She loves him. He loves her. But sometimes love just isn't that easy...

Everything happens for a reason. I just wish I knew the why behind mine.

Five years ago, graduation wasn’t what it was supposed to be. Publicly humiliated, Melanie was more than happy to kiss off her high school sweetheart. But in doing so, she lost more than just her boyfriend, she lost the only other guy she truly cared for – his best friend, Shane.

Shane loathed the idea of returning to his small hometown. He just wanted to get in, help his best friend manage a legal matter, and get the hell back out again. But he wasn’t expecting to run into the one girl who got away, who always held a piece of his heart despite the animosity that lingered. Melanie could’ve been the one, but after everything that happened, trust was a serious issue.

She just wanted to do right by her son. He just wanted to do right by his best friend. And just when they thought they could find the strength to forgive the sins of the past, more secrets and lies bubble to the surface, threatening to push them irrevocably apart.

After four years, coming back to his small hometown was the last thing Shane Michaels wanted to do. It’s the kind of town where everybody knows everybody PLUS all their business. He moved away with his family during his senior year but kept in touch with his best friend, Brad. While we are on the subject of Brad. he is the reason Shane is back. Currently flexing his soon to be law muscles, Shane is on a mission to help his friend claim some assets left by his deceased grandmother.

First night back he runs in to a familiar face at a local bar named Sully’s Tavern and Grille. Mel Peterson. Mel dated his best friend in high school she also broke Brad’s heart senior year. It takes a minute but only a minute before you realize that Mel is not Shane’s favorite person. Bro’s before ho’s, right?

When Mel spots Shane not only is she shocked but her lust meter goes up Up UP! Just as gorgeous as she remembers him to be though she is thrown off by the switch in his hot to cold demeanor… and words.

‘It wasn’t his words that caused my forehead to crease, but the coldness in which he said them. So left field that my body came to a complete stop with his.

Shane holds Mel responsible for sending Brad off the deep end for something that happened four years ago. Hold a grudge much… Let’s just say it appears that Brad never recovered and you can understand why Shane is pissed from the tiny bits of info that starts to come out.

Mel never planned to stay in her hometown yet things happen and here she is, a single mother just trying to make ends meet. Then here comes Shane trying to knock her down a peg.

That damn whore tag was going to stick with me forever, and now this? The town gossipers would have a field day.'

The bullsh*t Shane is tossing her way is not going to change anything. After graduation Mel had to endure all the gossip, name calling and shame that came with being considered a town whore. So no, HOT or not she has zero time for Shane and his as*hole treatment. That is one thing I know readers will love about Mel, she’s strong and a protective mother bear when it comes to her cub.

As Shane attempts to collect what is owed to Brad he hits road block after road block because nothing is as it seems. The only thing consistent even though it drives him crazy is the attraction he has towards Mel. He wants her just as bad as he hates her for what she did in the past.

Moving beyond the past could easily be done, he’s just waiting on a reason to do it.

Thoughts
Frankly, I have no idea how either of these two was able to even see one another around the big pile of bullsh*t that stood between them.

 photo tumblr_m6i1epybWj1qcb58yo1_500_zps71b389e5.gif

There was so many untruths floating around and it seemed to take entirely too long for them to see the obvious. This led to a deep frustration within me; they began to piss me off around 30%. Slowly my interest started to dwindle after that and the characters only continued to make me angrier with their inability to speak up andTELL THE TRUTH.

On the flip-side I enjoy books where the hero and/or heroine have a love-hate relationship that feels like it can tip in either direction at any moment. Don’t know why, I just do ;) Another like for me is a strong heroine. I hate weak woman and Mel was not weak in the least.

My Rating and Why
I gave Waiting on my Reason 3.5 STARS because I failed to stay connected to the main characters. In short they frustrated me to no end for a good portion of the book and I cannot overlook that. Yes after a while I was pulled back in but by then the book was coming to a close. I also thought the story line was a little predictable.

