Lyme disease has been called the fastest-growing epidemic of the 20th century, second only to AIDS. This authoritative and accessible guide combines information from experts with personal accounts of sufferers who've lived through this chronic illness and exposes misconceptions about its cause, treatment, and cure.
This was a eye opener. With being recently diagnosed with this disease I can't believe how far this disease, diagnosis and treatment has come but how far away they are actually are to curing, accepting and educating the peblic about this. Especially living in Tick infected part of the country. After reading this book, I am intrested in talking and trying some holistic approaches to treatment. I am not advocating non-traditional (if there is such thing) medicine and treatment but after reading and talking to people with the disease. Natural remedies and approaches are looking better and easier to understand why they work. Although this book did answer my questions, it just reiterates that common sense and if you are lucky to find a doctor that will listen and still take insurance you might have a chance.
The best word on the too-little-discussed-or-known about illness. The only problem I had was that the author constantly portrays this or that sufferer's story as being "melodramatic" or "unusually severe" and then we read exactly that for the whole of the book. Not very encouraging, but very matter of fact and unsentimental.
