This was a cute story about a family that finds a cat and has trouble coming up with a name for him. It reminded me of when I was younger. We always had cats in the house growing up and it was fun picking out names for each one of them. Sometimes we named them according to the time of the year We had one named Holly that we found during the month of December. And another named Emmy that we found around the time of the year when the Emmy awards were on. It was always fun watching them grow and learn how to do things.

Pringle tells a humorous story in the book Naming the Cat. A cat appears at the doorstep of a family who decides to keep the cat as a pet. However, there is one problem... what will they name it?! The family goes around in circles, trying to name the cat; they just can't all seem to agree. Suggestions are offered from each family member, but somebody always seems to dispute the choice. Thus, the cat remains unnamed for a large portion of the book. The narrator decides to take the cat with her to school one day. Everything is going great until the cat escapes and falls out of the classroom window! In panic, she rushes on to find the cat... he is just fine, as he landed on his feet, perfectly safe. "You sure are lucky!" the girl says. And that's when the family decides on the perfect name: Lucky. I would share this story to a young child who is just learning to read and interested in humorous books. There is really no moral to the story, but it is a very cute book!

Cute pictures, lots of name suggestions for kids to think about and suggest their own. I particularly liked "Scruggs" and "Kabuki" which are easy leads for discussing those topics with kids.

I thought it was a cute/funny book. It reminds me of when we got my cat and were trying to come up with just the right name for her.
