Lady Vivian Worth knows perfectly well how to behave like a lady. But observing proper manners when no one is around to impress is just plain silly. When Luke Forest, the newly named Duke of Foxhaven, arrives early to visit his bride-to-be, he catches Vivian acting most unladylike—in her chemise. We first met the hero, Luke Forest, in the previous Beau Monde book, Miss Lavigne's Little White Lie, in which he served as a helpful side character. Now, Luke has become the Duke of Foxhaven, and is seeking to disengage himself from his responsibilities as a duke, starting with cancelling his betrothal to Lady Vivian Worth.

Vivian is a spirited, bold, and somewhat reckless young lady. She is not given to conformity over strict manners or propriety, and her childhoo

This was such a fun, charming, easy read! Vivian and Luke were just so perfectly suited for each other and I loved seeing them fall for each other. Luke had initially decided to help Vivian find another husband but he quickly realizes how perfect she is for him and finds it hard to believe his father, whom he had a strained relationship, could have known him so well to pick Vivian for him. He has left his Duke duties for his brother and has been determined to go off on an adventure but Vivian ma ...more

Samantha Grace is a new author to me, and this book is the fourth in her debut series, Beau Monde. According to her bio, Publisher's Weekly has called her "fresh and romantic" with subtle humor and charm. I enthusiastically agree.

Lady Vivian Worth is a classic hoyden, but not the stereotypical kind often found in Regency romances. When it's necessary, she is perfectly capable of behaving like any other polite young lady, but when no one else is around her true personality tends to escape its bo

This is the first book I've read by Samantha Grace and for me it was okay. Lady Vivian Worth is a the strong willed heroine whom is the intended bride of Luke Forest, the Duke of Foxhaven,. Both have preconceived notions about not liking the other; so when Luke first meets Vivian he is surprised by his desire to wed the chit. Soon he is pulling every string to make her see how great they can become.

Grace's writing style was fair and fine but the overall plot just didn't really or capture my inte

2 Disappointing Stars.

I don't know, maybe I expected something different from this book but at the end, I was disappointed. I did not like both the hero and the heroine. What they had is lust and there wasn't any indication of love.

Vivian’s innocent compassion set her up as an object of gossip and possible ruin before she was really old enough to realize she had done something that Regency rules deemed taboo. She tells herself she will act just the way she should and not cause her brother anymore grief, but her delightful, high-spirited ways keep her life teetering on the edge of social disaster most of the time.

She was only a child when she was betrothed, but i

Lady Vivian Defies a Duke is #4 in the Beau Monde series by Samantha Grace. I haven't read the first three, but that didn't keep me from enjoying this one.

Lady Vivian is something of a wild child. She can be a lady, but she figures why bother if there is no one to see. She's been accused of doing something awful and must now accept the marriage that her brother has been brokering.

Deciding that she has to be wild one last time, before the man her betrothed is sending to suss her out, she swims

Lady Vivian Worth brother has agreed a marriage contract between her and the Duke of Foxhaven’s heir. The Duke passes away leaving Luke Forest in a contract he doesn’t wish to fulfill. Luke travels to Vivian’s country residence in order to convince her to write her brother and ask to rescind the marriage agreement. What Luke doesn’t realize is he is Vivian’s “only hope”, her brother has decided to put her in a convent if she causes the engagement to fail.

Luke is immediately impacted by Vivian’s

Samantha Grace’s Beau Monde Batchelor series continues with Lady Vivian and the Luke Forest, Duke of Foxhaven, characters drawn with enough complexity and depth to make them interesting and engaging. Although the writing is a bit sluggish at times, the novel as a whole is very much worth the read and is entertaining. Grace also deals with themes such as forgiveness that are relevant and fairly well developed throughout the novel. Like many “ruined” women, Vivian’s situation is misunderstood and ...more

What I Liked: I’m surprised by how much I ended up enjoying this book. Once it hit its stride, I found it really engaging and hard to put down. The writing is strong and the story is interesting.
I really liked both main characters, especially Vivian, who was a good combination of feisty and innocent at the same time. I thought their relationship was really good, once it got going; they had good chemistry and entertaining banter. Their sex scenes were steamy and well-written, but

THIS STORY AINT SO BAD. NO DRAMA OR ANGST JUST PLAIN OL ROMANCE.