Did I like the book? Yes!
Do I plan to read more by this author? Yes!

My Ratings
Characters- Likeable although Shane spent a lot of time making me mad
Writing Style- Good
Plot/Storyline- Guy returns to his home town and falls for his best friends ex, a woman he has despised for the way things ended with said best friend
Steam Factor- Medium/Moderately Steamy on a scale of 1-10 I say 6
Overall- I failed to stay connected thus 3.5 stars

"Everything did happen for a reason."

**FULL REVIEW NOW POSTED**

She loves him. He loves her. But sometimes love just isn't that easy…

When Shane Michaels returns to his home town to help out an old friend, he never expected to run into his old flame Melanie Peterson. The one he could never have, because she was dating his best friend Brad in high school . The one who also betrayed this best friend and who broke his heart. Shane still holds Mel responsible for sending Brad off the deep end ever since the moment they broke up.

What he doesn't know though, is that perhaps Mel never really was to blame for what happened with his friend and that the break up wasn't her fault either. Still, it's what he's always made to believe. So, when he runs into her, he doesn't exactly treat her kindly. But running into her also makes all his old feelings come back full force and they're becoming harder and harder to ignore.

"Even after all these years apart, my damn heart was incredibly sensitive when it came to Mel. I still wanted her, needed her."

Mel has always had a crush on Shane as well, but since Brad asked her out first, she's had to keep those feelings at bay. Seeing Shane again makes her remember her past feelings and despite his odd behavior, she can't deny the way he makes her feel. Still, her past has made her weary of trusting men and when it comes to priorities in life, her five year old son Jake will always come first.

"I really wanted him. For once, could life just throw me a bone and let me have some cake? I loved cake, I missed cake."

To be honest, I wasn't a big fan of the way Shane treated Mel at first. I know that Brad was his best friend for years, but still it seemed pretty obvious that Mel wasn't to blame in the whole situation and if he would have just opened his eyes a little further, he would have realized that a lot sooner. Admittedly, his behavior did undergo a complete 180 during the second half of the story, and he did make up for his slightly "jerkish" behavior. Mel, on the other hand, was a strong independent heroine, even though I felt like she should have cleared up her painful past with Brad a lot sooner to Shane. That way, a lot of miscommunication could have been avoided.

Overall, Waiting On My Reason was a quick, easy to read story with some funny, romantic scenes as well as some angsty ones. My only complaint was that the many lies and the miscommunication that existed between the two main characters made it hard for me to fully connect with them. Also, the story was quite short which is why the ending felt a bit rushed. Still, I enjoyed the author's writing style and I will surely read more books by her in the future.

If you're looking for a sweet, engaging standalone romance, this one's definitely worth giving a try!

Waiting On My Reason
was an engrossing and quick read. It was a second chance romance full of chemistry with danger and suspense that made for an exciting read! Once I sat down I breezed right through, rapidly clicking the pages to find out what would happen next.

Shane and Melanie had Brad in common through high school. Brad was Shane’s best friend and Melanie was Brad’s girlfriend. Shane planned on asking Melanie out back then but the day he was going to do it, Brad swooped in before him, and asked Mel himself. Shane had to endure watching his best friend and Mel together all the while wishing it was him in Brad’s place.

Mel loved Brad for a time, but gradually Shane crept into her heart. The attraction and pull between them was strong, but Mel knew she could never act on it. After Shane moved away, things between Brad degenerated with his constant drinking, and an unexpected series of events changed Mel’s plans for the future for good. Shane is back in town but his reasons stir up trouble and danger for Mel.

Much of this story is unwinding lies and truths between Shane and Mel when they finally cross paths again five years later. I wanted to shake Shane more than a few times and make him check his facts before hurling accusations! Mel was understandably ticked for Shane jumping to conclusions, but she prolonged some of these misunderstandings as well by refusing to explain. Just when I was starting to get really impatient these two finally started talking (thankfully!) and their long held back feelings came out in full force.

