* I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review*
This book starts off with an introduction to Hunter and Miki. It was a little slow and I have to admit that I didn't fully understand their relationship and the way they interacted with each other. For a lack of a better description I found them a little robotic and stiff. Perhaps it was due to both of them being a little messed up. Hunter dealin ...more

Spending the summer at his grandmother's, Hunter was looking forward to just having some fun. It was his last summer as a college student before his career began and he had a new girlfriend. Miki had accompanied Hunter to the small, picturesque tourist town where his grandmother lived. She too would be starting her career soon and looked forward to the distraction. Neither expected the horror that began to take place not long after they arrived. Both Hunter and Miki were dealing with other issu

This book definitely took a while to get going. In the first few chapters, the dialogue was a little stiff and some of the scenes lacked a good bit of detail. The initial character development could've been much better, and the dialogue between the characters just never seems genuine. Many scenes lack important detail. For example, at one point Hunter is on the dock at night and the sheriff comes up, tells him to go home, and that's it. The scene wasn't foreshadowing anything, just a stand-alone

Confronting Truths!!!
Sheri Wren Haymore's second novel is just that! Haymore weaves a tale of suspense that takes every one of her characters down different roads of discovery, where in the end each one's paths will collide. But unlike other authors, Haymore has a unique understanding of human nature and a person's strong will and character to overcome what others are destroyed by. "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger!" Haymore's characters live by that motto.

I just finishing "A Deeper Cut," and already miss the main characters and wonder what they're up to. I so appreciate how relationships and connection are woven into the suspenseful fabric of the story. I felt drawn into the suspenseful storyline and it's dynamic characters within the first few pages, and continued to be delightfully entangled as it continued to unfold and ultimately concluded with an action-packed ending. The author has an insightful voice with a keen story-telling ability. I'm

Let me preface this review by stating that I picked up this book at an independent bookstore in Asheville, NC. It was placed next to a stack of Gillian Flynn novels in the Psychological Thriller section. Thus, I had no idea this was a Christian novel…
As stated, A Deeper Cut is a psychological thriller (with a hint of romance!) that unravels in the small, coastal town of Beaufort, NC. Hunter Kittrell returns here every summer to stay with his Granny Jen, rather than returning home to his detached ...more

Every summer Hunter spends it with Granny Jen in Beaufort. This year he has brought Mikki with him, thinking it might be a good thing for them. This summer though, a murderer has decided to visit Beaufort also, and frame Hunter for at least one of the killings. A Deeper Cut mixes drug dealers and sweet, southern charm into a realistic tale of a summer on the shoreline. Hunter is tasked with figuring out who he really is, and whether to continue to let his father's ...more

I could not possibly give this book the praise it deserves. I enjoyed every second of this book. It goes so much deeper than a murder mystery. There is love, loyalty, the will to survive, the want to succeed, and the need to find one’s place in life all thrown at the reader, with all ties being brought together harmoniously in the end. One of the most satisfying endings to a book I have ever read. Haymore brings a number of characters together, all telling the same story and adding bits of their

A DEEPER CUT is an excellent story about a young man whose life is no longer the easy childhood he'd had. When Hunter brings his girlfriend Miki to visit his Granny Jen, his carefree summer is full of mystery and danger. Miki's life is damaged nearly beyond repair, and she seeks solace in anything she can find. Granny Jen takes Miki under her roof and cares for Miki like her own child, but Miki is confused and seeks the solace that only drugs can give her. Hunter struggles to understand Miki whi

I am perfectly flawed and I believe the best stories aren’t about perfect people. The best stories are about what happens when you back a flawed person into a corner.
I like to unravel a character until I get at the story he really wants to tell me. The story might leave us a little grimy in the telling, but we’ll find out just what he’ll risk everything for. We’ll find out whether he’s willing to ...more
