Life imitating fiction or fiction imitating life?

I picked this book to read at the same time that the weather here in the UK became decidedly wintry. For us it was late February 2018. When I read the weather report in the book, you'd have thought it was our current situation! Apart from that though there was obviously no comparison except for the chaos that ensued.

What is this!! There is no story just introductions to people and the how they died in snow. Rubbish

Dumb people make dumb decisions and end up freezing to death. Rinse repeat.

This was gripping and fascinating, but the random, pointless deaths got a bit tedious towards the end.