“Tell me what you want.” He leaned into me for a moment, his lips against my ear. “Say it’s me.”
That sent a shiver through my body, made my lower jaw actually twitch. I swallowed hard.
“Of course I want you.”

Shane and Mel had sizzling chemistry and their pent up desires from years of longing make for quite an explosion when they finally give in!

Throughout this story Mel runs into danger, and I just hoped nothing truly horrible would happen. My nerves were on edge several times!

Devon Ashley’s writing is captivating, and entertaining. However, I did feel the ending was a little rushed, and issues that came up earlier in the story were not fully addressed. I was pleased with the overall outcome, but I wished the future was a little more fleshed out, and an epilogue would’ve been welcome. With that all said, this story had me hooked from the first page, and I really enjoyed the ride!

ARC provided by Author for an honest review. Thank You Devon Ashley.

3.5-4 Stars

What I liked:
1. Shane, towards the last half of the book.
2. Jake
3. Mel's friends
4. Mel's & Shane's relationship once they get together.
5. Dual POV
6. Very fast paced the whole way through.
7. Shane & Jake's relationship

This story is a friends to lovers book with a cute kid thrown in to the mix. I really loved the dynamic of Shane's relationship with Jake. They were cute and funny together. Shane did a great job in taking on a new role in his life and I thought how he learned the ropes of being around a child, was handle very well.

Shane and Mel don't start off with their best foot forward. For awhile I didn't love Shane or his thoughts and accusations towards Mel. He was too quick to jump the gun before getting the nitty gritty truth. He was so blinded by his former friend, Brad, that he wasn't sure who's side to take... Brad's or Mel's.

I liked Mel a lot. She wasn't a weak heroine and knew what she wanted and couldn't deal with. She knew when to cut her loses. I felt like she had a good balance about her. We had no whiny, wishy-washy, crying jag chick. Not Mel. I loved the way she flowed off the pages of the book.

As for Mel and Shane's relationship... I actually liked how these two became so deeply involved once they are together. It helped that they were good friends back in high school and secretly had feelings for each other. Their relationship flowed well once they got passed certain issues and apologies were made.

This story was laced with accusations, lies, secrets, and betrayal. Shane was thrown smack dab in to the middle of it all, not knowing who was right or who was wrong. Eventually he figures it out, right before he's too late.

However, this book is also laced with some good steamy moments, a few laughs, great secondary cast of friends, sweet Shane moments, a few teary moments, and Shane's love, devotion and strength he eventually graces us with towards Mel & Jake.

This ended up being a quick read but pretty damn good. Besides that asshole Brad, I loved every character. I swooned over Shane.

Melanie is raising her son and managing a bar in her hometown. In walks Shane, a blast from her past. Back in high school Melanie dated Brad, Brad and Shane were best friends, and Shane and Mel became friends. Shit took a nosedive 5 years ago. Shane moved out of town, and Brad went off the deep end drinking and eventually ran off. She's been raising her son on her own. She also cared for Brads ailing grandmother, while he was too selfish.

Shane's in town to handle a legal matter for Brad and when he sees Mel he has conflicted emotions. He actually had longed for his best friends girl, but after she hurt and betrayed Brad, Shane turned his back on her. He thinks she's a cheating whore. But he still has lingering feelings. He treats her like crap, never giving her the benefit of the doubt. She knows that he has no clue what has transpired with Brad, if he did maybe he wouldn't be so mean.

As Shane is trying to help Brad, who is a strung out dick head, he's learning that maybe his best friend isn't the stand up guy he thought he was. Melanie isn't the whore/lying thief. They both learn how they were betrayed and manipulated by someone they once loved. They both learn Brad is a super dickhead asshole that doesn't deserve shit. At least that's how I thought :). Brad was such a prick, back in high school. His true colors towards Mel and Shane come out and I hated him more.

