“Brian Simmons has done a remarkable job of making the book of Proverbs come alive on an entirely different level! His scholarly and linguistic brilliance is on open display throughout this book. However, what Brian does best is connect us to the Hebraic paradigm for experiencing this ancient book of wisdom. For me, it was impossible to not be swept up by the author's own joy of discovery of the hidden treasures of this book. I highly recommend this labor of passion—and get ready to enjoy Proverbs as never before.
It ended with the best chapter: Proverbs 31. I’m kind of obsessed with this chapter in the Passion Translation 🥹❤️🔥. It’s everything that has been on my heart since I got saved. Everything I want. Exhibit A: “ she gives out revelation truth to feed others. She is like a trading ship bringing divine supplies from the merchant. Even in the night season she arises and sets food on the table for hungry ones in her house and for others. She sets her heart upon a nation (a land, a country) and takes it as her own, carrying it with her. She laborers there to plant the living vines.” LOVE!!!!! Proverbs 31:14-16.
A beautiful translation that speaks clearly and powerfully. I always find Proverbs uncomfortable reading, but this translation touches the heart with comfort as well as conviction.
I LOVE the Passion translation of the bible - it is so beautifully written, includes loads of background notes on the choice of vocabulary used, and expresses deep truths in fresh ways. It is not a literal translation - more of a well-researched adaptation, so I always use it alongside another version to see how other people have worded it. I find it much more useable than The Message version though, which uses such specific turns of phrase that it only seems relevant to a small amount of English-speaking cultures. This one feels more contemporary without being as cringy (that’s personal preference, I know), and feels like it adds light and depth to each verse, making me want to find out more about the original words that were used to translate from.
This is an extraordinary translation of the Book of Proverbs which according to the author means "to reign in life". If we lack wisdom we should ask God who gives abundantly; this book is full of Godly wisdom. No doubt this book will adorn my nightstand for years to come.
