of it all, without downgrading it's importance. It was amazing!

All in all: FADE IN was pretty great! I really liked it and aside from it being a tad too sex crazed for me, there is not a thing about it that I even remotely dislike.

Loved this book. Just loved it. Witty and clever banter, snarky foul mouth Tatum, her hilarious brother Cooper, her bff Winnie, the office staff and not to forget the incredibly delicious and smart Ben.

The story is told from Tatum’s POV- she has slowly deteriorating sight and she’s pissed. Rightly so. But she is also completely resistant to the idea of preparing for what may come. Enter Ben.

He knows what she needs before she asks. And the chemistry between them is epic. But he’s her assistant- off limits. Until he’s not.

In Ben she finds a partner. With him she can focus on her work and her life falls into line. Yeah, she has questions- like is Ben really a spy??-but being with him feels good. Feels right. I love how as she fell deeper she started to get why everyone liked love. And Tatum in love is a hilariously wondrous thing.

Ben and Tatum together- their passion is intense. Their reactions honest.

When all the secrets are revealed Tatum has to deal with life on her own terms. Has to decide if that includes Ben. Has to believe that what you see is not always what is there, and what is there you may not be able to see.

The prologue and epilogue are PERFECT. PERFECT I tell you. Story line is fast paced- as are the characters lives. A truly amazing debut novel from an author I can’t wait to read more from.