This wasn't a frustrating read because of lies and manipulations. The flow of the book was really good and once things start getting revealed Mel and Shane are able to say how they really feel and Shane is one hell of a sweet guy. No high angst and unnecessary garbage between them. Jake is one adorable little guy and a fun character in the story. The way Shane was with little man was adorable.

Shane was in love with Mel since the first time he saw her. But when his best friend Brad get to asked her first, he stood aside and became a friend. He fought for his feelings, and kept it bottled inside him since he didn’t want to hurt his best friend. Years later, everything has changed. He didn’t want to go back to his hometown but Brad asked for his help. What he didn’t expect was to run into Melanie – he also didn’t expect all those old familiar, strong emotions to surface. However, TRUST had become a serious issue between them. There’s that big fat elephant around the room, and he just can’t ignore it.

"You going to be able to get over her a second time? Because I don't think you ever got over her the first time, man."

Melanie’s life wasn’t supposed to end this way. She was publicly humiliated, the stigma was still attached to her name five years after graduation. She was just really happy to break it off with her high school sweetheart. But she didn’t just lost him, she lost someone she cared a lot as well, his best friend, Shane. Now he’s back, he’s throwing threats, and accusations to her face, and all she wanted to do was to protect her son, just as much he wanted to protect Brad. Her boy is really a sweetheart. She has her secrets, and she opted to shut her mouth and allow the tongues to swag without contradicting or affirming to anything.

He was loyal to a fault.
She was keeping secrets.

See the trouble here?

If Shane would just hear her side, and Mel would just tell him (and me) what happened back then, everything would have been sailing smoothly, they can kiss and make up, begin their lives together and cut my agony in half.

Instead, they all suffer (with me), as I continue to read, a little frustrated at the both of them for being hard-headed. Shane was nice to her, then would turn cold and angry the next minute once he realized why he was there for.

It was one big secret after the other, one lie on top of the other. I think the first surprise might have just made my jaws dropped, then here comes another bomb which is much stronger, and much more surprising than the first one. So I guess, after all the frustration and puffing I had in the first chapters, the wait was just worth it.

I received an ARC of Waiting On My Reason from the author (yay!), but that in no way holds any bearing to the following review.

I loved so much about this book!! Which was not surprising, Devon Ashley has been an author that constantly puts out books that I love. This one in particular was so fantastic to me, mainly for how well she portrayed the role of being a single mother, and the many worries and thoughts that can be worrisome for a person in that position. I spent the first 4 years of my daughter's life being a young single mother. I turned down a number of suitors for the very fears that Mel had in this book.
"You're right. I know you are. It's just hard to let someone in. I mean, this has been my life. My kid. My burden to carry. I don't know how to share that responsibility, even with someone who might be willing to take that on."- Mel from Waiting On My Reason. I spent the first few years in a relationship worrying about that very responsibility weighing too heavily on my significant other.

All around I felt just how relatable so many aspects of this book were. The close friend from childhood that as you grow into adulthood is virtually unrecognizable. I'm not sure if one adult can say they didn't have at least one friend that they can share that sentiment about! And how tragic is that?! It seems like such a cruel thing, but one that so many people share in common. And Shayne being so reluctant to let go of that relationship with Brad, I understood that completely. When you have so many great memories with someone, and they were such an important part of your life, it can be so hard to let that go, even when all the good that remains are just that, memories. I suffer greatly from the same reluctance.

There were so many different stories all rolled up into one awesome book, fading friendships, the unexpected turns in life, a single mother's struggle, the very real effects of prolonged substance abuse, letting the past go and moving forward, and another personal favorite....looking at all the hardships and unexpected struggles and instead of dwelling on the whys of it all, just accepting that life gets terrible and dark sometimes, but that just makes all the good things and bright days shine even brighter.

Basically if you are looking for an interesting story, with a few great twists and turns, along with some very lovely, well written characters coming to terms with life and moving forward, then Waiting On My Reason is a great book for you to pick up!

You can find this review on my blog: http://magic-world-of-books.blogspot....

