One of the very few older works which I did not finish.

The introduction giving some history leading up to the time of the novel is overly long, overly florid and overly tedious. The most important point of which is don't judge people of a past age by the standards of the current age. This was an interesting book about an Knight and the meaning of Melice is Honey Bee. He was a friend of savages and was an emissary between the colonists and the indians, but the colonists turned on the Knight when they thought he was Catholic. There were certainly a lot of references made to the Puritan state. I found this to be a very good book, even though there were a number of words that I didn't understand.

This was a freebie on Kindle. It was first published in 1857 and concerns a Pilgrim settlement some 200 years before.
I found the whole thing quite enlightening about the attitudes of people in that time, because I knew nothing in depth of the period. I also fell a little in love with our Knight in the first half of the book. It was both interesting and enjoyable.