OUR HERO is the Duke of Foxhaven, on his way to Brighstbury to call off his unintended betrothal to a woman he doesn't know, hopefully it is mutual. On his way he encounters a water sprite who happens to be his intended but she cheats him of his destination, purposely delaying his arrival. Luke can't get that encounter out of his mind, instantly charmed by the uncanny maid by the river. When they meet again, he immediately realises

I don't usually read the last in a series before I have read the series, but I was at The Ripped Bodice book store without my notebook, so I bought a book by an author I knew I hadn't read. Vivian is a unique character, she is intelligent, but can't seem to hold her tongue. We find out her backstory, and I assume one of the books in the series is about her brother. Luke the Duke also is apparently a character in the previous books, a reluctant Duke due to a previous injury he can't read without ...more

Two delightful characters, each not believing himself/herself not worthy, slowly find the perfect match in the person chosen by others as they try to break their betrothal. Trials and tribulations await them in many forms, that carry us ,rooting for them, to a successful end.

It should come as no surprise that Samantha Grace has delivered another priceless historical romance to complete her Beau Monde series. LADY VIVIAN DEFIES A DUKE is a beautiful regency romance that will delight readers with clever and charming characters.

Lady Vivian Worth is not the conventional lady. She swims in her chemise, shoots a pistol and rides a horse surprisingly well. Yet she is willing to give up her frivolous life when Luke Forest, Duke of Foxhaven, makes her his wife. Her brother

Pros:
I always appreciate a historical romance with some humor and a heroine with an actual personality and/ or variety of interests past, you know, being super pissed off and helpless about her circumstances.
Cons:
This was not quite "family sitcom" level romance...more like....tween tv or movie level romance? You know what I'm saying.

This is my first Samantha Grace novel and I can't wait to read some more of her novels. I really enjoyed this one!

I love a Heroine who is not afraid to be a little wild, especially in the Regency era were it is considered very improper. Lady Vivian Worth captured me from the very beginning when she is caught by Luke in the swimming hole. She thinks it is Lord Ellis who is suppose to look over over and assess whether he thinks her befitting the Duke of Foxhaven. What she doesn't know is that it i

Lady Vivian Defies a Duke is the fourth in Grace’s Beau Monde series. Lady Vivian Worth has resigned herself to an arranged marriage to the Duke of Foxhaven, Luke Forest. She knows that her outrageous and unladylike behaviour has led to her brother finding any way to get her off his hands, so Vivian will be on her best behaviour when her betrothed comes to call. Vivian does not count on getting caught while having a very unladylike swim by her betrothed or the fact that she might just welcome th ...more

Vivian Worth is in danger of being unmarriageable unless she can get a man she's never met to agree to the contract drawn up by their families. Luke, Duke of Foxhaven, is wary of the secret agreement his father made shortly before his death, but he travels to see the lady in question. He has no idea what to expect. What you can expect is a breezy, feel-good romance that disappears like movie popcorn - in other words, before you know it. It's a historical, so there is a meet-cute and a country ho ...more

For the past few days I have been reading Samantha Grace's soon to be new release, Lady Vivian Defies a Duke. I must say I thought this story was cute. So, lets see why:

Lady Vivian Worth is a precocious young lady. She has a penchant for finding trouble. Hence the reason her brother was in negotiations with Luke's father for a marriage agreement.

Lucas Forest, the new Duke of Foxhaven, has no designs to tie himself down at this time. So, he figures he could t

Due to a misunderstanding she is ignored by her peers in the country. She feels ashamed and does not want to bring a dark shadow to her family; especially her brother.

Luke Forest, Duke of Foxhaven is a man with big shoes to fill. He isn’t ready to face the reality and assume the responsibilities that are his birthright. He rather seek a

So sweet! Lady Vivian Defies a Duke was a great romance, though it had one issue...

Vivian was a brilliant heroine. She was hilarious. She was rather impulsive and the situations she got herself into cracked me up. But she was also a strong character-she had to be to endure everything that occurred just because of one youthful mistake. However, I did wish that she was more decisive because she let small doubts about her and Luke's relationship mess with her head. Otherwise, I liked her a lot. She

98% certain that this book was selected to irritate my husband. I mean... look at the cover. What's he doing there? Besides looking vaguely absurd and slightly creepy.

Plus I'm mildly obsessed with historical romance, so win-win right?

Okay... so not necessarily but since this book happened to be a really good historical romance (way better than it's cover implies, btw) it's totally win-win.

With Lady Vivian Defies a Duke Samantha Grace, once more proves that she has the writing talents to run with the big names like Quinn, James and Jefferies. She has been on my auto buy list since the release of Miss Hillary Schools a Scoundrel and continues to rise into a beloved personal favorite author to read. I am waiting for a Samantha Grace book that I do not enjoy. I have enjoyed each and every one of her book releases. Lady Vivian Defies a Duke is no exception to this.

Historical romance author Samantha Grace discovered the appeal of a great love story when she was just a young girl, thanks to Disney's Robin Hood.