When i read the description of this book i said to myself that i had to read this one ,cause it sounded so good, and of course, because this is not the first book written by Devon Ashley that i wanted to read. So,when i received the arc for the review i was very, very, very happy.

I started reading the book ASAP and i can admit that i liked it from the first page, even if there it wasn't much. But my point is that once i started reading it i couldn't stop. This is not the first time when something like this happens to me..So.

This book is about two people who from the beginning ,from the first day they met, lied about their feelings, but after a few years everything changes.

All Melanie wanted was to be left alone ,so she could take care of her son and forget about the past.About the lies and all the bad things.I liked her attitude and her way of letting Shane know that she wasn't interested. That was at fist, what's next is sooo much better.
Even if she had to work so much and spend less time with her son,all she wanted for him was the best and she tried to protect him every single day. That's what is important.
But everything turnes upside down when her ex's best friend comes back in town and confronts her about something.

Yikes!
I loved Shane, but i admit that i wanted to slap some sens in him.He was charming and interesting, but somehow he managed to let himself be tricked by a a drunk guy.And that's why i wanted to slap him..I guess. When i started to read from his point of view i was happy and i was glad that i could read what he was thinking when he was around Mel or what he thought about the situation Brad put him in.It was perfect.And..Yikes!
Both him ,and Mel where too stubborn and i liked that.It was fun how they acted when they were together, that until the point when they started to yell .My favorite moment? When Melanie told Shane the truth about why everyone hated her..and the reason why Shane thought bad about her.Double Yikes.

This wasn't just a simple story. This was about a single mother whose life wasn't simple at all.All she ever wanted was to raise her son and never think about the past. But the past doesn't disapear .Exactly when you don't expect,it comes back and makes you remember everything.

I received a review copy of this book from the author. And I devoured it.

Shane Matthews has returned to his small town in Texas to secure the inheritance for his childhood best friend, Brad Montgomery. Brad's had a bad run ever since Melanie busted his heart senior year. Booze and drugs have left Brad in a bad way--emotionally and financially. What Shane can't understand is why Brad's grandma didn't leave him his fortune...and who did get it!

Back on his home turf, Shane encounters Melanie--the girl who got away, and destroyed his friend. She's as good looking as ever, and clearly the interest is mutual, but Shane can't get past his fury over Melanie's role in Brad's downward spiral. He insults her--terribly.

Melanie's been considered the town tramp since senior year. Instead of escaping to Tulane for college, she's stuck out her life, working hard and harder to support herself, and her son. Brad's son. Not that people believe her story of an assault while on a college visit. Brad hadn't. Then again, Brad was a lush in high school, and Shane should have known that--if he was such a good friend. Melanie knows exactly what happened to Brad's "inheritance" but she's not willing to spill the beans to Shane--or Brad. Why should she have to? Brad's been gone for years, and hasn't looked back once. Not for Melanie, their son, or his grandmother. Now broke, he certainly doesn't deserve anything.

What we have here is a small-town, small-minds melodrama. It's real, and engaging and reads like 2/3 of Maury Povich episodes. Lots of accusations and false leads. Even more hurt feelings and complete misunderstandings.

The whole time I wanted shake Shane and tell him to take good hard look at Brad. See him for the miserable conniving wretch he was. The DBag didn't deserve gas money, let alone a dime of inheritance IMHO. When Shane does finally get the straight story, he's introduced a whole lot more problems for himself, and Melanie. But he's a stand-up guy and one with whom Melanie is overjoyed to reconnect. It seemed as though their love story was always waiting on the fringe, just out of reach in high school because of their own decency and friendship with Brad. In any case, the lovin' is quiet, but considerate. It's a satisfying read, for sure.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

Waiting on My Reason features a main character, Melanie, who is so inspirational, I just dare you not to love her. I was drawn into this intriguing story from the first page. The pacing in which the plot unfolds kept me turning the pages until the end.

