You fear you won't make it through. We all do. We fear that the depression will never lift, the yelling will never stop, the pain will never leave. In the pits, surrounded by steep walls and aching reminders, we wonder: Will this gray sky ever brighten? This load ever lighten?

In" "this six-session small group Bible study, pastor and "New York Times"" "best-selling author, Max Lucado offers refreshing assurance. Max reminds participants God doesn't promise that getting through trials will be quick or painless. It wasn't for Joseph--tossed in a pit by his brothers, sold into slavery, wrongfully imprisoned, forgotten and dismissed. But his Old Testament story is in the Bible for this reason: to teach us to trust God to trump evil.

With the compassion of a pastor, the heart of a storyteller, and the joy of one who has seen what God can do, Max explores the story of Joseph and the truth of Genesis 50:20. What Satan intends for evil, God redeems for good.

The six sessions include:

Not gonna lie, I'm not a big bible reader nor very religious but this title jumped out at me in the midst of an extremely trying holiday season. Lucado is an iconic Christian writer so I knew what I was in for before I began listening.
Despite my lack of enthusiasm for Bible stories, Lucado does a fine job of relating the trials of biblical Joseph to modern life tests and tribulations. It forced me to think profoundly on some issues in my life and changed my perspective as well.
The only reason for the three stars is my inability to get over my distaste for"bible stories" although in the hands of an able writer, they still have an impact on the way one reacts to our challenging society.

I did not find that this was needed to have a good discussion on the book. Maybe a larger group would find it beneficial?

Very good and helpful book. I still refer to it from time to time. Would be great discussion piece for a prayer group/ book club.

This is a fantastic book to get you through some challenging times. It is still on my bedside table and I still read some passages that I highlighted to keep me motivated whenever the need arises.
