"Forty-Four is a breathtaking and heartbreaking paranormal mystery series that keeps readers on the edge of their seats every step of the way. The ending will haunt you forever." Abby Craig drowned in a frozen mountain lake last year. But after being dead for 44 minutes, she came back to life. However, it's not the life she used to know. She is now haunted by lost memories, haunted by the fact she can longer see colors, haunted by why the love of her life refuses to forgive her the one mistake she made long ago. Mostly, though, she is haunted by the dead. Because Abby Craig can now see ghosts. And they can see her. This box set contains the first five books in the epic 13-part Forty-Four series, which chronicles Abby's journey through the dark forest of her new life. Along the way she is plagued by troubled spirits, wrestles with matters of love and death, battles pure evil, and eventually faces the truth of what really happened at the bottom of that lake. With more than 2500 five-star reviews on Amazon and Goodreads collectively, the books in this collection have been downloaded by over half a million readers. I stumbled on this series on Kindle Unlimited. When I started it I had no idea there are 13 books in this set. The story is not complete till book 13. I got hooked and read them all in a week. Not everyone will like this series because the main character sees ghost. But if you like Koontz or King I think you will enjoy it. I really liked the main character Abby and her family and friends. The author also does a great job with the stories location and settings.

This was a "boxed" set (digital) of five books and I raced through them. Abby Craig is a great character and the story is original. Abby was dead for 44 minutes (hence the series title) after she fell into a lake. The story of how she came back to life is told throughout the first two books while Abby attempts to finish high school and figure out how she's going to handle adulthood. She can no longer see colors, and has no memory of the accident. Brain and body damage caused her to lose her soccer scholarship for college, but she fights her way back to health with help from her devoted sister, the ER doctor who saved her life, and a compassionate psychiatrist. And also help from Jesse, her only remaining friend.

Abby's biggest struggle is with her new ability to see ghosts. While this could be a riff off The Sixth Sense, Abby's story is very much her own. It's creepy in parts, but I'm a horror wimp, so it's actually pretty mild. Abby deals with the ghosts and their needs while attempting to solve the mystery of her own death and resurrection.

I like the story's location in Bend, Oregon, with its many outdoor activities. River rafting, hiking, and outdoor concerts add charm to the story and play a big role in Abby's life after death.

Teens and adults with both like these books. I'm definitely looking forward to the sixth one!

I actually only read book one... But "just book one" isn't one of the options on here for some reason. The "killer" is pretty predicable... The end, admittedly unexpected but made sense.