What can I say about Melanie? She's amazing. The poor girl has been through hell and back, yet she keeps going. Her ex high school sweetheart had everything and threw it all away. While Melanie worked two jobs, he drank himself under the table. And then there's Shane. From the beginning it was obvious he thought he was doing the right thing. He believed his best friend, had no reason to doubt the verity of his claims. Though he fights with Melanie, thinks and says horrible things, it's impossible to dislike him. I was loudly cheering (in the privacy of my own home) for Melanie and Shane to work everything out. They belong together.

Melanie's ex/Shane's once best friend, Brad, is a real piece of work. He wallows in self-pity to the point that he destroys his life and Melanie's. He was an easy guy to despise. The only decent thing he ever did was bring Shane and Melanie together, even if that wasn't his intention. While the novel really focuses on Melanie and Shane, some of the secondary characters are fun. Most notable: Chelsie and Amber both have some great lines and provide some needed comic relief.

I thoroughly enjoyed Waiting on My Reason from start to finish. It's a new adult romance which I'm going to recommend to ages 18+ due to mature content. Part suspense, part drama, and all romance—Waiting on My Reason is the perfect weekend read.

The end of her high school life was not kind to Melanie, with horrible rumors and unexpected events everything seemed like it was turning against her. Now five years later her ex's best friend come into town causing all sorts of trouble and being up a past that is better off burried. With accuations all around can they seperate fact from fiction? And can the feelings they've always denied have any chance of become something that could've been a long time ago start now? With lies and the hunger for money from someone else from her past coming back to haunt her can Mel figure it all out and will Shane see the truth before it's too late?

Melaine is one tough cookie dealing with the lot life gave her and doing everything she can to make the best of it. She's a strong character and you want to be there right on her side throughout the story cheering her on. Shane is a pain in the ass, but he's a loyal one. When faced with the truth in the beginning he's to stubborn to realize it. Being so loyal to Brad he does everything he can to help him until he really sees the truth. Throughout the story you have times you just wanna slap him upside the head, but by the end he redeams himself and you end up loving him. The story was one drama from one chapter to the next but it keeps your eyes glued to each page guessing what will happen next.

The hallmark of any New Adult/Romance is miscommunication and assumptions. Waiting on My Reason has this in abundance. The last person Melanie expects to see in the bar where she works is Shane, her ex-boyfriend’s best friend and the guy she’s had a thing for since they met. While the first few minutes are promising, Shane’s reaction to her and his accusations begins a storm of secrets, lies and accusations.

Shane is back in town for one reason only: to help his best friend get the inheritance owed to him by his grandmother. What he gets is pieces of a story that don’t add up to what he’s been told. Shane eventually realizes Brad didn’t tell him the whole truth and Melanie refuses to tell him anything, she’s so angry about his assumptions.

Eventually, through little dribbles that keeps your attention, Shane and the reader learn the whole story. As a result, Shane and Mel rekindle those feelings and a feeling of satisfaction settles over you…until the other shoe drops and the tension ramps up.

I have to admit I was flipping pages quickly on this book as more secrets and revealed and the danger ramps up. And I enjoyed the twist at the end. Great writing and believable characters.

4 out of 5 stars

I received a copy of this novel for the purposes of an honest review.

i think this book deserves a 5 Star as the story is not the usual ones you read where the guy was perfect and he actually annoys me at first and this book have so many twist and turns i kinda like whoa but yea its quite enjoyable to read and i cannot actually put it down i ended up staying up tip 7am when I really have to sleep or i won't be able to be up for 12nn lol.. just so i can find out where the story was heading. it was not disappointing where it headed.. i feel something was lacking though but not too noticeable but i was somehow looking for it. it might be the passion i was so used to seeing from other books but then some people (in real life) doesn't always have that so in a way its understandable.

it mainly focuses on the lies, deceit and misunderstanding that was weaved by one person which affected the last few years of 2 people's lives. its heartbreaking, its annoying. You can sort of understand why this person did what he did from what he went through but its still wrong but goes to prove he's only human and quite weak actually where his actions causes all the drama and heartache of a few people.

