Due to a clause in her father’s will, Lily has until Christmas to find a husband. Having yet to find a single man she would ever consider marrying after six failed seasons, she fears all hope is lost… until she meets the mysterious, insufferable, and oh so handsome Captain James Rigby.
Recently returned and still recovering from the bloody battlefields of war, James is missing an arm and, it would seem, a heart. The last thing on the embittered soldier’s mind is marriage, especially to Lily Kincaid, a woman who is as infuriatingly stubborn as she is beautiful.
With time running out, can Lily convince James – and herself – true love really exists? Or will she lose everything, including her heart? Find out in The Risqué Resolution, a holiday novella filled with romance, humor, and just a touch of Christmas magic.
Jillian Eaton has written over forty historical romances and is known for finding the perfect balance between "intense emotions, sizzling chemistry, and light-hearted humor" (Swept Away by Romance). She grew up in Maine and now lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and their three boys on a 17-acre farm where they rescue and rehabilitate senior horses.
When she isn't writing, working at the barn, or playing a cutthroat game of Harry Potter Monopoly with her family, Jillian enjoys gardening, hiking, and being an adjunct professor at her Alma mater, Delaware Valley University.
If readers are new to her books, she always suggests the following:
Sweet and Swoony Romance: Duke at First Sight Spicy and Mysterious: A Dangerous Seduction All Around: Bewitched by the Bluestocking Bit Darker: The Duchess Takes a Lover
When Lily spots a dashing man across the room at a ball she is instantly attracted to him. Feeling despondent following the reading of her fathers will and needing to marry to protect her mother and sister by Christmas, she is intrigued when the surly James matches wits with her yet shows a vulnerable, scarred side. When a snow storm forces this couple to seek shelter, the mutual attraction proves to be a strong temptation...possibly to much to ignore.
Lily was strong, bold and protective and was a lovely foil to James who is struggling with his own inner issues following war. As this was a novella, the attraction was quick and the reward quicker but it was a delightful holiday treat. I have enjoyed every book I have read from Jillian Eaton and her newest is no exception...warm, sexy and guaranteed to leave a smile on your face!
Jillian Easton has done it again. Another fantastic novella. I loved this book and the characters as always are amazing. Please tell me Natalie will have her own story so we know what happened to her (and so we can see that Lily & James and the rest of the group are up to) I wish iBooks had all of Julian’s books as I now read 8 and they have all been great stories with fab characters. Do not miss these books 😃
I would likely give this book a bit above a 4, perhaps a 4.2 or 4.25. Ms. Eaton does a grand job of telling a tale with engaging characters. One feels the "pain" and the "joy" found in both Lady Lily Kincaid and Captain James Rigby. The reader roots for both of them to find happiness.
The things I do not enjoy is the introduction of characters, such as James's sister, Natalie, whose story is left untold. I do understand, I will meet Natalie again later in her own tale, but she seems so damaged that I, as a reader, wish her a speedier road to recovery.
Then there is the occasional slip that takes me out of the story. For example, in this tale, Jame's character loses an arm during the war. However, in the final chapter he, obviously, grows a new one. He appears from the shadows to speak to Lily. The books says, "He held a single candle..." (carolers were carrying candles). Only moments later and without sitting the candle down (because they are outside) or blowing it out, the book says, "His hand fell heavily on her arm and spun her around..." then immediately holds her to him. What happened to the candle? These kind of mistakes make me a bit crazy because they pull me out of the story.
Well, I enjoyed this book more than I did Winter Wish, the first in this series. It has more of a plot than the previous novella did so I'm glad I gave it a chance. The heroine interacted with more than two people and we get more of a backstory, plus she actually seems to have a chemistry with the hero.
This is the second story involving Lily. The first one The Winter Wish, Sarah snd Dev's story It is really a toss up as to which is best. They are both good. I do however recommend reading them in order.
Another Cute Christmas Story. Wish it was a little longer and more in depth. Would have loved to find out what happened to Lily and James after the wedding. Is there going to be a story about James sister Natalie?
Quick Christmas read. I have a soft spot for heroes like him. Gruff and blustery on the outside - sweet inside. And heroines like her: take charge and not afraid to speak up.