In all, it was worth giving a chance to read.

I must say to start, I love Devon Ashley and her writing style. It is true talent to drop hints to the outcome but not really reveal the whole story until you get to the end. It is what keeps readers extremely engaged. So, back to "Waiting On My Reason", I loved the story! I absolutely loved that Melanie! She was so selfless, so focused on giving her child the best and safest world regardless of her personal sacrifice. It was amazing to read how much character Devon was able to build around the young son as well. It made me giggle to myself for sure.

Back to the rest of the story, the lies, the friendships, the sacrifice, the running from the small town and back again, to find the missing part of yourself. I completely related! Please do not pass up an opportunity to see a single mothers struggles and accomplishments through this story!
It is amazing!

After reading the synopsis of this book I couldn't wait to read it. I really liked Melanie from page one. It took a little while longer for me to start liking Shane, he really ticked me off in the beginning. But he thought he was doing right by his best friend, Brad. Brad was Melanie's ex high-school boyfriend. Brad was also a douche. I loathed him. I was anxious to find out what Melanie did back in high school to have everyone turn against her. The author wrote the story in a way that I couldn't put the book down. I always needed to know what was going to happen next. There was plenty of action mixed in with the love story. I ended up loving Shane by the end of the story. This book is a must read and I'm looking forward to reading more in the future from Devon Ashley.

Weel... For me, it did not worked right. Sorry.
I didn't like the male main character. In the first half of the book, this man has really made my will almost disappear; he seemed to be BIPOLAR. He judge the female character so easy. One minute, he was melting about how much he loves her, and have been in love all life. Five minutes later, she was the biggest slut on earth, a woman with no mercy, no good intentions, no dignity. Than, she was the lovely one again, because he discovered that someone lied about her... But then, one new piece of news, and she was everything of the worst in Earth again. But then again, he discovered things wasn't exactly the way he thought it was... and she was lovely all over again. :-/
I felt no empathy for any of the characters, either the narrative. :-(

I was given a ARC from the author for a honest review.
I have to say that I love love love Devon Ashley's writing style. I always feel like I am in her stories. I can feel and see it all happening. I read as fast as I can because I can't wait to finish and see what is going to happen and after I am finished reading...I mourn because it's over. I love her writing for all of the above as well as her happily ever after tied in a bow endings. Now this book has it all. A little mystery, a crazy love triangle and the lovely end Devon doesn't disappoint in this book. It's simply wonderful!!!!!!!

**Received an ARC from the author for an honest review** This story was definitely a twist of fate throwing you a curve ball. Definitely a tough ride for the main characters. A different & twisted love triangle.

Okay

This book was pretty good, good storyline, great characters but I absolutely hated the ending. I felt as though I was left hanging, like what happens with Shane and Mel? So that's why I could only give it three stars.

This was a nice easy read. Some of the plot to me was a little off for me. It seemed that the relationship between the two main characters was rushed I understand that they knew each other very well before he moved. It just seemed one minute they were at a pass and the next he was moving in and taking care of her. Other than just few issues I really did enjoy it.

The book was alright but I just couldn't connect with the characters. It's like the characters are robots going through the motions of a good sad story but they don't know their parts. The story was good but the delivery left something to be desired.

Very predictable and am I the only person nauseated by the use of “gawd”?!? I cringed every time it was used so, yes, I cringed a lot. I ended up skimming to the end of this one...

*ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

"Everything happens for a reason. I just wish I knew the why behind mine."

I am a huge fan of second chances, more so when the MC's come together again after time apart.
Also, I may one of the few, but I love when kids are involved, I don't mind it at all.

"She just wanted to do right by her son. He just wanted to do right by his best friend."

Shane is back in town, and the only reason for this is because of a favor for his friend. Mel never left, things for her veered off course a few years ago and is just trying to make it with her son.
Okay, so as far as reunions go, things could have gone better between the two. I was so excited while reading, I mean, they're finally meeting again! BAM things don't go so well.
There are secrets, lies, miscommunications, and false accusations standing between the two.
What happens when you can't or won't avoid each other?

"Silence ensued as we gazed into each other's eyes again. Was it just me or had we both avoided doing this most of our friendship?"

What we do know right away is that Mel & Shane do care about each other, those feelings are clear, but how can they move forward when all of this is happening?
What I liked is that we didn't have to wait long for things to get cleared up...well, it was clear to us, but not so much for them
At some point things got a bit slow? Much was happening, but Shane was just not getting it.

This brings us to my main problem, Shane. He was a jerk, plain and simple. I sort of got where he was coming from at the beginning, but things got insane as the story progressed. I'm not gonna lie but, I was worried he wouldn't be able to win me over. He did, but he was a bit late.
I mean, he is suppose to be this lawyer, and he was clueless. He didn't know how to read people at all. Dude, don't you know that you never come between a mother and her child? Yeah, he's your best friend, but you supposedly love this girl. Get it together!

Mel, I really admired her as a character. She has been through so much, but stayed strong for her and her kiddo. I love that she didn't let her feelings toward Shane get in the way of that. She did what she had to do and I loved that.

I enjoyed it and wish there could have been more!

-Thank you, Devon!-

3.5 Waiting Stars

She loves him. He loves her. But sometimes love just isn't that easy...

Everything happens for a reason. I just wish I knew the why behind mine.

I liked this story, it was a quick romance read with a little bit of angst added to it. I did not fair to well on the whole miscommunication with the main characters. I would have liked to have seen them communicate more and I think if they had the story would of flowed better for me.

I loved Melanie, her being a single parent and always putting her son first made me like her even more. It is not easy to be a single parent and she does what she needs to do to make sure that her son has what he needs.

"Even after all these years apart, my damn heart was incredibly sensitive when it came to Mel. I still wanted her, needed her."

Shane, although I liked him. I wish when they had first run into each other that the communication had been there. I think if it had things would have been better for them both in the beginning. I also think if they had communicated better Shane would have treated her so much better in the beginning. I mean after all he always did like her, but took the sidelines because his Best friend Brad had asked her out first.

“Tell me what you want.” He leaned into me for a moment, his lips against my ear. “Say it’s me.”
That sent a shiver through my body, made my lower jaw actually twitch. I swallowed hard.
“Of course I want you.”

They definitely had chemistry there is no doubt about that.

If you looking for a quick fun, romance with some lies, and angst scenes mixed in then you will enjoy this story.

Before I started Waiting On My Reason I received an email from Devon Ashley about the character of Shane, who has been the subject of much criticism, which said,

“I hope you don’t mind a guy that actually has character flaws to overcome . . .”

And boy does he ever?! Yet instead of criticising Shane for the way he ploughs through town, completely mishandling the situation, I only found his traits human and very male. I know many men who will choose to believe their best friends over their partners, and it was a contentious issue for my now husband and I before we were engaged. Groups of male friends have the “’bros before ‘hos” code and this is hard for them to break; in the story the reader witnesses Shane’s pain when he finally realises Brad’s deceit. Shane finally learns to be in a mutually beneficial relationship, in which he must prove that Mel and Jake are his priority.
Mel is a passionate woman, who is prepared to sacrifice herself for her child; a feeling all mothers can identify with, and because of her continuous unselfish attitude the reader sees her HEA as well-deserved.
For me this novel was just another reason (no pun intended!) to fall in love with Devon Ashley’s writing; she proves that she will not be placed into a neat little box and will break the rules! I love it!

The emotional whiplash was too much for me I just wanted them to get there shit together. This was the first hero I ever seen that is so naïve to believe a friend when you know that he's just a drunk. Now knowing how Brad manipulated both of them it's really sad.
